The Rangers indirect free kick last Friday was terrible, totally bereft of ideas. It was like something from the Butcher era only worse. I dont think there was even a sniff of danger.

It is actually worse than I remembered. What was the plan!!!!!

I love how 4 of our players charge it down by chucking themselves towards the ball in a tangle of arms and legs. No way that was getting past them

Most teams would prefer a free kicik just outside the box. Hardly anybody ever scores from indirect free kicks inside the box.

Only Hibs one I recall was in August 1997 when a clever pass from Charnley, I think, let Paul Tosh score from an acute angle against Dundee Utd at Tannadice.

Sauzee scored one at the Dunbar end against St mirren while the west stand was being built in 2001

Mmmmn, could be wrong but thought it was the pole dancer Tam McManus but it was a very clever free kick.

I thought we also scored one in a pre-season friendly against Blackburn Rovers. I seem to remember us winning 3-0.

Indirect free kicks inside the box rarely occur, I've seen quite a few of them scored though.

While they are not nailed-on goals, or as good chances as penalties - I disagree that most teams would prefer the free kick from outside the box. I think an indirect free kick from a few yards out would nearly ALWAYS be the preferred option. Though teams tend to show more imagination/authority/composure than our blue friends did the other week:greengrin

was never a passback anyway.. https://vine.co/v/OxwbEUxP0WIWhy was the free kick taken from there?
Shouldn't it be taken from where the pass back occurred - which was outside the box?
Or does the offence occur where the keeper catches the ball?

Its a really difficult thing to pull off as you have limited time and numerous players in front of you (usually charging down the ball).

In saying that, its still a situation where you can possibly get a goal - what Rangers were trying taking an extra touch with the ball Ill never know?

Yeah its as soon as Oxley picked up the ball. It obviously wasnt a foul, but if it had been it was in the correct spot.

If it was me I'd just ****ing skelp it as hard as I could. Its unlikely to go in without hitting a defender or the keeper and certainly more chance than attempting two passes like the rangers tried on Friday.

Should have faked to smash it but square it inside to someone on the edge of the box. Would have taken out all those in the wall and in that area and opened up the goal more imo.

You knew boyd was just going to smash it could just tell he was desperate to score.

That one from the purple team wouldn't/shouldn't be allowed as the ball has to travel it's own circumference before a second player touches it.

How about the Zaliukas shot at goal? Some people moan about shots that almost hit the corner flag. His almost hit the dug-outs.

That passback decision was even worse than I thought it was at the time when I was at the match. And I thought it was wrong even then!

Awful decision to give that as a passback.

Also love how un-interested the hun players in the box look, like they knew it would come to nothing!

IIRC John Collins scored one against Dunfermline by chipping the ball into the top corner of the net. Class!!
