Very sad news. British actor Rik Mayall, who starred in comedies The Young Ones & Blackadder, dies aged 56 http://bbc.in/1uKTQlM (http://t.co/RnrC5FvqiP) pic.twitter.com/JAV8DAwUl3 (http://t.co/JAV8DAwUl3)
I loved watching Bottom when I was younger and the halloween episode in particular is my favourite.
What are your favourite memories of him?

Can't believe it.
My favourite has to be the Comic Strip's A Fistful of Travellers Cheques...he was brilliant in that, especially in the "shootout" with Peter Richardson in the desert....priceless.

Bottom when he tells Eddie to disperse his weight evenly over the conservatory in the burglar episode or the whole of Drop Dead Fred, actually gutted at this news

Sad news, was a big fan of him.
Best memory has to be his cameos as Lord Flashheart in Blackadder 2 and Blackadder Goes Forth. Brilliant.

Agree:agree: The Comic Strip Presents... was his (and the rest of that comic generations) finest hour. Although he was just perfect as Ric in the Young Ones as well. We've all met someone like that.
Him and Ade as the Dangerous Brothers on Saturday Night live.
As I've said a Comedy Genius!!

This house will become a shrine, and Punks and Skins and Rastas will all gather round and hold their hands in sorrow for their fallen leader. And all the grown ups will say, "But why are all the kids crying"? And all the kids will say, "Haven't you heard? Rick is dead! The People's Poet is dead!"
RIP Rick Mayall

I was knocked for six when this news came on the radio this afternoon, I have fond memories of watching the young ones when it was first aired around about 1981/2. A load of my mates would come round to my minging flat to watch each episode accompanied by a few joints. We would piss ourselves laughing at the humour which seemed to fit with our own lifestyles, chaotic and unencumbered by responsibility. Rick was a brilliant, funny character and at the time everyone had a pal who was just like him, my favourite memory was when he took a tampax from a girls bag at a party in the house oblivious to what it was, he was so clueless you just had to laugh...RIP Rick
