View Full Version : Hibs website - redesign needed?

I realise we are all thinking a lot about the club in other areas.

However, one thing that has stuck in my head is how the club website looks. I personally think it needs a bit of "new life" about it. Everything for me looks far too cramped and the website whilst being for Hibs needs to have less green - it makes viewing difficult. The News section should be given more focus and incorporate the Hibernian TV videos (jquery/javascript slider/slideshow type thing).

Also, the menus down the left, well, there's too many of them now - I'd prefer we had a horizontal navigation at the top with fewer key headers and accompanying drop downs (save space). This alone would give the rest of the content more room to breath because we've currently got 4 distinct columns (nav section; news/clubstore section; hibernian tv/ads/summer academy; and ads) that is all shoved into a small space. On my particular monitor, the body is only taking up 900px; as you can imagine these 4 columns in 900px makes it look very very cramped.

Too much green and too much vertical (column) design in my books. This is in no way meant as a criticism, just think now, with everything else that's going on, it's be a good time to improve communication with fans through the ease of use on the website and providing news more often and make it more accessible. Also, where possible, it'd be good to move away from Flash as this regularly means mobile users struggle. News section and Hibernian TV are rendered useless on phones, tablets, etc.

I'd like to see a cleaner approach similar to Celtics: http://www.celticfc.net/mainindex. Motherwell's one is similar to ours but you can see the effect of having the navigation horizontal with dropdowns and the space generated for main content: http://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/.

Wonder what we all think? I do realise this is one part of a much larger issue but I find that almost everything is wrong with the club. Except for the fans :top marks

I emailed the club 2yr ago saying that the mobile app was useless and that many fans try access it that way and can't.

The reply was sorry it might be updated soon.

I don't know if it has changed now, but a few days ago it still said the next match was the first leg of the play-off!

That sounds good! I didn't hear about this...

Don't necessarily want Celtic's website but we do need an improvement now.

How come nobody's asked me to do it?

It'd save them a lot of money, I'd happily do it for free. They would also get something genuinely unique to Hibs.

EDIT: If they use PHP, I hereby withdraw my offer.

Current (previous?) deal is with Perform Media and if it's the same as Hearts it doesn't cost the club anything as they take the ad money. Don't know the details of Hibs deal though but I can't imagine it'd be all that different.

OK, that's not so bad.

It does seem rather out of date compared to other club sites. Yet another improvement task for Leeann.
