Stevenage is the arm pit of the universe - FACT!

I lived there for a year, and I can confirm this. It's like Motherwell without the redeeming cultural features.

The town centre, the TOWN CENTRE of Stevenage is a Mecca Bingo and a Wetherspoons facing onto a bus station. Christ.

Hemel Hempstead will give Stevenage a run for its money...that's if there was any money in Hemel in the first place.

But it has the magic roundabouts ;)

Although none are as impressive/off-the-wall mental (delete as appropriate) as the Plough in Hemel, Stevenage has a fantastic roundabout quotient: it was originally designed to have no traffic lights at all, so virtually every junction is a roundabout.

Welcome to Harlow and/or Milton Keynes - those poor residential folks have to replace their driver-side tyres every few weeks.

Surreal places - but Hemel really should be twinned with Homs.

It's grim down south.

As a resident of Saffron Walden for 10 years, it's not all bad.

If you've not been - get yourself to the Tickell Arms in Whittlesford....

...you can afford it

The good thing about Harlow is/was its fancy dress shop - the only place to get a 2 man horse costume near Stevenage.
Hemel also has/had a mega laser quest - I was on a project with the RAF - note to any takers the RAF at laser quest are demons!

That's very funny...... although there are a few West Lothian towns which could be candidates for twinning rights with Homs

Never liked Stevenage after the League 2 play offs. Total anti footballing side.

Glad to hear the town is as unattractive as the team.

Livingston was the same, was part of the council's remit for decades that they were not allowed traffic lights at all, hence all the roundabouts and underpasses.

once it changed to fall under west Lothian council's remit, traffic lights are as common as the roundabouts now :bitchy:

Here's where the photo is actually from - Gloucester City's Meadow Park in 2007: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/gloucestershire/6923701.stm

It's so flat around here that if the water was really that high in Stevenage, it would be lapping at my door in Cambridge.

Worked in Stebenage for many years (though not for nearly 20), though lived in the nearby paradise of Luton. Had many a good night in the old town, the best part being making it home without being attacked! Hitchin is / was a lot better.

:agree:The respective populations should meet somewhere like Hatfield and bare knuckle fight each other to the death for the title, as a gambling man my money would be on a "lady" from Stevenage to be the last man standing.:greengrin
