Hi everyone,

The lads will be back on tonight to discuss the weekend's derby. A mixed panel of Hibees and Jambos will chat about the game and any resulting positives for both teams. Thought I would make one thread and update it weekly, unless there is a specific guest or special topic. The show is doing great, was the 50th most popular podcast on iTunes at one point last week :greengrin but as always, the more Hibee contributions the better.

Tune into http://www.radiosaltire.org at 10pm tonight, and the show will be available for download later on the week.
Cheers!:flag:

Funny that ;). Nice one guys its a pretty good show considering its volunteers glad it's picking up an audience there was me thinking it would be on a break tonight so that's a bit of a result!
Well done to all and keep up the entertaining stuff good to get a bit of a glimpse of players thoughts past and present quite an impressive array of guests this far good to see its being supported by the footballers by giving something back - hope Mikey paid for the afternoon teas at the effing Balmoral ;)

That's right - he was allowed to play whilst Gomis and Bawheid were kicking lumps out him. Some Jambos never tire of making dicks of themselves.

This has been a problem from day one- myself and Mikey do our best to get along to the studio as often as possible but for work reasons can't always make it. Sam and Scott do their best to be objective, and have even been attending games at ER when fixtures allow, but as Hearts season ticket holders a certain amount of bias is always going to seep through. Unfortunately it's been a struggle to get more Hibees involved, even on weeks where guests like Keith Wright have been on. I always say it on here but if anyone fancies it, please get in touch!

I should be on again next week to balance things out a bit and to add to my fanclub on Kickback .

I don't mean to be too negative. Still worth a listen. And I think that it is a good thing to have something like this rather than only YABOO GIRUY etc.

To be fair to them as well, there is a solid 30 minutes focused solely on Hibs on this week's show. They may have started off with the Hearts analysis, but overall I'd say the coverage was evenly distributed, with plenty of compliments for the Hibees.

Things have been largely civilised so far- maybe that will change when the panel is more balanced and when we win the next derby! :greengrin

Totally agree, the Hearts guys sound about as fair and reasonable as is possible for those educated with fermented industrial football. Certainly, the challenge is there for budding Hibs journalists within the support to get involved.
I like the freeflowing banter that doesn't seem totally scripted. Eg. Talking about being over time etc. The Mick Stewart interview was hilarious because he showed himself up, with his try hard bad language, to be an imposter at that as well as his eventual football career which can only be described as average.
Good luck to the radio station and hopefully a few more Hibs minded guests can set the agenda.

Next weeks guest is Tam McManus- any questions, fire away in this thread.

Anybody know if there's a way I can change the thread title to reflect weekly guests or subjects? Rather than starting two new threads a week.

Tam - is your volley at Ibrox the greatest goal of all-time? See said goal here: http://youtu.be/egKPu90S2SU

On a more serious note - you had a very decent career and scored some really memorable goals for Hibs, not least those at Ibrox, Parkhead and Tynecastle. However, many Hibs fans feel that you never quite lived up to the massive potential you clearly had as a young player coming into the team. Why do you think that is? Do you feel you had more to give for the club when the Mowbray era brought an end to your time at Hibs?

Have really enjoyed all the shows.
well done for making concept work, show that focuses entirely on Edinburgh area football.
sure it's a wee bit too maroon for my liking in parts but guys clearly trying to be balanced.
i listen to 4 footy podcasts and this is great new addition.

Questions for Tam.
when you were 18 how did you expect your career to pan out? Did you do better or worse than you anticipated?
what were your biggest highs and lowest lows?
who were/ are your football heroes?
do you watch games now?
Do players care as much about teams they claim to support as most fans?

The show is very good although the awards last week amazed me with the choice of 'signing of the year' how could it not be gray or Allan!! I will even admit THAT goal at ER was goal of the year between hibs and hearts but signing of the year Gomis?!?

Think the main reason for that was because the Hibs votes were more or less split 50/50 between Gray and Allan. Not a bad thing to have more than one standout signing :greengrin

I downloaded the show again and a good listen. Connor (Fenriz?) the Hibs guy gave a good analysis I thought. Hopefully the panel can be balanced out in future weeks, 3v1 last week, it's the only thing that let's the show down.

BTW also downloaded the old episode with Keith Wright and it's a cracking listen, excellent interview. Will be downloading every week now, keep up the good work.

It was a good listen and it's admirable that the Hearts-supporting presenter makes such a well-meaning effort to be neutral.

