Anyone else on here brew their own beers?
I'm a recent convert and my first effort was a maerzen type oktoberfest bier which could have been doing with a bit more fizz but tasted pretty decent.
Second effort was st Peter's ruby red ale which has worked a treat and is perfectly carbonated. Even if I do say so myself it's absolutely superb stuff.
I started a raspberry frambois today and have a st Peter's golden ale up after that.

Any other kits that are worth trying out?

A few guys I worked with and myself recently went to one of the craft brewing kitchen events the Stewart Brewery run. Steve Stewart is a really decent guy, for a Hearts fan, and it was a great day out. We made a 6.8% American IPA, we go back next week to bottle and taste. £160 for 40 litres.

That's really got me thinkimg about trying home brewing but I honestly have no clue where to start. Been reading a lot online and it all seems relatively straightforward , with a bit of thought, so think I might take the plunge soon.

I know 3 of his ex-employees that would strongly disagree with that. Mind you I doubt he thinks too highly of them either :greengrin

My friend from Dumbar is quite well known in home brew circles for being on the ball, a double garage full of beer, ciders, wines and spirits (changing bog standard whisky, gin, rum, vodka etc. into the elixir of life or what should be found in the chalice of the Holy Grail).

Trips to the garage are where legends are made and broken :-)

He has long chats with the home brew shop man in Newington, who used to be just off Easter Road.

Start there.

I was in the brew store this afternoon picking up a couple of kits.

It's actually fairly easy to make from a kit, as long as you sterilise there isn't much that can go wrong.

Always wanted to give it a go myself. Would love to get home and crack open a bottle of Haymakers Best.
