Found an old picture in the loft among my Hibs memorabilia taken from the West of the front of the old East. Not that old, but anyone know anyone in it? The flag was a fixture for a number of seasons.

I miss the old old East, with its high sweeping terracing, exposure to all weather and cracking views of the game.

When I started going in the late sixties I used to stand at the top part of the East but there were no flags flying half way up.

While we got a good price for the new stand and it converted Easter road into a truly modern stadium which we'll benefit for years to come, I'd gladly swap back to the old East.

And we've been terrible ever since it came down. Yogi's dismal run almost coincided directly with the stand being shut. Possibly why I've never truly bonded with the new stand as we've had no real 'good times' in it.

I've no idea. I would assume some time in the early 1950's. I think it's a game against St Mirren. I don't remember the flags either.

No, I tell lie. It's a match between an Edinburgh Select XI and Newcastle United in August 1955.

My great grandfather would be in this picture but he was carrying out a boycott at the time, sitting at home sending pigeons to his mates lambasting the 19th century Daniel Handling, William Craig and Jebediah Cummings for the p!sh performances he was pretty sure they were having.

I think it is. :agree:

And yes, I do remember the shop, and Ronnie himself - an absolute gentleman.

IIRC that was one of the first places in Edinburgh if not Scotland where you could get just about any replica shirt in any size?

We had friends in Orkney whose wee boy was daft about Clough's Nottingham Forest and his dad couldn't get him a strip anywhere. I asked Ronnie; he didn't have the right size but ordered it and got it for the wee guy, AND posted it off to him, within the week.

A really genuine guy.
