Thought he was Hibs best player tonight, constantly looking to drive at the Dunfermline defense.
Handling was motm i thought.

100% correct. Close by were Stevenson and allan. Don't think anyone played bad on another day could have put 3-4 away.
P.S sign that pars keeper up. Great game

We played well and their keeper was great, could easily have been 2/3-0. Positive signs

My comment about Handling was maybe a bit harsh in hindsight, but I just don't see him scoring the goals we will need this season. I hope I'm proved wrong though.

Agree he may not make it as striker, i think that's why stubbs is playing him deeper. Technically the best player we have, along with stanton. The difference when the ball is played to his feet, not bouncing at neck height, is amazing.

Their keeper was immense! Unfortunately just signed for another year on loan with dunfermline from partick thistle. The steward beside us said before the game to watch out for him. Not that that means anything but it sounds like he was one of their best players last year.

Its interesting that there's been more comments on here re DH than all the other players put together! IMO that's because he was always looking for the ball & trying to be creative. It didn't always work but I'll give him 10/10 for effort. OTJ on the other hand was anonymous but his attitude, & rest of players was v different from last season, eg he & others were chasing ref for a pen near end of a pre season friendly, good to see. As for some other comments on this board, I sometimes think we have more infiltrators than Hibs fans watching. I have a simple request for this season, Constructive Criticism Please!

3 things tonight. My seat was absolutely blootered in bird crap, the queue for the pie stall was horrendous at half time, and I doubt danny handling will ever make it at hibs.
Now I am generally a glass half-full guy.....
We had a decent crowd through but there were still plenty of empty seats. You wouldn't have to look too far to find one not covered in bird crap.
Their catering is magnificent - good food at decent prices, therefore it is in demand. I wouldn't get off my arse to go and queue at ER for the overpriced guff we flog so you're welcome to it.
Danny Handling had a great game last night. We've struggled to join up the midfield and attack for yonks and he did a great job dropping deep to get the ball and drive at them. I think we needed Craig to get beyond him and into the box more and we'd have caused them more trouble. I've not been a huge Handling fan in the past but I thought he was excellent last night.
Opinions, eh?

I genuinely thought we played to a decent standard yesterday considering it was a pre-season friendly. The defence in particular looked well drilled in my opinion and never looked particularly threatened. I Think handling played well but did fade in the second half. also never thought id say it but Nelson looked very composed and you could count on one hand how many times he humped the ball aimlessly. makes a massive difference to last seasons constant "tactic". deffo need another 5+ in id say and in particular a decent goalkeeper, the young lad had very little to do yesterday but I did notice that every corner or cross ball situation he either flapped at it and missed or ended up on his backside , though im sure Combe will sort that out, it was good to see goalkeepers warmed up properly by a guy who can kick the ball !
So in addition to last night's team we had Hanlon, Heffernan, Cummings, Harris, Stanton, El Alagui & Gray who didn't start, that's our 3 main strikers & in total 7 players who will almost certainly be in 1st team squad each week. In addition we'll bring in a minimum of 3 more players, effectively giving us 2 first teams for selection. Of course we'll also have the U-20 team with their players looking to join the likes of Todd, Gardiner & Allan in already being recognised by AS. And big plaudits to young Lewis last night, for a 17 yo playing as a lone striker he did exceptionally well.
Major apologies for the positivity!!

It ended 0-0 and we had three strikers not available for the match due to injury or fitness issues.
Can anyone see a link there?

Our best Physiotherapist has just left the club and the strike force has fallen apart .
different circumstances Heff isn't the fittest player and when pushed in training now seems to be injury prone so would imagine we will be looking at another striker coming in Cummings played lots of games at end of his first season and wasn't injured but he is still young and developing so we need to be carefull and not overplay him Was the new guy injured or just not fit enough as not had pre season Training behind him

So I was at the game yesterday and was really impressed with the way we passed the ball. Even Nelson was looking for a pass, even when we were "willing" him just to hump the ball up the park. Think it will take a while to get away from the Butcher hoof ball approach but signs yesterday were good.
The young boy Allen up front reminded me of a young and hungry O'Connor, he also did the Griffiths approach of chasing down the ball from the keeper to the centre halfs, which made them panic and struggle to find the right pass. Even noticed Lewis S and Booth switch positions a few times in the first half which was great to see.
Finally a wee word on our boy between the sticks, it was brilliant to see him look for a pass and not panic when the ball was passed back to him even when he was being chased down.
Looking forward to the new seasons :flag:

Jason Cummings left the yams' academy at U17 due to being injured most of that season. Even at Hutchie U19s he was prone to the odd injury. The coaches may need to look at the way he plays to try and reduce the amount of injuries he gets.

