For a few years I've been tracking Scottish attendances at all the League teams.
If you look at overall attendances per season, crowds are indeed down, but if you analyse averages per team(total) per season its clear to see who is suffering:

Average for all teams Minus Old Firm
98-99 233,264 124,982
99-00 222,876 120,882
00-01 225,867 118,965
01-02 229,327 122,845
02-03 225,049 118,621
03-04 220,259 113,613
04-05 225,273 118,454
05-06 232,152 124,704
06-07 231,655 123,772
07-08 233,288 121,589
08-09 225,028 117,823
09-10 203,344 110,198
10-11 201,355 107,016
11-12 200,029 102,801
12-13 201,402 109,810
13-14 201,183 111,447
14-15 191,651 116,333

So although total crowds since 02-03 are down over 33k, non Old Firm teams have barely seen a decline, and since the Huns wet south have increased
by 13,500

Good stats. Doncaster's a complete, total and utter ****.

All crowds are down by 41,613 ( bit more than the 33,000) Exclude the OF and the crowds are down 8,649, still down but by a lot less.

Is that 41 613 over the the whole season or on a weekly basis?

Are you making allowances for teams that have been blatantly lying about their gates to try and enforce the image of being a big team?

Although the trend is downwards it also looks cyclical and noticeably since le credit crunch as per general spending.

But good rebound in last season.

I think if you look at hibs since mid 70s we vary between around 9,000 and 11,000 which is probably pretty much where we are now.

But these figures will be the clubs published attendance figures which, for some clubs are completely meaningless.

Celtic regularly print attendance figures of 45,000 when they have shut the whole top tier of the stadium.

Yams publish 16,000 crowds with their visitors stand all but empty.

The only time you get accurate figures with certain clubs is cup-ties when the visitors get a share of the gate. Even then ,there is one club that might require some serious checking. :greengrin

Tickets sold is the key metric...not those that actually attended hence why Celtic etc will have higher attendance figures compared to their actual attendance (if ya get my drift)

Hibs publish the attendance as those who actually attend. I'm a season ticket holder, but if I miss the game I'm not included in the attendance.

Pretty simple really.

Interesting. Our gates have actually held up well given how gash we have been.

You are right loss of Rangers has not hindered anyone bar Celtic. Shame they both could not piss off and we would have a really competitive league with6 or 8 teams all capable of glory......

The bottom line is and always has been there aren't enough people in Scotland to " properly" support 42 pro clubs .
It's all down to " getting bums on seats "
Remember having a great chat with Alex Miller, Willie Ormond and Bob Crampsey and it was agreed there were too many clubs in Scotland
Two leagues of 16 plus a " Conference" type league below would suffice

12/10/10/10 is boring - potential to play eachother six times a season
