AAs another UKIP PPC issues an apology for offensive comments, and for having a go at UKIP leaders, I thought it would be interesting to keep a collection of all the various gaffes on one thread.

I can't remember them all, but no doubt other posters will have better memories. There are, however, loads of them.

Poofters Groups (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30467897)

Sluts (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-24222992)

Tax evasion (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-23001529)

Are you sure these are gaffes? Seems to me that this is just the sort of thinking which has been winning them votes.

I agree. They're not gaffes, they're the sort of things the swivel eyed lunatics who go in for UKIP politics genuinely believe.

Nigel goes on about all those pesky Europeans taking jobs off the Brits yet employs his German wife as his political secretary.

Nigel has said it's wrong for foreigners to speak in their native tongue on public transport, London Underground if I recall correctly, when that's exactly what his two German stepdaughters would be doing when out together.

How about the 'aid to Bongo Bongo land' guy (same one behind the 'sluts' comment) or the 'abortion of babies who have Down's syndrome'...not to mention the muppet that suggested women wearing trousers rather than skirts was a 'hostile act'.

I would assume it's increased though I don't reckon you can relate the 2.

You probably can.

It's lowest common denominator politics. Blame them foreigners, blame uppity women, blame those gaybos, blame the PC Brigade, blame the pinkos and lefties, blame that EU of course....

It appeals to a certain type of voter who wants to believe Britain was once a land of milk and honey and still thinks Britannia rules the waves and who need easy scapegoats.

A gaffe is something that works against you IMO.

Regrettably they are winning votes by making outrageous statements.

Or you could say they appeal to a large % of the electorate who don't see a party that represents their beliefs (no matter what you or I might think about that).

UKIP donor: women should be banned from wearing trousers, homosexuals are not capable of love but only lust, there is no such things as rape in marriage, slavery was good for the victims.

He isn't a member of UKIP but thinks they're the party for him and donates funds.

Or you could say they appeal to a large % of the electorate who don't see a party that represents their beliefs (no matter what you or I might think about that).

Or their prejudices. You are right. Unfortunately, people died in wars to protect the rights of such folk to vote any way they want.

It's the failure of the mainstream parties to present coherent policies and behave in a responsible manner that has led us to this position.

Having spent some time with Coburn and Thackeray in the past 12 months, this story does not surprise me one bit.

IMO, Thackeray is a complex and strange brand of :asshole: whereas Coburn is a fairly simple guy who thinks he is both more intelligent and more funny than he is, likes attention and has been given an audience of sorts. The fact that he is also a cretin is almost an aside.

I still wonder if these are gaffes. Most of the UKIP sympathisers I know, would see this remark as something that other people should be able to live. They tend to be white, and living safely and securely, with 2.4 children, and have a very sheltered existence.

The clamour for this strange man to be censured will only increase the insecurity of people who support UKIP. and UKIP prey on the frightened and insecure.

Yeah, but some of the "don't knows", might see the criticism as further proof of the fact that politics is run by a smug, self - serving Metropolitan elite, that doesn't understand real people's lives.

The type that says they have no interest in politics, because "they are all the same". That's the battle that's being fought by UKIP.

There are also a lot of supporters of the established parties who are proud racists, and they are likely to get drawn in by this.

We'd be naive to think there isn't a "silent majority" (ie the majority of people that they know) who think that the nation should be run along the same lines as their local residents association.

UKIP MEP "repatriates" money from EU by claiming massively inflated expenses with false invoices

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-31982168

Unreal. By "repatriating" she means putting it into their own bank accounts, and she honestly doesn't seem to understand she's done anything wrong. Unreal that people think this bunch of shysters are any different to other political parties.

Watched an interesting programme fronted by Trevor Phillips last night.

He went to a UKIP rally. My observations are that these people are nothing more than recycled fascists.

IMO it is the heart of democracy they are aiming at. Their constant reference to a Metropolitan elite is an attempt to bring in those who blame everybody for their own failings but themselves.

If this is their cuddly phase, we need to be very wary of what it could lead to long term.

Yet another reason for Scotland to get away from this unholy mess that is developing down south.
