Sad news. I wasn't aware he had been ill. Rest in Peace.

Might be wrong, but was he not diagnosed with some kind of cancer a while back, and then he seemed to be in remission?
Still a sad day though. RIP.

Sad to hear this...He often got on the same bus as me in the morning with John Greig. They would catch the number 26 that i travelled to school on and jump off at Haymarket to catch the train to Glasgow for training. As others have said, a true gent. R.I.P.

Gave him abuse once when he was playing Broomieknowe golf course next to the park we played football in as kids. He then proceeded to strike numerous golf balls at us at high speed!

Sad news. Lived round the corner from me when I was growing up. John Greig had his shop in Bruntsfield place 2 mins away from Sandy's house. Both decent guys.

If there is a tribute to SJ on Sunday it will be a healthy thing.

It could dampen down the furore, as it were.

A great character of the Scottish game - a more than decent football player but it was his character that made him a standout and become a stalwart for two of our great rivals AND for Scotland. I'd join in a round of applause for him on Sun if it came to that - after that (and before) get stuck intae them!

I'd like to think we were better than that as well, just don't really fancy giving some tubes the chance to prove us wrong.

Met him on a few occasions in the hospitality at Ibrox - he was ever-present in their Thornton lounge and a great ambassador for their club.

I had thought his treatment had been going well and he was on the mend - sadly not obviously.

RIP Sandy.

Met a Hibs contempory of SJ this morning and he passed this comment which I thought said a lot

" In all the years I knew him never ever heard him " dish the dirt" on any player "

A gentleman

If he had gone to Arsenal or Chelsea or whatever he would have been a big star. But they were different days. I think he once said Arthur Duncan was the toughest winger to mark because of his pace.

No, but he was a former player for our opponents, a Scotland International and an Edinburgh man.
A mark of respect before the match to Sandy Jardine would be wholly appropriate.

Only to be expected, surely, as he was a former Hearts man.

Sandy Jardine presented my first ever trophy to me in 1980. I had won player of the year for Musselburgh Windsor U11's and the things he said to me that day and advice he gave stuck with me throughout my life. Looking back on it he was a total gent and I'm sure will be sadly missed by his family, friends and everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Some modern day players would do well to take a leaf out his book regarding how they go about there business.... RIP Sandy...

Can't believe those who say that a mark of respect for Sandy Jardine wouldn't be appropriate.

Edinburgh man, great player who played for Scotland and Hearts and his son was a good Hibs lad.

RIP Sandy Jardine

I never met Sandy Jardine but my overriding memory of him is tarnished by the incident with Bobby Thompson when he feigned injury. Which is a pity as he was a good player and appears to be have been a decent guy from what people say.

No disrespect intended, but I'm against the idea of minutes of silence/applause for ex footballers who had no link to Hibs. Why Sandy Jardine and not someone else? Who decides and where do we draw the line? In this case Hearts and The Rangers should hold tributes at their next home matches should they so wish.

With that said, RIP Sandy.
