Been off sick for 3 days so been in bed watching movies created from books. What's yer favourite?? There are hundreds if not thousands of movies that DONT do justice to the book. Let's have some that are just as good, if not better than the book.

Here's a few I've watched, and read....

Into The Wild
One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Shining

Shawshank Redemption - based on a short story and turned into an absolute cinematic masterpiece! :agree:

Remember... The only rule is you must have READ THE BOOK!! Not just watched the movie and assumed the book is good too!! :rules:

What, based on the above, suggests I haven't read the shorty story?!

Stephen King's Different Seasons if you want the reference.

Though I preferred the books, The Beach and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas are pretty good films too.

Virginie Ledoyen in The Beach :love ya!:

The Godfather, good book, great films.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I didn't really like the book, enjoyed the film though.

The Bible, tedious....but not nearly as tedious as Noah with Russell Crowe (ok, hands up....I've only read excerpts of the Bible )

Wise Guys - the book was better but it didn't have Joe Pecsi's famous scene in it.
The Midnight Special book was far superior to the movie. Don't know why they changed the ending for the film. It was crap.

I'm not sure if I think it's better, but Trainspotting must be close

Would agree.

Very different but both excellent in their own right

LOTR I think is a super adaptation from the book, although I still think a place should have been found somewhere for Tom Bombadil ...

Really enjoyed "The House of Spirits" adaptation of Allende's book ...

Preferred the Connery/Caine version of "The Man Who Would Be King" to Rudyard Kipling's story...

Thought "It" the movie was a decent take on Stephen King's book ...

To Kill A Mockingbird.

The only book I read and enjoyed whilst at school. Classic book and brilliant film, probably a life changer really. Gregory Peck is just so cool.

Jaws.

The book would have to come with an audio facility that played the "mernup, murnup, mernup" etc, in the appropriate places. :)

Liked both the book and movie of 'American Psycho'. Yon Bret Easton Ellis is some lad!

:Agree: probably the most recognisable piece of film music ever.

Fight Club. Not sure I'm allowed to talk about this, though.

There have been 2 movie adaptions, the old black and white one with Peter Cushing , and the newer version with John Hurt

... thought "Contact" (Jodie Foster) was a decent take on Carl Sagan's brilliant book and I quite enjoyed Wolfgang Petersen's filming of Sebastian Jünger's "The Perfect Storm", which is a great read too ...
