Hello

What does everyone do on here for keeping fit? As in going to the gym , cycling , jogging things like that .

I have just joined leith victoria gym , it's quite good . I have been doing 30 mins cardio and 30 mins weights then going down and sitting in the steam room which I find relaxing . I have also been going for cycles from leith to roseburn and back using the cycle paths . I agree what u say about the mental side of things because it does help, my problem is sticking with the fitness I tend to fall away after a few weeks so need to keep it up !

I trekked 16 and a bit miles through the hills today. Loved every step, can't beat getting out in the countryside, bit fresh air, good company (or alone when the fancy takes me) and getting the blood pumping.

Probably ruined the healthy part by necking 3 pints and a burger at the end mind you.

Where did you walk? We have moved closed to the pentlands and looks like some great walks are close by.

Was out in the Trossachs today.

Head up to the Pentlands often, some great walk ranging from pretty easy going to some real tough ones. I've got a really good book with about 30 odd Pentland walks in it but have totally forgotten the name of it, when I get home I'll send it to you by PM as it's great for getting to know various areas in the hills.

Used to walk across the hills from Balerno to the Flotterstone Inn and finish with a pint.

We were training for the West Highland Way the time, it made it more enjoyable.

Let me just preface this by saying I'm female! :greengrin

I've always been really skinny, and in recent times have wanted to fill out a bit but my body shape never seemed to change. I'd done volleyball and running in the past but it was earlier this year I switched to weights and absolutely love it. Between cutting out a lot of the processed food I used to eat (chicken wings and chips mostly) and eating more but fresh, as well as lifting weights three times a week I started putting on weight for the first time in my life. Good weight, as in muscle. I'd always wanted a bit of definition in my arms and abs and I noticed a difference within the space of several weeks.

Was on off holiday for a couple of weeks and have kinda been neglecting it so have regressed a bit but it's comforting to know I just have to go back to the weights to get it back again.

I don't tend to do much cardio these days, I run now and then and go for the occasional swim but I've found for what I want out of it in terms of how I want to look, weights and core exercises are the best for me.

As an aside, I'm also one of the ones who has posted on the depression and anxiety thread and I find that the satisfaction from lifting weights and completing a hard work out really helps to keep me feeling mentally fit and positive too.

Edited to add: there's also a thread here called 'losing weight' lots of good answers in there.

This is pretty much me except im male :greengrin

Play 5 a side two sometimes three times a week but been struggling a bit with injuries lately (getting older is rubbish!). Just started running a bit again, nothing too much, about 40 mins once a week (when I'm not injured!). I got into kettlebells a couple of years ago, really good for all over strength, especially core strength.

Also love hill walking. I live near the Welsh border, so loads of good walks near by. The Clwydian range is lovely if you're down this way. Avoid Moel Famau on a nice day though, gets dead busy and it spoils it a bit. The Clocaenog forest is good too. I go wild camping there and you don't see anyone for days sometimes, very peaceful. :)

Im a bit of keep fit freak, like to be at the gym no less than 4 days per week, and even on my "rest days" im normally out on my bike or doing some low intensity cardio. Its either that or have to watch corrie etc with the other half

Similar tactic to mine. Even the toughest of workouts is much less painful than watching the soaps and listening to 'her'! ;):)

Some good classes at Leith if you feel yourself falling away from your usual workouts in the gym - i find it easier to do the classes than actual workouts in the gym...it forces me to do the whole workout where i might get fed up and give up if left to my own devices in the gym :agree: :greengrin
