In a hammer blow to all fans of summarisers who state the bleedin' obvious, Andy has been given the red card by ITV.

Great news!

Michael Owen next and we've got rid of a high percentage of the "he kicked the ball and it went in" commentary school.

Superb news !!

Just need the BBC to follow suit with Mark Lawrenson - another annoying-prat of the lowest-order !!

Best news since BBC took Lawro off prime time duties.

Thank **** for that. He offers nothing but cliches & stating the obvious. Hopefully he heads stateside never to bore the tits off us again👋

Tyldesley is even worse IMO, until ITV drop him their coverage will remain hopeless.

Won't miss Townsend one iota, but will miss Dan Sarf's excellent critiquing of him during matches. :boo hoo:

Townsend was awful, but I think Owen offers decent insight.

Good riddance. Townsend not only found the most inane way to state the obvious, but managed to say it thirty seconds after it had happened.

This. Awful. Adds nothing to even the best games

I think he just tells you what's happened. I prefer to hear about why it's happened. Danny Murphy's good for that.

Delighted by this news. Long overdue. Simplistic, one dimensional infuriating rubbish EVERY SINGLE GAME.

Barely managed passable English half the time.

I hope that Jimmy Bullard is not the next one in waiting?

Why?

I agree that I'd rather hear why something happened also. I think Owen offers interesting insights, he quite often talks about the mentality of players in certain scenarios and such like, as well as some stories about his experiences with different clubs and managers - he's definitely more to offer than the likes of Townsend.

Nothing irks me more than a co-commentator who simply describes what has happened in an incident, but I don't think that Owen is like that. I am aware that not many seem to like him though.

Now all we need is for Sky to drop Gerry Armstrong

He's loves Ronseal. Because it does exactly what it says on the tin. He's as enigmatic as a pair of tits. Tyldesly next.

I like Lawro as a co-commentator - he is good at filling in on things that the TV pictures aren't necessarily telling you, such as team shape, how a substitution has affected tactics, and observations on players who aren't on the ball. He is a pretty lazy pundit though - often appears bored!

With BT's increased football coverage next season, let's just hope they don't pick up Townsend. Has to be the WORST commentator/co-commentator of any sport that's ever been televised.

Love the parody account on Twitter though!