Although I would never have admitted this a month or so ago, last night I ( and many others ) openly applauded Nelson for at least 3 genuinely good pieces of defending. I mean, he intercepted, tackled or muscled the guy out before turning and passing the ball on the deck to another Hibs player. Some women around me were fainting, it was quite a surprise to see.
Thought Craig had another good game last night, nice to see him being first to come and applaud the fans at the end of the game. All in all without our strongest team out and playing a back 3 we were never really troubled - I never felt the rising panic of last season every time an opponent approached our defence. Another couple of signings and we will have, dare I say it - a football team.

I was at the match last night with my boy.
i was pleased to see the difference in warm ups and passing drills on the deck before kick off.
i was also pleased at the way the team performed throughout the game. Some good passing, tackling and generally felt the team were together. It would have been nice for a win, but what I seen was a difference in the team from last season.
stubbs and his management team will turn this team around, not from the off, but as the season progresses, Hibs will only get stronger as teams above us at the beginning of the season fade.
a few more so called quality signings before the start of the season will happen, and I'm hoping to win our first game of the season in the league.

I said before we were relegated that I'm not 100% sure that Rangers will be promoted this season - if Butcher was a hoofball merchant then Fat Sally is even worse. A good passing performance by ourselves with a few more signings and we should be aiming to beat Sevco in all four league games.

Do you actually believe that? I mean far be it for me to disagree, but i cant for the life of me see just how ANY of what you say can come true.
We will be aiming for a play off place this season, and as much as i dont like it, The Rangers will stroll to the title.

FWIW I don't agree, we will soon find out.
Also I thought handlings quick and deft turns with the ball last night were really good, still a bit lacking with final ball, was impressed tho

If we threaten the Rangers chances of promotion, then our luck will probably change for the worse. Better let Hearts and Rangers have this season and we may be luckier the following season.

Sevco have been facing part time teams so far - in a league of mostly full time teams they're going to have a tough time of it. Relegated Arbroath ran Rangers close last season a couple of times but conditioning came into it in the end - that won't occur quite as often in this league.

I get what your saying and i think they have better players than us. But, and this is what gives me hope, super ******** is the worst manager in all 4 Scottish leagues. He has had to pay £10K per week salaries to win leagues that others have won with butchers, bakers and candlestick makers doing 12 hour shifts getting out of bed with two hours sleep and earning about £50 a week as footballers. Have faith!! Mine hasn't quite been kicked out of me by Hibs yet!!!

Faith, whats that? Do you not mean patience? :greengrin I think you only have to look at their signings that have supplemented an already decent squad to see none of the clubs in the Championship are near them for quality. It makes no difference what they have paid to get here, because they have and they are here now.
The players they have signed just this summer had folk on here wetting themselves with excitement with the thought that we might be interested. Goals is what they have secured, guaranteed goals. The centre half from St Mirren is decent too.
They are definitely a lot nearer us in terms of quality than in years gone by, but honestly we wont fight for the championship with them, i'm hoping we are fighting for a play off spot, and really should be.

Bell.
Foster. Zaliukas. McGregor. Wallace.
Shiels. McCullouch. Black. Templeton.
Miller. Boyd.
Good squad. Only thing against them is that they've lowered their standards so much in the last two years that they might get a shock when hey see how high the standards are raised just because the 'big three' are in it.
Then again, Boyd, Miller Zaliukas, McGregor will all be sharp from playing at a higher level and this may galvanise their team mates to reach a higher standard that we know they're all capable of..
Another comfort is Ally's ineptitude at management. I'd say based on the last few games and the quick turnaround we're seeing at this stage that Stubbs has more of a clue of what he's doing than McCoist has. All Ally knows is money and pub teams!
Only problem with that would be if they got rid of Mccoist and got his pal McCall in. That'd probably win them the league!
I hope we aim for first. We should without question be in the top three, but I'd hope we get it together with a few more quality players and win this league! I think we can do it, but actually doing it is an entirely different matter considering I thought we could've been top 5 last season, look how that panned out!

All three goals from Ventura County involve entirely hilarious defending from Sevco. Plenty reasons to feel more optimistic.
First goal 58 minutes into the video, the final two from them in the last 20 minutes or so of the game.

It's just a friendly, getting fitness levels up and match fitness for the big test ahead in 3 weeks time, they will be up for it then with a 20-30 goal scorer leading the line, the guy who found it pretty easy against Nelson last season.
