I've just had a Whatsapp convo and subsequently booked a weekend break for a Real Madrid football player, who is a client that my boss usually deals with but the bugger went on holiday for 2 weeks so it fell into my lap.

Anyway, got me thinking, me is the most famous person you've ever interacted with in a vaguely meaningful fashion?? (i.e. I don't mean saw/shouted "I love you" to whilst on holiday). I'm looking after the travel arrangements of a couple of other Bundesliga players, but no-one that well known.

Which .netter regularly mixes with the "A" list?? Could be fun....................:greengrin

Through work I've spoken to a famous Scottish comedian who gets in trouble lots, a member of JLS, a tiara wearing Pop star who played at Easter Road, a famous TV hypnotist who could do with anger management lessons to be honest, the inventor of the best hoovers/hand drier on the market, a few politicians and Shaun Dennis

Met a lot of boxers over the years such as Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Marvin Hagler, Prince Naseem, Ricky Hatton and the Greatest himself, Mohammed Ali.

Met a lot of musicians, mostly from when I ran a gig venue, but some just from doing a bit of stalking such as Depeche Mode (obviously) Jim Kerr, Rod Stewart, Ocean Colour Scene, Gil Scot Herron, Mark E Smith, Candi Staton, Crowded House, A-Ha, Gary Numan. Creepiest being The Lostprophets including the sicko lead singer.

Loads of footballers a few TV celebs from running various clubs. Anyone working in Edinburgh City centre bars will have served some celebs at some point during the Festival.

Several of the scientists I regularly work with are a frequent presence on BBC programmes that aim to bring science to the wider public audience...I also work beside a former British gold medal winning Olympic athlete :greengrin

I also once found Rory McIlroy's ball during a frantic search as time was running out before he was penalised - he gave me his spare ball and a glove as a thank you! :greengrin

Interesting way to put it...

I once met them after a gig in Edinburgh, as they came into a very quiet pub not too far from the venue about an hour after they came off stage and they were perfectly normal and pleasant guys.

Granted, Ian Watkins wasn't anywhere to be seen...this was in 2012, not too long before he was arrested so I hate to think why he wasn't there.

I should say that I mean it's creepy now looking back on it. They seemed pretty unremarkable from what I remember although Watkins DJ'd at the after show party so didn't have much to do with him.

A few years ago in the cab I got a job where I was to pick up someone from the stage door of the festival theatre and take him to the Scotsman hotel. The only thing I thought was that it's a crap job.
I drove up to the door and there was about fifty people there waiting for some reason. I just sat there waiting too, in a bit of a daydream until one of them chapped on the window and asked who I was picking up. I looked at the screen and the job said "May".

"Mr. May, so maybe it's Eddie" I Said. Has to be the worst reaction to a joke I've ever had and I've never seen so many people with a "what the **** are you talking about" look on their face at the one time.

It was Brian May and he was there because of his musical. He was sound and about seven feet tall.:greengrin

As cabbie I've met a few pretty famous people, particularly during the festival. Prior to driving cabs I worked in the bar trade, particularly in a pub called Marr's Bar, we used to get quite a few from from the Radio Scotland building in Queen St, which is now the Jam House.
My most famous story is when I met and got merrily drunk with Robert Palmer after his gig in Edinburgh, he was in Buster Browns and I was introduced to him by a friend, he invited me into his company and we drank the night away. :greengrin

The most important famous person I've met is Joe Strummer. One of the best moments of my like as we sat and had a beer together for about half an hour chatting away. It was only about 5 weeks before he died.

My friend Mary, on the other hand, has great stories. She's originally from New York. When she was very young her Dad was in the USAF and it was common for returning POWs from Vietnam to be greeted by a child with flowers. She did this and the POW was John McCain. Later after her parents split her Mum went out with Al Pacino for a summer and she spent most of the time with Al and his friend, who it turned out was Robert De Niro. Working in the theatre in 1980s New York she also met Madonna (she says she was a twat), Andy Warhol (she says he was a weirdo) and Martin Sheen (he is apparently lovely).

Sean Connery at the opening of the Scottish Parliament, was there representing school for reasons I can't remember and he met a few of us.

Met quite a few TV presenters in my current roles when they are filming in Edinburgh, usually presenters of the Antiques Roadshow for some reason.

Oh and Nicole Kidman last year, she was lovely. A week later I had to deal with 1 hit wonder Sandi Thom who was a total ****ing diva.

A really nice guy, he only said he "worked in television". He was all ears, and we had a really good chat on the way in from the airport. I guess that's how these guys get their local knowledge when they are doing a gig.

My first job on leaving school was working at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground in Nottingham. Being a Test Match venue you'd get to meet some legendary players and I spoke to the likes of Garry Sobers, Clive Lloyd, Geoff Boycott, Ian Botham, Viv Richards, Colin Cowdrey and so on, too many to mention.

