Are there any fans of Eminem on here? I was skeptical about the MMLP2 bit it has grown on me.
Would love to know if any other .netters listened to the Slim Shady LP growing up?

I listened to eminem's first three albums and the fourth, not heard anything else since then.
Doing duets with rihanna etc.. is just terribly hypocritical and cringey.
give me pharoah monch or talib kweli ahead of him anyday.

I'm a massive Eminem fan.
The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show are absolutely fantastic albums and most of the material that he produced on them is just genius. "Stan" is one of the best songs I have ever heard.
The Encore album was nowhere near as good but was still decent, then he decided to release Relapse!
The less said about that the better!
He made a bit of a comeback with the Recovery album although that was still nowhere near his best work.
Then The Marshall Mathers LP II is getting back to near his best as I really like a lot of the content on that album.
If I had to place his albums in order, I would choose;
1-The Marshall Mathers LP
2-The Slim Shady LP
3-The Eminem Show
4-The Marshall Mathers LP II
5-Encore
6-Recovery
7-Relapse
He did release an eighth album, Infinite, but hardly anyone's heard anything on it so I can't really comment on that.
I would love to see him in concert. I had tickets to go and see him at Murrayfield back in 2005 but he cancelled it due to his health problems back then. I was gutted!

Excellent to hear some feedback on this thread!
I agree with some of your points but I loved Relapse. As he made clear on Recovery though, "Encore I was on drugs, Relapse I was pushing them out". To me, Relapse was typical Slim Shady. The song "My Mom" about Valium and Xanax makes me laugh quite a lot. "Insane" shouldn't be talked about on a family friendly thread I think. The song "Deja vu" is my favourite from the Relapse album.
Recovery for me was okay - songs like W.T.P I really didn't like but "Space bound" was great. This might sound sad but I keep every Eminem CD at the top of my CD holder. I don't think any rapper comes close to him - even Tupac.
My favourite albums in order are:
1. Marshall Mathers LP 1
2. Slim Shady LP
3. Relapse
4. Eminem Show
5. Marshall Mathers LP 2
6. Encore
7. Recovery
I bought Infinite as well but don't listen to it that often. If anyone asks me to explain why Eminem is the greatest rapper of all time I tell them to listen to White America and As the World turns.
Love all his albums - just some more than others. MMLP2 was excellent, "Bad Guy" being the stand out for me!

First 3 albums are absolutety outstanding, dare I say seminal.
Didn't really like what followed but have heard good things about Marshall Mathers II so really should seek it out.
He's outstanding live as well. Saw him at The Barrowlands with Proof in 1999, Gig on the Green in 2000 and Hampden in 2003.

I envy you. If you get the chance to hear "Bad Guy" or "Legacy" on YouTube check them out PB.

I must admit "Love the way you lie" and "The Monster" weren't synced to my Media player

I remember you saying a few months ago on another thread about how you liked his old stuff but weren't too keen on his material post-Eminem Show, which I largely agreed with.
That was around the time that the MMLP II was just getting released though so I hadn't much of a chance to comment either way on that. I have been quite impressed with it as there's a number of good tracks on there and, as I said earlier, I would say he's getting back to near his best with this album.
He'll need to go some in order to ever beat his first three albums though.

Although to be fair, I've got pretty much every Eminem song on my ipod.

I think what got me was this (and this may sound incredibly childish and envious) but, I grew up in a low-income household. Don't get me wrong, I had family and stuff but parents didn't work and that - Eminem's lyrics really hit home with me - especially the song "Rock Bottom" on the Slim Shady LP "This song is for all the happy people... all the happy people with real nice lives and have no idea what it's like to be broke as ****"
Suddenly, all the middle classes loved him - with songs like "Without Me" and "Just Lose it" which to me wasn't what drew me to Eminem in the first place.
I went off him for a while that's true but since buying the MMLP2 I've started listening to him a lot more - albums old and new.
P.S. I used to be a "classist"

Not strictly about Eminem but interesting nonethless imo.
When I was at uni I took a sociology unit for a semester for something to do. One tutorial the conversation swung around to rap and hip hop. I can't remember the exact numbers but when it came to NWA the number of albums they sold far outweighed how many it should have been possible to sell to inner city black teens and twentysomethings, the very people the music was made by and should have related to. By far and away the biggest buyers of NWA albums were middle class, white American teens who has graduated from high school. The reasons given where that it was either rich, white kids buying the albums to annoy and rebel against mummy and daddy or people trying to relate to perceived social problems they had no actual knowledge or experience of.

That sounds about right. Looking back, I would put the Marshall Mathers LP on when my mum and dad were around, sticking on track no.17 "Under the influence" just to rebel against them...

I can't claim to be from a poor background or anything like that, I just really enjoy his style of music and what he's got to say. Some of his early stuff is really dark and extremely angry. But there's just something about Eminem that I really took to.
I'm not even a massive rap fan but Eminem is a fantastic artist.

Have you heard of the British rapper Devlin? A lot of people compare him to Eminem due to songs like "Let it go" in which he vents extreme anger and aggression. I'm a big fan of his as well.

Love eminem. Not realty listened to the last couple of albums or even heard much of them but his older stuff is amazing. Lyrical genius.
If I had is an amazingly depressing song.
His lyrics about Jennifer Lopez about having a son and a new brother at the same time make me laugh even as I type!

The Columbine lyrics were censored but they were played in full on his "Rap God" track from MMLP II.

"Let's see if I get away with it now that I'm not as big as I was"?
Been listening to him all day, while playing CoD... that's as exciting as my days are but Em always puts a smile on my face.

To this day, still one of my favourite artists.
His first 3 albums were outstanding. Relapse was okay and Recovery was alot better but MMLP2 is back or at least almost back to his best. The fast rapping part in Rap God shows unbelievable talent. Probably my favourite song would be Headlights, the song about his mother in a forgiving light rather than the usual comical songs he would write about her.
Probably my order would be
Marshall Mathers LP(if it wasn't for The Way I Am, Kim and Stan, i'd probably rank this second. )
Slim Shady LP
Eminem Show
Marshall Mathers LP2
Recovery
Encore
Relapse
Infinite is hard to judge because the recording are pretty bad that I have heard but it still sounds pretty good. I'm sure the Slim Shady LP used to be an EP though and got re-done?

I saw him at Milton Keynes many moons ago and it was a fantastic show, great showman.
I don't really listen to his stuff anymore, a lot of his earlier stuff is a bit cringe (songs about his ex wife etc) but he still has some classics across his albums that I listen to. Quite liked his stuff with Rhianna too.

The EP version only had a few songs on it and most of them are contained on the LP. It can't really be described as an album though.
