Ok, it appears that it was a bit of a bumpy landing but thinking about the science behind this, it's a phenomenal event. To think it's barely a century since we've been flying and now we're landing unmanned probes on ice rocks hurtling through space. Amazing.

It's astonishing that they've managed this, It's without doubt the greatest achievement humankind has managed in space.

Now reporting that the grappling hooks which anchor the probe may not have fired.

It would be heart-breaking for those involved to come so close and not succeed.

@sportingintel: The Rosetta space probe set off from earth a few days after Arsenal beat Charlton 2-1, Pires and Henry scoring. In the Invincibles season.

Amazing achievement. Mini-Beefster is very excited about it too, which is giving me more joy than anything. It's stuff like this that inspires kids and gets them into science.

When you consider the probe covered 4 billion miles to reach the comet which I believe is currently about 500 million miles away you just have to be astounded!

Really is an amazing feat and while clearly there have been a few issues and the long term stability of the lander is questionable the mere fact that humans have managed to pull off such an outlandish concept is truly remarkable.

A true wonder of our time.