My only comments would be that, and this might just be narrow-minded fan paranoia, I can't help but feel the Hibs sections on the show are presented from a negative viewpoint in comparison to those discussing Hearts. ie the questions put to the Hibs representatives tend to be along the lines of 'don't you think the small squad is going to be a problem?', or 'don't you think Hibs' attacking style of play is going to be found out when they play a decent team?', or 'well you won 5-0 but is that basically because Cowdenbeath are crap?'. I'm not saying these are necessarily bad or even inaccurate suggestions, I'm just comparing it to the way that Hearts, say for example their big wins earlier in the season, tend to be represented on the show.

I stress that the podcast is one of the most balanced out there, and we can't complain too much as 1 - Hearts have actually been much the better team this season (except against us), and 2 - there appears to be a lack of Hibs fans volunteering to take part and stick up for the team so there is always likely to be a pro-Hearts bias on the panel.

CallumLaidlaw
23-01-2015, 11:23 AM
My only issue is also the balance of the show. The hearts fans get to bounce off each other. Much harder for the lone Hibby.
Ive enjoyed the last couple of shows tho, and the McManus interview was a great listen. Friday night is my FIFA and podcast night, so will catch up with this weeks show this evening. Keep up the good work

Myself and Connor were both back on together this week, so hopefully listeners will notice a bit more balance.

Pat, I think I made a particular point of disputing a few points this week that I think were asked in a fashion a wee bit loaded towards a potentially negative perception of our performance and potential. Listened back to a couple shows and felt I hadnt challenged a few of their observations enough.

Like I said to you before, get involved one week!

Yup, as much as that team as possible, even Mowbray could be obtainable now seeing as he isn't doing much now. Ten years on and all that jazz.

I just really want to know if any of that squad ever sat collectively and discussed what they could achieve at Hibs staying together. Chris Hogg another on twitter you could get.

I've listened to the first 10 minutes of this week's show and am about to retract my previous statement.

If you're reading it's not a "myth" that Hibs like to win by playing attractive football, it's a preference.

Also beating Cowdenbeath 10-0 is decent but it sounds like you're going to go on as if it's Barcelona-esque. 3 penalties and an early red card FFS! Against the worst team I've seen this season.

Oh and any chance of binning the boy that sounds like he smokes 60 a day and can't say "th" - wiff the exception of Raiff.

What can I say- there was a good reason I didn't post a link to this week's episode!

Unfortunately, the balance of the show was skewed this week due to none of us Hibs guests being able to make it to Saturday's game or the show, and so it was inevitable that Monday's edition would be a bit of a 'Hearts special'. I think in general, the fact that neither set of fans pretend to be neutral gives it a bit of a unique and hopefully interesting edge, but agree that this can come across as biased when there are no opposition fans to counter any contentious statements (needless to say that Craig, Mikey and myself were in just as much disagreement with a few of their points as you guys are!)

Next week will redress the balance with a Hibs focused episode, as the three of us will hopefully be back on to discuss our Scottish Cup game (which as we all know our Jambo counterparts are unable to do! :greengrin )

The host wanted to be unbiased but the guy that can't speak properly let his bitterness shine through. Same goes for the Riordan comments - what's he ever done to them bar a couple of GIRFUY's? The way they were going on you'd think he'd done a graham Rix, or a Craig Thomson (player) or a wee airdrie Jambo.

Just came across badly - the boys brother needs to go.

No problems with the Scott Allan chat which was more thought out and not bitter - again though initiated by the presenter not the other ones.

I agree completely on your points from this weeks show, but a little unfair on the two lads overall as in general they've been pretty good at praising Hibs where necessary. Scott in particular has been responsible for most of the Hibs interviewees so far, so although they might have let themselves down this time, it's a shame to let ten minutes of poor chat spoil what's been in general a pretty good spirited affair. As I said, the problem this time was that there was no Hibs contribution which skewed things.

However! Having had a wee chat online, the guys agreed that maybe they'd gotten a little carried away and so the same opening question will be asked to the Hibs panelists to level things out a bit. I think a certain few statements need to be challenged, as well as a chance to stand up for Deek. Danderhall Hibs, you're welcome to come along if you're free! Scott has offered to let you take his place, although personally I think he should be there to feel some Hibee ire :greengrin

Scott has offered to let you take his place, although personally I think he should be there to feel some Hibee ire :greengrin

Bitter Bitter Scott, Deek doesn't throw muffins Scott. :giruy2: :casper:

Any chance of sending it to me in a PM, will keep it to myself. Promise :aok:

I didn't post it because as a largely Hearts based episode, I didn't think it would be of interest to most folk here :aok:. Next week will balance things out (and inevitably the Jambo lot will be facing a similar backlash on Kickback haha)

If my flight's on time I could just about make it. It'd be at the end of a long day but it's just about do-able.

