Anyone know when they're supposed to start running to the airport?
From York Place?

Next month.
Next month.
Do you know what date FR?
I'm on my travels again and it might be an option on the way home.
I have looked at the official website but from that you'd think they were running now, but that's been the pretendy way it's been for ages.

I know someone who's got a job on them and last time I asked he said it was end of May
I'll ask again

Was speaking to a guy involved in the project last week who said they don't have an exact date but its expected to be towards the end of next month. The current testing is getting the drivers the required number of hours before they can be licenced to carry passengers.

Can't see how the tram is any better than the service 100.
They look good, but they don't actually serve anywhere.

Extensive testing just now. I live near the route and they seem to be running almost to the 12 min or so timetable, so can't be long now

I agree, and living near Leith Walk had to put up with years of disruption for no benefit. In fact I just got a note through my door yesterday that the council will be starting the repairs shortly so even more disruption for another couple of years and then a car unfriendly area at the end of it instead of a tram.
Still, like the yams, they're nearly half here, so we might as well get used to it. All the trams need are a couple of big ears at either end and it will look like a proper tourist attraction, vanity, Micky Mouse project
Days late = 1,121.

:agree: I use the 100 service everyday to and from the city centre, excellent service, though I did miss my stop at the Maybury last night and ended up at Airport, I think Old Rosie was to blame :greengrin

Was it not reported a while back that the trams will cost more and take longer than the 100 service?

It will take longer but I read the trams will be the same price as normal buses.

****sake 3/4 of a billion quid to not even match an adequate existing service.

Will take longer but the frequency of the 100 service will be reduced, the 100 service recently increased it prices to the Airport in preparation so it can price match the tram!

They could've just extended the 22 to the airport and it would've saved a fortune.

There's already two Lothian buses that go to the airport.

Thats all it is. A wee train to take tourists along Princes street, and to Murrayfield.
should have gone for a monorail.

Indeed, but the tram route is almost the same as the 22s route.

I don't think people should conflate the shambles that was the procurement / contracting and 'delivery' of the project with having trams themselves.
Having been in Dublin in the middle of the first phase of their trams years ago all the same issues with road works and concern about long term viability was there (they did have more efficient contractors) they have very quickly moved on and are extending for a second time..
I think that one the speed / priority / numbers carried per unit journey /reduction pollution etc are taken into accounbt the pain of getting there will like Dublin be forgotten and we will go on to extend and grow the network - Edinburgh is area wise a small capital and space premium will me this will become a growth imperitive....
Lets hope that the contractors / procurement (scottish gov rather than Edin) / contractors like we have on Forth Crossing are chosen where its on budget and ahead of schedule and is causing minimum disruption given the scale of works

Fare prices
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-27394365
A return ticket between the city centre and Edinburgh Airport will cost £8. The price is 50p more than expected and £1 more than the airport bus.
Single journeys to the airport will cost £5.
A flat fare of £1.50 will apply for all journeys which do not start or end at the airport. Edinburgh's new trams will carry their first paying passengers on Saturday 31 May.
the flat fare seems fair, haven't been on an Edinburgh bus for 10+ years so haven't a clue how much the bus is at present

Bus flat fare is £1.50, surprised to see that the airport bus frequency is increasing from 10 mins to 8 mins so good news for me as I was told it would be less frequent once the tram started.
The cheapest way for both tram and bus is a Ridacard brilliant value.
