Just read this (http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/spfl/hearts-derby-draw-spares-relegation-for-a-few-days-1-3357768) article about a game in 1977 where Hibs could have relegated Hearts by winning at Tynecastle. I wonder if history will repeat itself or will there be a more 'positive' result this time.

Incidentally, anybody on here actually at that game? Probably unlikely, as the attendance was ridiculously low.

As now, we needed them too much to let them go. :faf:

Yeah I was there, I can't recall it being Jimmy Brown who scored the equaliser but I remember someone a mile offside.

Our crowds were terrible towards the end of that season, the fans were realising that we were getting nowhere fast. That was the season we drew about half our games I think.

Surprised we didn't thrash them considering the height of their goalkeeper.

Remember it like it was yesterday. Thing that stuck in my mind wasn't the football though. I was sat upstairs at the front of the bus when a group of Jambos sat at the back got off the bus at Haymarket and battered a man in front of his wee boy for wearing Hibs colours. That's when I really realised I hate them.

What year was it the last time they were relegated?
Can always remember them being a yoyo club.

They were relegated in 1977, 1979 & 1981. They stayed down the last time for two seasons.

Because Hibs were relegated in 1980, that meant four season in a row without a single league derby.

The crowd is given as 10,686 in the Scotsman article ("Big Team"?). Yaks equaliser in the last minute a mile offside, linesman has got his flag up, yet referee Mr Gordon waves play on and they score. Some things never change.

I remember being at that game, Jim Brown was so far off side for the equaliser that he could've ran from behind me on the terracing!!!

The rendition of we'll meet again and all the waving was brilliant, it was just a pity the Merricks resurfaced a couple of seasons later. Hopefully this time they'll be gone for good.

They went down in 76/77, came straight back up, went down again in 78/79, back up in 79/80, down in 80/81 when we went up, didn't get promoted in 81/82 then came up in 82/83. I think that meant there were no league derbies between April 1979 and August 1983.

Edit: Sorry, Keekaboo has just just comfirmed that!

I remember well going to school in '82 the day after the midweek game when Motherwell pumped them 0-4 at Tynie to keep them down. The token yam in the class got pelters.

Coins thrown at Mercer by the disgruntled yams after the game. Happy days.

If both games are drawn they won't be relegated, yet. 21 points behind with 21 to play for.

May be the same game, we were in the chippy at Haymarket when we saw about 6 or 7 jambos attacking a lone hibby. 4 of us ran out to help him and funnily enough they weren't as hard when the numbers evened up. **** the lot of them, the sooner they die the better.

I was playing at Saughton Park that night and three of us went into the Hibs end just in time to see that equaliser.....

I love that phrase 'the ball studiously ignored the empty net' - you wouldn't get that in the Hootsmon these days.
