Sad day. Great old school actor, one of those that is forever popping up in Sunday afternoon Channel 4 epics as well as his more stellar Oscar winning roles and - obviously - Jurassic Park.

A great man with a real social conscience.

His work for the Khao Lok Tsunami Appeal, borne out of the personal tragedy he suffered there, raised in excess of £1M. His work for British film and many charities was tireless.

He and his brother David are two of the best of British. It is a shame that there aren't more of them about in public life.
