What game, in your opinions, has been the loudest/best atmosphere at ER?

Mines is either New Year derby last season, Dnipro or Malmo. (I wasn't at the AEK game, was just a nipper).

AEK ..was in the West that night & my ears were about bursting ..the 6-2 massacre of the Savilles was a brilliant atmosphere too ..albeit with a smaller crowd ..:agree:

AEK was far and away the best atmosphere I've ever experienced.. Dnipro was up there with Stotty on the mic at both of these games. New year derby last year and the cup game the year before also springs to mind!

At ER it has to be...AEK Athens... memorable... and makes me smile to this day!!
Not part of your original question but away has to be: Scottish cup quarter final at killie followed by Malmo ;)

Memories include the game v Leeds. c 1974. The 6-2 game brought tears to my eyes, the best derby performance since 1973, the place was rocking.

However, perhaps the most remarkable was last years SCF v Celtic. Never have I been prouder of being a Hibs fan. There were tears in my eyes that day too, we showed the worlds greatest fans a thing or two about backing your team.

Against the Huns for Souness' 1st game, just mental in every way, Scorchio as well which seemed to add to it. Aek brilliant as well. In recent years I really enjoyed the relegation game with Dunfermline a few seasons ago. I was in section 43 with my son (9 at the time) and it was bouncing. I would agree but I will throw another one in the mix that has stuck with me and it was a Cup semi final ? Against Aberdeen at Dens Park Dundee .i seem to remember the Atmosphere before the game was getting louder and louder with constant chanys of bring on the Hibees Think we got beat 3 0 possibly and John zCollins was a late sub .
The other more recent one was the Cup game at Killie when Griffiths got his Hatrick .The whole stand was shaking and we backed the team the whole game Think griffiths fed off that atmosphere when he looked out on his feet only to get a second wind and go on and complete his Hatrick

AEK I reckon, unbeatable derby was good too. Didn't make 6-2 game, left house in Leith to get bus to mate's house in Porty when it was 1-0 to them, pleasantly surprised it was 2-1 to us. Watched with about 4 other hibbies and one jamtard, who said at 4 or 5 -1 "this is f***in shocking". "There's still ten minutes left!", I replied. Nowt to do with the atmosphere and wasn't there, but thought I'd share nonetheless!:greengrin

There have been so many I genuinely cannot pick just one game where ER was at its loudest/best atmosphere. So, just a small selection of games at ER (no away games):

The great European nights under the floodlights were always something special, especially 6-1 v Sporting Lisbon, 5-0 v Napoli, & 1-0 v Liverpool.

Another game which comes to mind for the atmosphere was beating Real Madrid 2-0, even though it was a friendly match. The old cliché was/is that Real never really play friendlies. Seeing Real in their all white strips under the lights for the first time, and beating them - fantastic atmosphere.

Beating the Yams 3-0 on New Years Day 1976 (we beat them so often those days I've picked this game - it was just so easy - a nice relaxed atmosphere ). More recently, the 6-2 demolition, GO'Cs last minute winner game, the Spoonie Scottish Cup win, and the New Year 2-1 game in front of 20,000+.

Beating the Huns as a "welcome" present for Souness' first game for the Huns. Hibs fans went berserk when we scored and when he got sent off.

Great memories.

Was at most of the games mentioned and in modern times was in the East for the AEK game doing the Hibee Bounce whether you wanted to or not was superb. When Paddy Stanton scored the equaliser in 94 mins at Tynie was great along with the Archie winner match. The 7 0 at tynie was good as it ended up with no Jambos left at Tynie. All the European games in the 60's and the Real Madrid friendly was superb but best of all I think was the Barcelona game with the Kinloch penalty winning the game after the Barca riot.

And on a more obscure note http://www.fitbastats.com/hibs/game.php?gameid=77815

HIbs v Airdie games were often 'feisty' affairs. I'm sure Airdrie had at least 1 player sent off too. Nothing about who the ref was but I remember him being so bad that the East was baying for his blood. Add that to the fact it was a floodlit game and the atmosphere and noise for 6662 was amazing. In fact after some searching on the web, a certain 'D Kirkwood' (hun bass), scored 2 pens!

Seen a few Hibs Euro nights and they are usually good ..... But AEK Athens was just different from any match I have witnessed at ER, the atmosphere was surreal at times .... if Luna had netted that 3rd I'm positive the crowd would have been on the pitch.

The Souness game was brilliant too as was the 6 - 2 and the Spoony derby. There have been a few comeback matches, Dundee Utd a few years back and believe it or not the Dumbarton game this season .... its incredible the noise 6,000 folk can make if you give them a reason.

Away:

A cup semi in the 80s at Dens v the Sheep ... we lost 1 - 0 to a freak goal but the Hibs fans were brilliant all night.

The penalty defeat of the old Rangers at Hampden..... 7,000 legends that night.

The last 15 minutes of the 2013 cup final were special as were, believe it or not the first 20 odd minutes of the 2012 final, folk forget about that coz of the final outcome .... but up until everybody could see we had a bunch of losers playing for us that day we were kicking the Yams erses in the noise contest. You could barely hear them until they went 3 - 1 and a man up.

