Was until recently first team coach at Carduff City but before that had several posts coaching and developing youth set ups so may be good appointment

You don't have to be a good player to be a good coach I guess! Joe junior was not a patch on his auld man as a player but if the story us true, welcome back to the Hibees Joe jnr!

He brought through the likes of Aiden McGeady,Paul Caddis and Cillian Sheridan at Celtic. He is a well known and respected coach through out all levels of football.

I still remember his equaliser at Tynecastle in about 1979.

And meeting Jambos in the chippie afterwards who couldn't believe they still hadn't beaten us for years despite being 2-0 up after about 5 minutes...

It was way after 79. Mid to late 80s nearer the mark.
Edit - 2/4/85 was the date.

He's one of my all time favourites. IIRC it was a leg break at Clydebank that scuppered his Hibs career.

He's a good guy is wee Joe. Lives next door to my mate.
Still has loads of affection for the Hibees too.
I'll be happy if this comes off. So will Mrs McBride !! :)))

So this guy has got experience and been a success in the role at Celtic and Cardiff?

Certainly looks like the hysterical reaction to James mcdonague (sorry, sure that's not the right spelling) was a bit ott

I think your memory is playing tricks. IIRC the game was circa 1985, and we had not beaten Hearts for six years by that stage.

Some statement given some of the dross we've witnessed in the past 40 years. Joe Jnr was a good player, no question.

I was a crappy night and the rain was peeing down, i went home at half time dying with the flu. Mate took great delight in phoning me from pub at FT.

You're right - I remember it being an evening game so I thought it must have been pre 1983 - when I went to Aberdeen Uni - but it must have been over the Easter break.

Hearts scored really early too - before a large number of Hibees had got into Tynie. And most had left well before McBride's late, late strikes.

Still one of my favourite derbies.

used to love watching Joe's legendary corner kicks. An art form.

Was it 2 free kicks he scored with. Did he not take one of them and score, the ref asked for a retake for some reason and he stuck it in the same postage stamp. Between they goals and Archibald's at Tynie are my fav goals fi that *hithole. Not the happiest times of my life, spent my whole high school years at the school behind with no bragging rights. Oh the pain

April 1985 2-2. Wasn't a great team unfortunately and didn't live up to 'Coming Alive In '85'!! We were in a relegation battle with Dumbarton...
