On first thoughts, one assumes that Petrie would want any new management to review who they wanted for the coming season. This would appear to be the rational thing to do. That is, unless, the wage bill is his only consideration, the priority for the clubs survival, and if so Butcher may be the best person to do the dirty work. Rather than have a fight with a new incoming boss who would be in a stronger position to resist. Butcher may well enjoy paying back anyone who pissed him off.
