Who has been our best player over the first third of the season?

Oscar T Grouch
31-10-2014, 10:10 AM
Went for David Grey, its just nice to have a proper right back again, and I think he should be captain.

Easy pick in gray so far as he has played the majority of games.

However, If Allan keeps up his recent performances he will soon pass gray imo :aok:

Sir David Gray
31-10-2014, 10:24 AM
David Gray's been a fantastic signing so far, however if Scott Allan's recent form is anything to go by then he's a certainty for the player of the season award.

Stevenson for me. For a guy with 'poor delivery' he's fairly racking up the assists.

Based of recent game though, I imagine by the end of the season I'll be saying Allan or McGeouch.

Lewis Stevenson for me. Closely followed by David Gray.

Stevenson edges it on assists.

I voted for Gray. Over the course of the season and in particular in the games I've been at/watched on tv, he's performed consistently well. Dylan and Allan have shone in recent games but have taken a wee while to get to this level. Gray's been captain material as soon as he first stepped in the door imo - bar one game although I forget who against.

Nice to have a situation where it's difficult to decide who's been the best as several have been playing so well.

Lewis Stevenson for me. Closely followed by David Gray.

Stevenson edges it on assists.

Yes,two of them have been great at getting forward an having the energy to get back for some crunching tackles too

Stevenson just pips Gray for me at the moment. What a difference a year makes eh, this time last year we were struggling to come up wit one name, this year there at least 4 in the frame [Stevenson, Allan, Gray, McGeoch]. And some say we have not improved any.

Has to be about consistency of performance ,and for me to date that has to be D G despite his penalty miss .He has made the right back berth his own to the extent we are struggling to bring in cover as anyone can see that unless he is injured it's unlikely anyone coming in would be able to dislodge him .He has also shown he is Captain Material .
Lewis is a close second and yes if Allan can keep up the quality of play he has shown in last three games then would be main contender
Also agree that it's crazy Lewis wasn't one of named players on original list Especially when Robertson is on it ,but just my opinion

Lewis just pips Grey for me but only because he has been thru all the sh##e with us and lifted himself to new levels. Great to have 3 or 4 to choose from tbh and had he not been injured I reckon Farid would be a candidate and in double figures by now. Him and Malonga can tear up this league imo

In terms of consistency Fontaine and Stevenson have been rock solid all season.

I stand by my original choose of Lewis. I think though that Paul Hanlon deserves a mention. He has quietly gone about his job, performing consistently and helping Fontaine at the beginning of the season. His distribution from defence is excellent with that terrific left foot cross-field pass that he makes.

Allan by a mile, just because his level of performance has dipped a bit in recent weeks doesn't take away from the fact that he is a different class from anyone else in the division for me. I think his confidence on the ball has rubbed off on the rest of the team as well.

I think it shows how far we've come as a club that you could probably put forward a good debate for around half the first team regulars being player of the year. Over the last few years, other than Griffiths and to a lesser extent Lewis, I've felt nobody has deserved even getting their name mentioned!

We should possibly abandon the POTY this year. So many good and deserving candidates we are in danger of losing players post season this year on account of they weren't loved enough.... I swither between Gray and Fontaine but only cos they are new. Hanlon and Stevenson are up there. For sheer ability Allan and to a degree McGeouch but since he missed a fair bit of the season he's not had the same influence. Similarly Dominique and Farid. Jason for the goals and Robbo for the consistency. No idea. So cancel the awards....

Allan on his day is the best player in this league by quite some distance but hasn't been consistent enough IMO to be POTY. Would go for McGeough myself. Changes the time every time he gets on the ball. Really pulls the team forward with him and reminds me a bit of a young Scott Brown with his energy.