The Killie QF was brilliant too.

Arthur Duncan played through the middle and ran riot. The best atmosphere for me would have to be one of the European nights. Naples was brillient also the games against Leeds with over 40000 there, but the best for me was the second half against Sporting Lisbon and Jimmy O'Rourkes hat trick.........Remember it well, happy happy days.

AEK was brilliant but, for me, Sporting blew it away. The Cave was about to be converted into a family area with bench seating (only the Besa game after Sporting allowing standing). I remember being in the Cave well before kick off time and it was rammed despite there being no-one else in other parts of the ground. My older brother couldn't get in as he had just started work and couldn't get there in time. Just the best atmosphere ever IMHO!!

His face was a picture, we stood the whole game and briefly it felt like the way football used to be.

Slap bang in the middle of the east terracing for souness's first game, and all his newly signed revolutionary international English superstars (somebody butcher?? and a few others), I was about 14 and had just had my first ever session, in the dalmeny I think, atmosphere was unbelievable and when the stramash kicked off, it got better, and when souness got red carded, it got better and when the second goal went in it got better, and when the final whistle went yup you guesses it .....

......... it was all over!:flag:

If we are including sw1necastle, then for me it's the 1-2 game in 2005. Great backing throughout Garry O, then Deano with the winner. Roseburn end went tonto :greengrin

It's funny but for all the sheight times I've endured following Hibs to Tynecastle some of my best memories are from when we have won there.

Gordon Hunter game to end the 22 games. Benches uprooted from folk jumping on them, sure it was the day they opened 2 of their bus shelters too.

Andy Dow scoring on his debut, Hibs end wene mental. Think medals equalised late on sadly.

0-3 millenium derby. I just knew we were going to hump them that night.

1-2 with Shiels and O'Connor. Hibs end described by the match commander as 'bordering on hysteria'. As good as ruled them out of the race for Europe as well.

1-2 Caldwell game. Not a huge Hibs support but we never shut up all game and the celebrations at the winner were mental.

At ER best atmosphere for me was the Wotherspoon game. Just edged AEK imo, as the last 10 minutes we helped drag the team over the line. We simply had to win that game, and we did.

I always remember the derby when O connor scored the last minute winner, that was a mental atmosphere right the way through.. Ref attacked, fans on the pitch, fighting outside the stadium.. The game was pretty mental and the atmosphere was unreal.. Think that was 2003

The 10-men derby (Brebner sent off, wrongly, after about 30 min). My favourite memory of that game is walking round the back of the FF stand after the game, where Lawrie Reilly was hanging out the window conducting the crowd.

AEK game is the clear winner in my time watching Hibs.

The Napoli game along with Leeds, Liverpool and SL were all magical moments - I always remember the special atmosphere when Joe Baker returned to ER - white boots, an apparently "unbeatable" Aberdeen team with Bobby Clark in goal and Baker scored the winning goal- it was "only" a league game (First time I'd seen Baker play) but the atmosphere was electric when Baker came out the tunnel and the place went barmy when he scored ...

Also New Years Derby in 1987. Place went so mental after Beastie scored the opening goal that I never even saw the cheats equaliser a min or so later. Game finished 2-2, but atmosphere was brilliant.

It's slightly surreal now to think that claudio caniggia played for dundee that day and at the end of the following season would be included in argentina's world cup squad, albeit as a rangers player. Dundee had some great players at that time, it's no wonder they went bust :greengrin

The AEK game.

It took place two weeks after September 11th and there were all sorts of both memorable and weird moments. I seem to recall a spine tingling rendition of Sunshine on Leith coming from all four stands. There was a pitch invader. There was a pretty loud chant of USA, USA, USA at one point from the Hibs fans.

And it felt like we just might do it as the game went on. Paco Luna at the end is one of those things you never forget and you play it over and over again in your memory. For me that miss was a bit like Steve McQueen on the motor bike at the end of The Great Escape. Every time I watch it I hope that he will somehow, this time, make the jump on the bike over the barbed wire fence. But no matter how hard I wish it, Paco never scores that goal.

AEK are the muslim team in Athens. Without looking it up I think they were started by Turks .... anyway they had made some noise or other in support of the terror attacks ...... added on to the hard time the Hibs support got in Athens it certainly went towards the atmosphere that night.

AEK are not a muslim team, but were founded by immigrants after the 1920's "exchange" with Turkey. Their nickname Χανουμακι translates as "little foreign girl". This is the derogatory nickname other teams refer to them as.

AEK for me too, the only time I can remember all four stands being as noisy as each other. I m sure a USA flag was unfurled at half time in the middle of the east too...

Remember a teacher at school at the time who was a west ham fan telling me he listened to it on the radio and the hair on the back of his neck was standing up with the noise we made.

Also heard the AEK fans were kept back for a very long time after the game and they were thanking the police for this. This was followed by a police escort back to the airport. Think they were taken a back by the extremely hostile reception they got after the carry on over there.

Another good one for me would be a late 90s mid week 1 1 against Celtic. Sure we came back late against them after we outplayed them most of the game. East was its usual excitable borderline loony self that night.

Kicked off later on Albion Road after Police decided to try leaving the barriers down.
