I have been offered a promotion at work and have been giving a new contract to sign as a result. I have also been giving another piece of paper that stands alone from the contract that says its for a probationary period of 3 months.
Does this mean after the 3 months they can get rid of me?
Is this the done thing I'm a bit clueless when it comes to contracts and the like any help or opinions would be apperciated

A probationary period is standard on contracts.

You should have a fall back to you old job visit citizen advice and show them contracts before you sign anything

Doesn't sound right...I have a friend who is an employment lawyer.....PM me if you want some advice and I'll give you his contact details...

Ask for it to be removed . Tell them that even though you really want the position , you couldn't possibly consider a temporary 3 month contract.
I've had the probationary period removed twice over the years.
Depends on how much they want you I suppose.

I've never had to sign a new contract for an internal promotion. Personally, I'd be wary.

Should be continuous employment so get it removed. If not continuous then they can dismiss you anytime in next 12 months never mind next 3.

I have - just did in December, but there was no mention of a probationary period in it.