During the Tests in particular there's be a fair smattering of celebrities taking in the occasion. One of the best known I met was John Le Mesurier of Dads Army, Sgt Wilson fame. He was pretty much Sgt Wilson too, crevate, blazer and all - a true gent who was kind enough to have a good chat with this 16 year-old whippersnapper. I almost expected him to come out with 'I say, do you think that's wise?'

I met former Scotland international, John Robertson one time. (The great one that played for Forest under Clough). Visiting my brother-in-law's garage he stated that there was someone out the back I might like to meet. Robbo was filling in time delivering cars whilst in between jobs so I was pretty staggered when I saw him standing there. You have to understand that he has pretty well legendary status in Nottingham and is part of local football folklore here being a double European Cup winner. I had quite a few questions for him and we had a really good chat. A great and very ordinary guy. The first one that came to mind was 'What was it like scoring the winning goal against England at Wembley?'! He told me too! :greengrin

I used to see another former Scotland international, Dave Mackay, in one of the local village pubs here and he was always a friendly character. In the same pub I'd occasionally bump into former Celtic player and Notts County manager, Jimmy Sirrel. Jimmy wasn't perhaps well-known out of football circles but again, was a legend in Nottingham and in the game. He was also great pals with one Alex Ferguson too. I was lucky enough to have a few drinks and a couple of hours of his time one summer afternoon and he related some great stories about football characters such as Gordon Strachan, Alex Ferguson, Herbert Chapman etc., some of which are detailed in the blog below

Through a lot of my media work I know a lot of footballers and managers - some who have surprised me with how nice they are. I've also spoken to the likes of Gary McAllister, Alex McLeish etc when they are working at matches and ex-footballers too. When I was studying at university I arranged interviews with a fair few minor celebrities in the music business. I also used to do bits and pieces with a political party, so I ended up meeting most of the major players in Scottish politics, some bigger names also came to visit such as Paddy Ashdown - who was an absolute gentleman.

Working in bars as well has introduced me to many famous people, I remember Ed Byrne coming in to do a guest slot at a comedy show in a bar I worked in and another time John Malkovich came in. I've also served Paul Robinson, the former England international goalkeeper. He was up for a quiet weekend with two of his friends and a stag group noticed him, he actually ended up buying them a round which was 18 pints of Peroni! Mind you that's like sweetie money to him :greengrin

There are other stories relating to the bars, Anthony Stokes came in with his uncle once and left as soon as he was outed for being Anthony Stokes. He recognised me when I was working at a game, which was nice of him and very surprising.

And no, there have been no famous people that I've ****ged. Most of them are non-entities from the dancefloor in Hive

As a teenager I met the queen and other royal family members at Holyrood Palace as a representative of a youth organisation. One of our group would have pulled Pricess Anne if the royal minders hadn't stepped in to usher her away.

When I was a nipper I met Jock Stein. My dad, a teacher, arranged for him to come and talk to the sixth form chaps about management. This was pretty go ahead stuff for the 60s. I of course was completely in awe and just thrust out my Hibs v R Madrid programme for him to sign. I was only 13. He was a big broad shouldered bloke! Best football manager ever. Players would walk through walls for him.

Pat has told me off for not wearing a jacket when it was windy and I was working with him! Every time I see him, even though I have worked with him three times now, I am in awe. He was my one of my granddad's favourite players, I told him this the first time I met him, and he seemed genuinely taken aback and asked if I wanted to give my granddad something signed. Unfortunately my granddad passed away when I was very young and I said that I never got a chance to talk to him about Hibs players and teams that he watched.

That is when Sir Patrick said "well I'm not your granddad, but I know a lot about old players being one!" and he took a bit of time out to have a wee chat with me, only 10 minutes as we were both working, speaking mainly about the cup final as my granddad is in a famous photo where Pat is lifting the trophy. He always remembers me now whenever we are working together doing any press work, he is a lovely, lovely guy.

