He's certainly younger than Steven Fletcher was. He was a month short of his 21st birthday when he scored his hat-trick against Gretna in 2008.

Derek Riordan had just turned 22 when he scored a hat-trick against Kilmarnock in 2005.

Colin Nish was 29 when he scored three times against Motherwell in 2010.

Leigh Griffiths was 22 when he scored a hat-trick against Kilmarnock in 2013.

I would interested to know when someone younger than Jason Cummings last scored a hat-trick for Hibs. It must have been a while ago.

Miller never scored a hat-trick for Hibs.

I have no records for Durie or O'Rourke.

He was 19 yr and 65 days when he scored that hattrick. JC was 19 yr and 132 days today but has scored 14 in 29 games. Durie scored 22 in 56 games.

Imagining scoring a first half hat-trick and still not being on the winning side. Absolutely sickening

Joe Harper complained about the same thing in the dressing room after a cup final and Sloop clocked him one (apparently). Poor Joe :-)

According to Edinburgh Reporter, apart from JC yesterday, only Gordon Durie, Peter Cormack( league cup) Joe Baker and Lawrie Reilly have scored competitive hat tricks as a teenager.
Joe actually scored 11 hat tricks before he reached the age of 20. Lawrie got two.

Here's the list of all Hibs hattricks, would need to click on each player for D.O.B.s and work out which were teenagers, unless there's an easier way somewhere!

http://www.fitbastats.com/hibs/player_hattricks.php

Gordon Smith is definitely the youngest as only two younger players have scored even one, not sure how the Edinburgh Reporter missed that one!-

Thanks for this, I was going to post re the Yams cup game. To put things into perspective Yams won league that season by 10 points when it was 2 points for a win & only conceded 11 home league goals all season. The 17 year old Joe scored 4 in 90 mins at the PBS! Unbelievable!

The list is from the end of the war. Gordon Smiths hat trick was before that I think.
Colin Stein almost made the list but he had just turned 20 when he got his first.

My goodness, those stats bring back some happy memories. Amazing that it's over 41 years since anyone scored 4 or more goals. Neil Martin's stats are excellent, 4 x4 goals in a match is some going. I also didn't realise that our first hat trick after Joe Baker's departure was scored by his brother Gerry, that's nice!

Reilly scored 6 goals one week in 1952 and the next season but same year scored 7 in a week including 3 against Hearts which I saw.

Wonder who's the oldest player to score a hat trick in a game?

On the information currently available, I reckon it's Jimmy McColl who scored a hat trick at 38 against hamilton in the scottish in 1931.

Bobby Combe scored a 4 in a game against the team formerly known as Rangers in 1941 when he was 17, he'd scored 4 against Albion Rovers the previous month.

I've never really understood why the second world war football is considered unofficial. Certainly isn't in my records :)

Here's first stab at the list from 1940:

https://twitter.com/ihibs/status/554613261585629184

I'm short of a couple of post war birthdays, and I have less information pre war birthdays.

I don't think any of the missing ones post war would affect the list, and I reckon Tommy McIntyre scored a hat trick in 1937 aged 17 or 18. I'll go through the full list at some point.

Yes in the Scottish cup tie which was sandwiched between the two Barcelona games in the Fairs Cup.
Hibs won 15-1.
Coincidentally his brother Gerry scored 10 in a Scottish Cup tie for St Mirren against a university team the year before.

Sure did! He also scored in 10 consecutive games at end of 1959, 20 goals in total! Hibs scored 51 goals in those games including beating Airdrie 11-1 & Partick 10-2, both away, as well as Dunfermline (IIRC)
7-4 at home! Those really were the days for entertainment!

Wow incredible stats. What a player Joe was?

Can remember ages ago reading a book about Denis Law about the time they were both together at Torino?
What a partnership that would have been. Can vaguely remember they had quite a bad car accident when there and also that Law fell out with the club and left the country without telling his mate Joe. Cheers mate. :greengrin

A few links about this period.

Noticed he scored 4 in the league cup on a Wednesday, and another 4 in the league on the Saturday - not a bad week's work!
