I've never known such evil.
What's the point in civilised society if we aren't pulling out all the stops to crush these people?
The entire world needs to unite to stop this and I don't mean websites or air strikes.

I'm not normally one for getting too emotive about news stories but I actually found it hard to read about this.
I cannot imagine what this poor man must have went through.

What is even more galling is the fact that the so called Jihadi John was born and raised in the UK.
Unfortunately, Islam don't hold the monopoly on barbarism. We as a nation sat back and watched recent atrocities in Rwanda, Bosnia, Darfur/Sudan, Syria, Tamil, Cheznia - the list goes on. The West and/or the UN could have saved millions of lives but simply refused to help the innocent.
For me, the beheading/burning of a few individuals is fairly insignificant - it's just that ISIS are mighty good at PR and spreading fear.

True, Rwanda was the worst genocide in human history yet most people are unaware it even happened. IS are just a more organised and professional version of every other group that pre dates them.

Unfortunately there is no easy way to stop this kind of terrorism.
You can't operate a air or ground troops offensive against a hidden and frequently moving enemy.
I don't know what the answer is but I fear that this is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets any better. RIP the Air Force pilot and all others affected.

I've just seen parts of the video and, if it's genuine (and I have no doubt that it is), it's without doubt the most horrific thing I've ever seen.
I can't begin to imagine the pain that man must have experienced during the final moments of his life.
To call this act "evil" just doesn't do it justice.
Islamic State really are the Nazis of the 21st century and they must be eliminated by any means necessary. Although I fear that they've already advanced well beyond the stage where they can be easily stopped.
My thoughts are with the family of this man and also the families of the two Japanese men who were beheaded in the last few days.

Correct. Our wonderful leaders choose when to be outraged at "certain" atrocities yet don't bat an eyelid at others you mention. It's sickening.

Think you'll find that the worst genocide was carried out here in Europe. But I still get your point.

I had a long and very interesting discussion with a colleague who lives in Lithuania last week.
The unreported stuff he was telling me about the Russia/Ukraine situation and Russian political situation in general was alarming. I went to bed that evening a worried man about where that might end up.
The world is very unstable right now.

Statistics from Chairman Mao era China or Leopold era Congo may show otherwise. The Rwandan Genocide isn't limited to the happenings of 20 years ago, 40 years previous had a similar 'cleansing ' by the Hutus.

In terms of numbers you're correct, but for shear brutality the Rwandan genocide was unparalleled. An estimated one million people murdered in around 3 months with mainly knives and clubs, women raped leading to a huge rise in HIV and babies born to raped mothers.

...and around 10% of those killed were moderate Hutus! The numbers and facts involved almost seem unbelievable and it's really sad that so many people don't realise that this happened.
I hope nobody takes this the wrong way but to a lot of people this was (and probably still is) just one lot of Africans killing another lot of Africans during a war that won't effect them in a country that nobody cares about.

Their exploits have no place in any religion and no holy book will instruct any such act that doesn't contain ten times the amount of contradictory text.
Raping, beheading, abusing, murdering and enslaving groups of people? This is hedonism.
It's terrorism by Twitter and as you say, they are experts who know how to get their message across.

:agree:
Make no mistake, extremist Islam is fascism in its purest form.

Pol pots Cambodia 1.8 million died as a result of his regime . the worst thing is no one knows if the figures are accurate.

Re God is great: it is still a sight that stays in my mind, driving through Apapa in Lagos a few years ago and a sign on a wall read, Jesus is Good, God is Great, anyone caught sh***** here will be fined 5,000 Naira. Thought it was brilliant!

Like others have said, world governments didn't make this sort of fuss when 1 million people were slaughtered with machetes in Rwanda, or Chechnya, or Darfur, or anywhere else for that matter.
Only here and now where Isis are a threat to potentially anyone, and they are making a big song and dance over it are they actually doing something about it.
What they are doing is barbaric but it is the publicity that they are getting that is fuelling it all. The first thing news channels need to do is to stop showing the clips they have lifted from propaganda videos on national TV.

One difference between islamic state and the nazis is that the nazis at least had a bit of shame and tried to conceal their crimes from the German people at large and the wider world. This lot are not only proud of what they are doing, they coolly put together slick HD videos and seek the widest possible audience for them.
