It's not the end of the world, nor anything to be ashamed of, if we get beat tonight. I still think we're qualifying from this group! Poland are on a good run of results right now and will rightly be going into it with massive confidence having beaten the World Champions.

We have players capable of hurting them though.

Fletcher surely has to start though he was good on Saturday, certainly wouldnt be dropping him for Bannen.

Wouldn't surprise me to be honest mate if Fletcher doesn't play.

Poland will have to take the game to Scotland this evening, unlike against Germany where they mainly defended - they'll be on a high after their win, but maybe a bit complacent too? Scotland will need to deal with Lewandowski and hope for counter-break opportunities ... a draw would be a decent away result for Scotland ...

They've been saying that they will take nothing for granted but they might do subconsciously (probably what hibs have been doing this season). It's kind of hard not to after defeating the world champions but you're right...The tables have been turned and we will be the ones sitting back and playing the counter attacking game.

I've not looked at the schedule but I take it we aren't on the council TV. Again.

Scotland are dogdy at the back and will have their handsful with RL.
They are definitely good enough up top to punish poland however. Hopeful of a win. Not sure what to expect. It would be a brilliant three points. Need to massively improve from Saturday though

:agree: I would probably start S.Fletcher upfront too but cannot see Strachan dropping him before Naisy and think only one will start - Naismith upfront himself. Not convinced Bannan will start though - think either Darren Fletcher (fit?) or McCarthur will come in, in a more defensive lineup to Saturday.

Having said that.. we were very attack-minded on Saturday with Maloney starting too.. would like to think their won't be too many unforced changes!

Regarding tonight.. I would have taken a draw before their game on Saturday night... feel like we HAVE to really push for a win now and hope for 6 points from our next 2 games now (anything less than 4 points and we're already struggling in the hunt for 2nd place)

Lewandowski isn't an out and out "striker", although he's probably the best "hold up man" in the world ATM who brings other players into attacking positions with relative ease. I wouldn't actually be surprised to see him up top on his own tonight with 3 attacking forwards/wingers in behind him.

Please, no! He was the difference between the first and second half performances against the Germans. Whenever he got the ball, play slowed down, whereas after he went off, we attacked Germany with real pace.

Steven Fletcher also played a big part in opening up the Germans, giving himself and others space to attack. Maybe a super-sub role would suit him in this game as well.

I can't get passionate about international football in the same way as club football. Perhaps that's because Scotland haven't had a decent side for so long. I'm probably in a rather small minority in that I like to see Scotland, England and Ireland all do well.

Take it Greer is the boy that was fairly average for killie about 10 years ago?

That said strachan has done a terrific job so far, he'll know his best 11 much better than I do

People need to remember that Whittaker is far more experienced than Robertson, he has played in similar environments many times. Robertson was excellent on Saturday in a home match against Georgia, a more experienced defender could be what fits the bill this evening however.

I trust Strachans reasons for doing this are all about giving is the best chance to win the match.

Wish we could get a proper right back, Hutton is decent enough going forward but murder at the back

Spot on - responsible for both their goals - for the 2nd why in the hell does he stand and watch as the high ball comes over to the Polish guy and give him time to control it and make a pass - put pressure on him don't let him control it in the first place.
And dont agree with Whittaker at left back - he's struggled because he is right footed.

Having said that, a point away to Poland is a good result! 4 points after 3 games that featured 2 of the hardest away games in the group is quite acceptable IMO.

You'd think he was the only RB we have but Whittakers in the squad and has been for the last few seasons and never gets a sniff in his own position.

Hutton's untouchable for some reason - if they still pick him when he's not playing 1st team football then he's a stick on when he is actually getting a game for someone.

Agree with the good Bishop. We just need to keep going and win our home games. From memory, though, I think we have Germany at home in our penultimate game and I hoped they'd have qualified by then, meaning they wouldn't be giving it their all. Then we play Gibraltar in what could have been a party atmosphere. Instead I'll probably be wherever it's played concentrating on the other results.

Ireland game should have been at Ibrox. Screw 'fairness' (i.e. giving Celtic/Rangers one game each), having the game at Ibrox would have been a more hostile atmosphere for the Irish, and that's to Scotland's advantage.

Is the table based on points and then head to head?

Just curious as to why Germany are ahead of us with a goal difference of -1 compared to our 0.

:agree: Yep.

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following tie-breaking criteria are applied:

Higher number of points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
Superior goal difference resulting from the matches played between the teams in question;
Higher number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question;
Higher number of goals scored away from home in the matches played between the teams in question;
If, after having applied criteria 1 to 4, teams still have an equal ranking, criteria 1 to 4 are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the teams in question to determine their final rankings. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria 6 to 10 apply;
Superior goal difference in all group matches;
Higher number of goals scored in all group matches;
Higher number of away goals scored in all group matches;
Fair play conduct in all group matches (1 point for a single yellow card, 3 points for a red card as a consequence of two yellow cards, 3 points for a direct red card, 4 points for a yellow card followed by a direct red card);
Position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking system;

Come on eh? We all know that there are lots of Celtic fans in the republic team and as a collective they will probably enjoy playing at parkhead more than any other ground on Scotland.

I know that anti-Irish bigotry is a very real problem which is underreported in Scotland. I'm also one of the few who defends Celtic when they fly tricolours as I believe they have a right to consider culture over borders when displaying symbols of their identity.

The parkhead thing is purely football based and I'm sure that's what the guy above also meant when he said "hostile". You're finding issues where there are none.