Nice one- let me know if you think you're able to make it. If not this week then another week that you're free would be grand.

I got to listen to the show and what a horrible way to start it, hope you really don't start your next show like you did with that one or you will start to lose a few listeners, your two guests came across as a couple of bitter folk.

Bit in bold, but you(sorry if it ain't you asking the questions) and your two guests started of by bringing up the muffin incident, and then to ask the two guests who would you want to throw a muffin at, deary me, so first of you started with slagging of JC and his incident in Gorgie last week, then the two guests answered your question about who they would like to throw muffins at, and hey ho there answer was Derek Riordan and the rest they said about him, way over the top don't you think, I would doubt Deek needs anyone to stand up for him next week on the show from any guests, , you said 10 minutes skewed what was a good show, yeah slagging of Colin Nish about his shape and other things said about him wasn't in the first 10 minutes and then up next to have a go at was Scott Allan and that was instigated by the interviewer.

As i said, hope next weeks show doesn't go down the same route, yeah banter is all good between the two sets of fans but that show went way past banter, what JC done was wrong in Gorgie and I'm sure the staff didn't see the funny side of it and JC was wrong to do it, but to ask your guests who would you love to throw a muffin at goes past banter and was a stupid question to ask and the bitterness from the two guests came oozing out of them when they spoke about Riordan. Poor show. :aok:

Bit in bold, but you(sorry if it ain't you asking the questions)...

Aha, I see the confusion here, I was wondering what you were getting at! I don't actually present or organize the show, that's Sam (who is a Jambo, but usually manages to keep things pretty neutral). I'm Connor, one of the Hibee panelists, but I wasn't able to make it in last week. I do the updates on here because most of the other guys seem to be struggling to register an account on here, even the Hibee ones. We'll do a wee introductions section on next week's show so that people can accurately identify the panelists that they hate! :greengrin

We've had a wee chat online and the Hearts guys agreed that the first section on this week's show tipped the balance in terms of one sided 'banter'- don't think the guys realized how it came across at the time. As I said, that kind of joshing only really works if there's a contribution from both sides. I'll be back alongside a few other Hibees next week to straighten things out.

Fenriz, well done for doing this, and discussing it on here...I've been a regular listener. I have to say in general the quality is high, and even the jambo oriented stuff and interviews can sometimes be interesting.

I think the guy who presents/chairs it is generally excellent. Don't agree with all he says but seems to be a real football fan, and brings a decent balance to his views...I agree with the point you made earlier that it's the opinions from both sides which can make this show interesting. Recently, though, with some of the new Jambos, there has been a slight change in two areas . Firstly, one or two of them in particular are much less balanced and bitterness towards anything Hibs comes out whenever (at least one of them) is invited to talk. This has changed some of the overall tone, as others join in at times. Secondly, there isn't the same level of quality of analysis with some of the new members. They just don't have as much considered views on football, and as a result the programme gets less interesting. This could equally by a Hibs thing - it's just that there are more prominent views from jambs currently and it is therefore more evident. It's great that there are different voices, but perhaps there could be some quality control to ensure the people who go on the show have the ability to have interesting views and opinions - after all we don't want another BBC sportsound ;-)

Anyway, keep up the good work..and fair play to the guy who chairs it...does a decent job!

Tune tonight at 10pm folks, this weeks show is going to be a bit of a Hibbie-fest after yesterdays match and no game for our dear neighbours.

Some of you (and us guys) were a bit displeased af the lack of balance last week, but tonight will be essentially all Hibs. Fell free to suggest anything you'd like covered or raised, including a rebuttal to any of the comments made by the lads last week that seemed to get a few backs up.

i like the idea of the Stramash, i.e. debating the points that there's not enough time for on the MNF show. I just felt the shock jock stuff in the fixtures fiasco show was a bit false. I like a wee swear to myself but I felt it was un-necessary at times.

Just to contrast I listened to the equivelent BBC podcast. What a joke, might be a couple minutes talking about hibs, and suggesting Rangers have 'experience and steel'.
Steel, the team that threw away 2nd place against Alloa and Livingston, as well as a 2 goal lead at hearts. Steel.
