England women's rugby team win team of the year!!

I take it this is a UK public vote or is it BBC panel?

How can Paul McGinley win coach of the year? Who did he coach? I'm sure Monty won it a few years ago as well, the Ryder Cup captain isn't a coach.

Don't get how McIlroy didn't win the big one either. 2 majors in one year and a great Ryder Cup performance as well. Don't get me wrong Hamiltons achievement is a good one but it doesn't compare to McIlroy.

Voting is flawed.

Agree about Mcginley and Rory should have won.

Nicola Benedetti and the BBC SSO gave a very moving tribute to those that passed away this year.

Is Hamilton the first black geezer to have won it?

Withstanding Ali winning lesser pickings (lifetime achievement etc)

:top marks. Put Hamilton in say a Caterham, where would he have finished in the championship? Rory's success was solely down to his own natural ability. Still, can't have a non-English winner 2 years running

Lennox Lewis won it in 1999 and Kelly Holmes (I know she's female and you mentioned men) won it in 2004.

Linford Christie and Daley Thompson have also won it.

Lennox Lewis won it after he beat Holyfield. 1999 I think.

Edit: too slow.

Cheers - I didn't bother Googling and didn't immediately recall the immediate winners.

Linford Christie - really?

I mean - surely his chemist was the victor in that award

Hamilton helped Mercedes to be the best though - where were they before he joined them?

Would McIlroy have won his Majors with **** clubs?

Not saying Hamilton is not a great driver (so is Rory of course ) and fully deserved to be runner-up, but IMO Rory would have been the more worthy winner.

What are the odds on the Hibees being the team of the year 2015????

Is it just me or is this the biggest hyped non-event of the sporting calendar?

Nope as I was thinking the same this morning...surely it's a bit of an irrelevance these days?

Anyway with that thought aside I think Lewis is a deserving winner. His performances throughout the season were top top level.

How can a celebration of a nation's sporting achievement ever be described as a non-event?

I honestly can't be bothered who wins SPOTY. And why do the bother with Personality in the title? Surely it just diverts from performance and they can justify their list. I didn't pay any attention to the Commonwealth Games this year so hadn't heard of half the people nominated.

It is to me. :coffee:

I absolutely loath award shows (unless I'm getting one )

Never been a huge fan (apart from football, I'm not a huge sports person), but after they failed to mention Lawrie Reilly in the "those we have lost" section last year they can really just stick it.

Why do the BBC direct so much of our cash into this annual jolly celebrating sports, most of which don't feature on their channels?

Jo Pavey should have won. Slogging her guts out round the track for ages for scant reward and remaining a genuine type of person.

Hamilton and Rory will be lapping up the plaudits for years to come.

Best thing about this was Gary Lineker's "Cigars and Whisky" voice for presenting!

And agree that Jo Pavey should have won it.
