Hi All I don't usually post but my son and SKY are raving about Rooney's goal (which was great) and about Beckam's years ago. I've told my son about a Peter Cormack goal that was just as good. I can't remember who it was against and whether it was on TV. My son thinks I'm havering. Can anyone help.

There's obviously luck involved but to attempt that and execute it so well is still very special.

Goalkeeper error or not? To me, keeper definitely could have done better

Beckham's was better. Sullivan couldn't have stopped Beckham's, but the keeper tonight should have saved Rooney's.

From the camera on halfway I thought the ball moved in the air. Problem was that the keeper was too busy looking where he was going to look at the ball so ended up at the wrong post.

What bright spark at the BBC thought it would be a good idea to put Russell Brand on MOTD?

I'm not wanting to take anything away from the goal tonight. Great vision and technique by Rooney. The keeper, though, has totally misjudged it, he shouldn't be that far away from it when it bounces. If a keeper plays a long clearance and an opposing defender watches it for 80 yards, they're never that far away from it.

Yep it's certainly up there.

Cracking hit.

Yaya Toure's third goal wasn't bad either.

If it's the one I think it was, it was early-season 1967 or 1968, against Dunfermline at ER. Hibs were 1-0 up from an OG by Roy Barry - Barry had played the ball back to the keeper (Bent Martin, a Dane) not realising the keeper had come out for it. Later in the half Peter got the ball almost on the halfway line and spotted Martin well off his line again, so he lobbed him, just like that, perfect pace, perfect placement from (I would guess) 50-55 yards. IIRC he was very close to the Main Stand touchline, just inside the Hibs half.

It wasn't on TV - in those days we only got on TV when we were playing the OF or Hearts.

Thanks I have shown this to my son. It's a relief to know someone actually understood what I was on about. Probably why I don't post.

That Dunfermline game was my first. I remember the goal well and mentioned it to Peter Cormack recently and he remembered it.
I recently found the programme in a shop.
Tiny Wharton was the ref.
Been hooked ever since.
My next game was the following month v Naples.
Bit different from yesterday

I remember it well as I was in the east terracing that day. It was a cracking goal. One of those shots that you know is going in as soon as it leaves the player's boot.

I seem to remember the Dunfermline goalkeeper cleared the ball from edge of box to Peter who was standing inside the centre circle and he first timed it over his head. Could be memory playing tricks though.

I remember playing at Leith Links for the Dirty Windaes pub in a bounce match with a number if former Hibs Players in both teams. Jimmy O'Rourke was playing in our side and Stan Vincent was in goals for the other.

Anyway, the ball broke on the half way line and I saw Vincent on the 18 yard line and I chipped him (blootered) to score. The centre half said to Jimmy that it was lucky and Vincent was only 5ft 5! The next statement made me feel like Pele! Jimmy said to the centre half he was talking crap because I had to see the chance to take it and that it was a great goal.

Nae cameras though! Didn't need them cos a hero had said what he said!

The goalie looked at fault for me, Bekchams was better. Still a great strike by Rooney though. For me Matty Taylor's beats them both for Pompey, closer in but what a hit!

Early 90's, the guy behind the bar was an ex Hibs player from the 50's. I think. Any idea who that would have been? I have been trying to remember for years, my memories of time spent in there are a bit blurred. :greengrin

Brilliant hit by Taylor, he scored a few like this, there was one against Stoke which was about the same distance out.
