This is probably more suited to the Holy Ground but...

It sounds like the SNP are doing their utmost to alienate the "Catholic"/Celtc vote. Why would you answer with a straight "yes"? Bonkers.

Worrying though, while I don't think politics and football should explicitly mix surely wearing a subtle wee badge is a right? What happened to freedom of expression? Does that mean that Yes stalls outside ER and Tynie were criminal? What if you're wearing a CND, or even just a generic "peace", badge? Is that illegal too?

If a Labour politician attends a match in an official capacity and wears a red tie, is he breaking the law? This opens a massive can of worms in blurring the line between "religion"* and politics.

It's frightening that these are the people who want to lead an independent Scottish state.

Don't take this the wrong way but you do realise the plan was to have an election following independence, during which all the parties would have been looking to lead an independent Scottish state. It was hardly clever but could this not turn into a general SNP-bashing thread?

Yes I do realise that but they are the people who are trying to encourage everyone to vote for Scottish independence and would most likely form the first Government of an independent Scotland.

When they are coming out with drivel like the stuff that's mentioned in that article, it really makes it difficult for me to take them seriously.

Fair point.

I sort of agree with that, the difference is I'm struggling to take John Mason seriously rather than the whole SNP. My point was lets discuss the Act, and Mason's interpretation, rather than the SNP.

I think his interpretation of the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act is fundamentally flawed. I've just checked the wording of the legislation and at no point does it mention that it's illegal to show support for a political ideology inside a football stadium.

The law states that it's illegal to engage in behaviour which expresses hatred of (amongst other things) nationality and ethnic or national origins and is therefore likely to incite public disorder.

Whilst I personally don't wish to publicly display my political beliefs, I fail to see how wearing a small "Yes" badge and therefore declaring your support for Scottish independence would in any way contravene this law.
