I caught a bit of this. Thought it was quite a nice idea mixing the old footage with the modern BBC "live text".

Jesus, you'd think that nearly 50 years after the event the hype would decrease. Instead they're finding new ways of peddling this pi5h!

Oh yeah, I bet the Germans are still crying about this, despite having won the World Cup twice since then and having humped England out of various competitions since

About as much chance of winning it than us winning the Scottish Cup next season.

The BBC are broadcasting several classic games 'as-live'.
They will be doing the same for the 1978 Scotland v Netherlands game.

Anything to have a good whinge about England though, eh?
I missed the game, but I hope I can catch it the next time as I think it's a great idea in the build-up to the World Cup.
I was surprised at how good the quality of the 1966 footage was when I caught a snippet.

Yeh cos we never, ever mentioned beating England at Wembley in 1967, never said we were the unofficial World Champions and certainly it was kept a big secret that Jim Baxter apparently played keepie uppy with the ball during that game. Sometimes we get a wee bit precious about this, they actually won the thing, something our team will never do if we play until the sun goes super nova, sure it grates sometimes but the same competition starts again in a fortnight (without us as usual) so is it really such a crime if they dare to mention it again ?

I reckon England will get 4 points from their group. I don't mind them doing well (as I'm half English) but don't want them to win it. C'mon the Super Eagles! :flag:

You never know, Sepp and his buddies are always helpful (for the right price !!) and might once give Scotland the WC. We could then make sure all our games were at Hampden, kick our opponents off the field in the final, get lucky with the odd non-existent goal, even allow fans to invade the pitch whilst the game is still being played ??

As 1966 showed, anything is possible in the game.

England v Italy is the game I'm looking forward to. It's going to literally be a strange one; the players will feel as if they are playing in a steam room after about 5 mins. It's either going to be the most boring game ever played or the most bizarre. By contrast, England's game v Uruguay a few days later will be played in bitter winter temperatures. The dramatic and sudden change in clImate wreaks havoc with your health. It's totally baltic here right now, made worse because houses don't have carpets or any kind of heating or insulation. I'm sitting typing this under a tartan rug with the electric blanket heating up next door. Freezing. A lot of people are in for a real shock when they get here. :greengrin
