Not surprised the second one is minging, sounds like it's produced by students.

Yup the Unicum is a rank rotten drink, sampled a few in Buda too.

I actually found the Palinka stuff worse though that stuff was awful!

Depends on the Palinka type, there is pretty much an endless amount of flavours, if you can get a home brew then you are in for a treat. My other half hails from Hungary and some of the Palinka I've sampled in elderly relatives houses are unbelievable, unfortunately it is a massive sign of disrespect if you turn it down so whatever time you go you have to neck one, some of this stuff has been fortifying for years upon years but to see the smile on some old boys face makes it worthwhile!

Anyway, I digress...some is amazing some is rank, like whisky I suppose, you'll find one that gets your juices flowing.

Its not unusual but, the copious amounts of Nemiroff vodka I've consumed on my two visits to Ukraine went down a treat!

A couple of truly excellent Belgian beers I have regularly hiccup....
La Chouffe and Chimay blue.

Slightly higher strength beers but top quality and must be served at room temperature!