Met quite a few famous people over last 10 yrs or so from all diff areas . Tv .film .sport etc .
Top three for me has to be :
Worked on the g20 summit in london few years back and was in the meeting rooms of few diff world leaders , the rooms I had was hilary clinton and bellisconi . The mexican president and south african (cant remember their names ) , but biggest room I was put in was obama and the king of saudi ! Was most mental job I been on yet . All of them shook my hand and said hi was very weird .I got obamas and king of saudis ciggarette butt and cigar butt out of ash tray after they left lol still got them in house they were only two allowed to smoke inside lol .
A few years back I was working on the celtic vs barcalona champions league game and was packing kit up after pitchside interview and heard the crowd making the wooooo noise looked up and the ball came flying toward me , I stoped it and looked up and Ronaldinho shouted pass the ball ! So I did lol and promptly phoned all my mates to say so hehe
And finally was working on a film two years back and rigging a supermarket and was up a set of ladders and a voice behind me said "hey buddy do you mind clearing the set while we walk round " in a familiar american accent . Was brad pitt . I said yep no problem mate lol a wee bit star struck hehe .
Pretty lucky with my job to be honest there are quite a few more over last few years on other jobs , those three stand out for me off top of my head .
Oh the full man utd team was another beauty which was one of the funniest which I have mentioned on a diff thread .on a diff commercial we turned up two days in a row and did nothing because ronaldo couldnt be bothered and his girlfriend wanted to go shopping , he turned up day three and must have cost the company god knows how much !!!! But nothing was said lol not to him anyway the top people just hovered round him like flies round **** was hard to watch lol mind you I got paid for doing **** all !

Not me personally but my mate got to know an X Factor finalist quite intimately whilst we were on holiday.

When I was younger, one of my mates had a 'holiday thing' with someone we only knew as "Jasper Carrot's daughter" at the time.

I bore the wife with that tale every time The Office is on Gold.

I did some work for Kwik fit at the old head office on corstorphine road and STF kept making me tea!

Similarly was out at the gyle and David Murray seemed quite friendly, he made sure his PA kept the tea/buns coming!

Was out at hopetoun house one time and the lass on reception gave us tea and biscuits then came haring into the room to take the evidence away 'cause the pieman had arrived, found after he'd gone that apparently he didn't want people doing jobs for him to get tea/coffee etc as it wasted time getting jobs done.

The absolute worst was FTB.... When he moved into his new house at the Barnton he didn't like the kitchen and bathroom suites/taps etc. I was there for something different but he had the guys removing all the new gear and replacing it with what he preferred, as I left, the baths etc were all lined up in a corner (still had that blue protective paper on).

Next morning, I arrived to find the labourers hitting the baths and toilets with mash hammers and putting the remains in the skip, the kitchen units and bath taps etc were stuck on the bonfire...... One of the guys said FTB had come out and ordered them to wreck everything as he didn't want anyone to take stuff away. I still can't get over the mentality... Ok maybe he was that rich that it wasn't worth him taking a few quid of anyone who wanted something but surely either a donation to charity or even give the stuff to somewhere that could use it to help people in need?

Sorry meant to add at the end.

Diana vickers.
Jammy *******.

Not famous at all but met Joel Stoker from The Rifles (my favourite band, and criminally underrated) in October after they'd played Haddowfest walking along Princes Street. I'd just been kicked out of Hive for being out my tits so the meeting is pretty hazy but he was brand new, he recognised us from the gig and chatted away for a bit.

Seen them in Newcastle on Wednesday and again he must've recognised me and my pal and mentioned something about the 'Edinburgh Contingent'. Top man.

I had a few meetings with John Kluge who, at the time, was reputed to be the richest man in America. His wife Patricia (a former belly dancer 30 years his junior) was desperate to be pally with British royalty so they bought Mar Lodge, a 100 square mile estate which neighbours Balmoral. Whilst we were surveying the 60 (sixty) bedroomed house, we received an informal visit from Prince Charles. He was very natural, posed sensible questions and didn't appear to like all the things that the Kluges wanted to do to the place. We were with him and his bodyguards (not to be messed with) for about 40 minutes.

Which reminds me of Malcolm Rifkind, who was our local MP and was at my folks' place a few times to meet with my mum on community business. Maybe no big deal but a couple of times when he was the defence secretary I arrived home to be met by an armed guard in my lobby.

I've met and had scoops with a lot of well known (in relatively small circles) folkie people, and have played a couple of concerts with Runrig (A-list or what?).

Since moving to Brittany I've come to know Alan Stivell (4m+ album sales) with whom I had the luck to play a concert at the Olympia in Paris a couple of years ago. Also present was Nolwenn Leroy who was the top selling artist in France in 2011 and, it has to be said, is in real danger of disappearing up her own, overrated arse.

By far the most interesting "famous" acquaintance I've made is a guy known as Loran Béru. He was the head of Bérurier Noir, a punk group who were massive in France in the 80s. He's still 100% punk and an out and out anarchist (so we don't agree on everything) but he's one of the most switched on, interesting people I've met. I've also done a few concerts with his current group the "Ramoneurs de Menhirs".

I nearly played football against dan carter in christchurch in 2006. He turned out for his old team nomads the week before we played them and there was talk of him playing against us too but it didn't happen. Unbelievable though that the captain of the all blacks would turn out in basically a pub league football game. Can't imagine it would have gone down very well with the rugby coaches if he'd been injured. Richie McCaw lived along the road from me in Sumner.
