Just wondering, but why would americans want to buy into a scottish football team that has just been relegated ??
Makes no sense to me
Did Americans not buy, or at least attempt to buy into Dundee.recently?

Don't understand this - this would suggest that the shares were bought for 575 million? I thought my point was Abramovich would buy 40% of the shares and Hibs fans would buy 60%. From then on, if Abramovich pumped money into the club like he does at Chelsea, say 250 million then fair enough. Otherwise, if he is going to get close to 100% ownership and just does whatever he wants, then, no, I'm not behind this.
So the 250 mill is just a guess? I am basing our 60% on your 40% equating to that figure.

Don't understand this anymore. If he owned 40% then chose to invest money how would that effect our 60% ownership before the event? Does that mean minor shareholders at Chelsea or Man City have heart attacks each time the owner (majority shareholder) invests cash, because they need to meet it with an investment equal to their percentage...this is based entirely on a dream so what's this all about?
I clearly stated I'd only be behind it if we as fans bought 60% of the club and we gave Abramovich or such 40%. Pretty sure he could invest after this and that wouldn't mean we'd need to equal the investment...

STF isn't in this for the money. He will be (indeed, IIRC, is on record as saying this) more interested in the plans of any new owner for the club. He bought it as a community investment, and that's the way he'll want it to continue.

I don't get this whole but look what happened to Hearts/Rangers. Hearts had a egomaniac in charge who couldn't afford the players he bought. The Rangers dodged the tax man.
Not everyone who invests in teams are crooks. That's like saying no one from abroad can invest in Hibs because of hearts and the Rangers. What about the American owners who do actually invest in teams down south and do well??

The issue though TC appears to me that football "is a results business" and by that measure Rangers are/were a roaring success, most successful football club in the world apparently, and Hearts less so but in six years equalled their trophy haul in the previous forty odd. Those clubs are a paradox that in football terms they were a success but as a business they were an absolute car crash. I know no-one is suggesting recklessness like those two, or other Scottish examples, but I don't think we will be able to agree on where the line should be drawn.

When I first read this supposed link to RA I thought don't be ridiculous. After thinking about it for a while it still sounds like a load of steaming Tom Kite though maybe not quite as mental as first appears.
Even if chelski remains his main priority, RA will be aware that he faces more competition from owners with similar or even greater wealth. His main problem then when trying to buy the finished article means he is going to have to pay astronomical sums to secure their services as the top level bidding wars become farcical.
Perhaps he sees it as a cheaper option to buy a number of 'feeder clubs' acquiring players who have that top level potential but 'polishing'' the prospects and creating his own finished articles. If that was the case then only a very small number would perhaps get to his top club but would be more than good enough for the smaller teams in smaller leagues.
If it is his plan then while advantageous to have clubs from other continents, Europe is still the football powerhouse. So a club in eastern Europe, west central Europe, southern Europe and northern Europe would make sense. The local prospects (at much cheaper prices) would all head to the feeder clubs to see if they reach the desired standard.
If this is his plan then he would still want the feeder clubs to be successful in their own sphere as this would help keep them closer to being self sufficient.
It would also be sensible to buy clubs in small/medium leagues as they will be cheaper to purchase and would not require huge sums to be successful.
This would mean Scotland as a country fits the bill.
But why Hibs? It would also be smart to buy a club that's got potential but are currently under achieving (the only way is up!). So a club with a good fanbase, but who aren't the local dominant club would also be prudent. So that would probably include Hibs, hertz, the sheep and the arabs. However we steal a march on the others as we have the infrastructure in place and wouldn't require that additional expense.
Its still pie in the sky but maybe not quite as outrageous as it initially appears.
Just a few thoughts

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/apr/01/chelsea-vitesse-arnhem-roman-abramovich
Problem with this scenario is that if one of our 'sister' clubs qualified for Europe then we might have to forego?
Will ruin European football if other owners have similar ideas but thinking of ourselves who would be happy with local success but no chance of playing in Europe (although taking the Vitesse situation we would be 'managed' into a situation where we wouldn't qualify and therefore not even have local success)
No thanks from me

I'm in Mallorca just now and the big news is AB has bought the majority share holding in Real Mallorca.
The deal was dead if Real had been relegated to the regional leagues, but they stayed up with a 0 - 0 draw yesterday.

Article also says AB wants involvement with Hibs, Tel Aviv, and Corinthians.
Only passing on the local press info.

The pandas in Edinburgh are boring, aloof and have issues in the bedroom department. Sounds like your typical hearts fan.

There must be some substance to this, while I reckon Stf will have dismissed it I reckon an enquiry might have been made

I doubt he would be looking to buy us to bank roll us to champions league glory.
He would just send us youth prospects... You know, the good ones, like Makalambay, Rocastle and Taiwo

Anything to do with this restructuring Petrie has to oversee ?
No lookin forward to being called Hibs pandas. Will they change the strips to black with white sleeves? Will the east become the panda enclosure? Bet this was part of the panda deal.
Take over a local team on the sly.

To be serious for a second ...... This does appear to have been reported in a proper newspaper and the Real Mallorca deal does appear to be ( on the surface ) genuine.
But heres the bottom line. If the procurement of Hibs by Roman Abramovich or anybody else meant that the club was barred from European competition then I would never attend another Hibs game.
Never!!!

Looks like RA ( or someone in a group with contacts with RA ) is looking all over the place ( Israel and Brasil mentioned too ) and have found Mallorca where major sharehoders are desperate to get out ( one is probably going to return as general manager of Betis something he can`t do while owning shares in a rival club ) Possible deal there would be on 1st July with Mallorca goalie retiring and taking over running of club . Hibs ? Would guess there might have been an enquiry ( like many others over the years ) or we`re being used as a potential alternative to pressurise Mallorca etc.

Bamboo sailing? Makes about as much sense to me.
Didn't Vlad have a similar idea but with the yams at the top of the pyramid, being fed by the whole of Eastern Europe?

Maybe this is a possible way of clubs getting round financial fair play restrictions. Chelsea at one stage had in excess of 20 players out on loan, realistically that situation will be hard to continue because of transfer fees and wage contributions. If these rich owners find a way to establish a group of clubs they would have more flexibility with finances and you would assume all would feed the main club any player who did come up to scratch. I'm not holding my breath for Hibs to be involved but the theory of guys like Abramovich funding a few clubs would not surprise me.

Did Vladimir Romanov not have 2 clubs in Europe?
Even if he didn't no one ever mentioned it as an issue.

ElMundo is one of the top newspapers in Spain, folk that are discrediting this information straight away should perhaps rethink. Whilst we would be incredibly lucky if this happened, the journalist must have obtained this information from somewhere. I actually have a really good feeling about this. Can't wait till we are winning cups and ramming it down the Yams throats. I couldn't care less what the consequences were if we had someone who made us the best team in Scotland.
Not caring less about consequences is what yams do. Not for me.

He won a Gareth Evans lookalike competition when he was in his early 20s, his English wasn't great back then, apparently he was only trying to put his name up to sing I will survive on the karaoke. Been a hibby ever since.
