Just heard about the little girl in liberation. Heart goes out to you little one, seriously shocking news. Condolences to the family ⭐️
Horrendous thing to happen. I thought things like this are the reason schools are surveyed etc?

It is a real shame. Unfortunately even when I was there that old gym area had been falling to pieces for a long time , they created a new gym building yet still continued to use the old gym area

I'm led to believe that the incident occurred within the old changing rooms, according to a young girl in the evening news online, there was a loose wall that moved when pushed and 'had been like that for months'. Its an absolute tragedy, thoughts with the family and friends at this terrible time.

Yeah absolute tragedy for the wee girl and her family. My boy attends the school, all pupils have been sent home. Apparently it was a tiled wall in the old gym hall that collapsed on her, so sad and heartbreaking. Thoughts are with her family.

What an awful thing to happen. All children should be safe in school. That poor family will be going through hell. RIP

Tell that to the parents of children who go to PHS - and the Council's lawyers.

RIP

Horible news. RIP to the wee one.

My son goes to that school and he says its falling to pieces, they have already been fined for the incident last year with the wee lassie falling down the lift shaft as well.

This is an accident that should never happen in a school. Its ridiculous that the building was falling apart and they still made children use it.

My sincerest condolences to the childs family and friends. I hope the people responsible for the decision to continue using that gym are held fully accountable for this.

So sad, thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends and the school community. Second tragedy to hit the school in a few months after the death of Jamie Skinner. My son goes there and my wife works there. I'm going to pick her up there shortly, she sounds totally drained. It'll be a somber house tonight, but nowhere near as sad as others. :(

I think parents will be hugging their children and spouses that work there a little tighter tonight.

I hope the other children who witnessed this awful event can all overcome the trauma of it. It really is brutal.

In a so called civilized country, bairns should not be going to schools where walls fall down.

What an absolutely scandalous tragedy this is. Heart goes out to the girl and her family and when the inital grieving phase etc is over, I hope the media and - if they - emotionally - have it left in them - the family go after those accountable for the upkeep of Liberton High School and roast them over the coals.

Is it just me or is it pretty damning on a succession of Edinburgh councils that it takes a tragedy before schools being comprehensively checked and that they're finding walls that need cordoned off and/or knocked down?

I also find it a bit distasteful that the current council are trying to spin the reactive checks as positive action.

Our city has been run by incompetents and worse for a long time. The council PR dept is in overdrive if the email I received from the education dept. today is anything to go by.
