For me it's the sponsor that's the problem. It's too big. The red looks awful and we will have the same problem as last year that it will peel off after a few washes or if you iron it. To me we should have learned after last year.
It's a pitty that the idea is good but the final product is god awful.
Fingers crossed for a nice away top
Think the top is ok. Not sure about the white shorts, black socks and sponsors logo. Bottom line is those that will buy it will do. The FF idea is a good one however should have been a copy of the top that they wore when playing.
I don't get this either, bringing out a top from when they were born makes little sense, surely a top from the early 50's when they were winning leagues and playing in the European cup would've made more sense.

of course it's who puts on the strip that counts, but to give ourselves the best chance of recruiting a high calibre of player to put on that strip in the first place we should be releasing strips that can generate the most income, and that is not one of them.
So realistically, what your saying is whatever budget Stubbs has been given will now be snatched away from him cos a few folk dont like the strip.
I agree, it looks like its been designed by Helen Keller, But im not going to cry about it. I'll buy it regardless, as i do every season and hope that the away strip is a bit nicer.
I think the fact that Hibs might be going with the cheaper option of strip/template shows that they might at last be willing to spend a bit on the team.
If we get beat of Livvy in our first game will it be the strips fault?

no, I'm not saying it will be 'snatched away' I'm saying it will be reduced. in a time when LD has came out and said that they're keeping season ticket prices as they are as we need all the money we can get, why then turn round with this shambles of an effort which is evidently going to result in reduced sales and less revenue?

Folk saying "it's only a top" and "drama queens" you are totally missing the point here.
Hibs put out the new strips so fans buy them and the money goes to the team. They really have gone with the cheapest option here and it could have a big effect on our budget.
We are struggling to sell season tickets right now and are way below what we should be selling. This was a real opportunity to do this right and bring out a top that will sell very well.
Instead it's a Sunday league template that if you buy in bulk get for £8 a top. The sponsor looks like it'll peel right off and to top it all, they have the cheek to pass it off as a tribute top!!! WTF?
So if that's me being a drama queen I'm sorry, I just want the best for Hibs and this is far from it.
The players could peel them off as part of an elaborate celebration after scoring a goal and stick them on the corner flag.

People are getting too caught up with the small things.
It is not the shirt/strip that counts, it is who is in it. Do I like it, no...not really. However, I can see the sense in the club saying "right, we need to get a cheaper shirt option in order to invest funds in players". That's also why we now have sponsor on front and back of strip now.
We need as much income without expenditure at the moment. I feel sorry for Leeann because if we hadn't been relegated and if she wasn't coming in during one of the darkest days of the club and superceeding Rod then much of what she is trying to do would be seen as a good move.
Now, the true outrage would be if we get substandard players in. That would be a travesty. Not ST prices, not the kit, not anything else. If we get poor players in after these events then the red mist will descend for many.
Stubbs, Craig and Leeann must get the best players and build a strong team. Then the shirt and ST prices will become a thing of the past.
Excellent strip/kit with terrible players, would this make people happy?

It's not simply about purchasing the strip though as a supporter is it - it's about the Hibs brand as a whole and this demeans and cheapens it even further as almost 90% of people on here seem to agree. If you can't see the marketing and therefore potential revenue disaster that this is, allied to the season ticket announcement yesterday, then your vision must be pretty short-sighted (probably why you seem content with the strip for one).

So lets get our facts right then, Whats obvious here is Hibs have gone with a cheaper template of strip thus straight away saving the club money, How can you honestly sit there and predict the finances of our club? because a few folk on here and the 12 year olds on facebook that sit at home talking to pretend agents and dreaming up transfer rumours dont like it doesnt mean everyone feels the same does it? its the same when any club brings out a new strip, folk like it, folk dont. Voice your opinion if its that important to you and move on, its done now. They are hardly going to recall it and design a new one cos a few folk arent that keen on it.

Ladies and Gents, how many times has this got to be said.
Hibernian Football Club will make very little from the sale of anything from the shop, THEY SOLD THE RIGHTS TO THAT BEFORE THE START OF LAST SEASON.
Yes, they will probably get a small percentage from any sale but it's not going to make any huge difference revenue wise.

Terrible. This is by far the worst Hibs strip ever. It's bad enough that we have been relegated and have been in a mess for years, but now they go and change our strip into that? Absolutely appalling.
Besides taking away the white sleeves, which is an absolute no-no, the whole style looks cheap and badly designed. It feels like it isn't Hibs anymore.
I feel even more depressed now!

Hate it. That's no Hibernian kit. That's just whatever ***** that was left over in the Nike stock room that was close enough to green that Hibs have had to take. Then, like the 'down the slope' kit, they've made up some cheap story to go along with it to try and justify the fact that we've been given some random shirt that was never made with Hibs in mind.
I'll probably get it in May when it's a Fiver but only to chuck in the cupboard with the rest of the collection

Going for a cheaper template doesn't save Hibs any money, Just Sport give the club the kitroom stock as part of the deal and then they sell and make profit on the shirts and other merchandise through the club store they run and we get a fixed amount up front, the only people saving money are Just Sport who buy the kits from Nike before slapping our badge and sponsor logo's on them

And regarding the kit itself:
Idea = excellent
End product = very poor, looks cheap (not surprising as it's an £8 jersey) shorts appear to just be last seasons again and socks need some form of green in them to tie in with rest of the kit, and making it a Famous 5 tribute strip is just puzzling as common sense would be that a reproduction of a kit they wore would have been a better idea, for a 1 off no white sleeves wouldn't bother me but for this 'tribute' it is just weird
very poor and it appears it will be another PR own goal from Hibs yet again

I wonder if they did any research into this before deciding on it...maybe a few focus groups....something...anything to get feedback on how well it would go down..
Seems we're left with a god awful home strip (yeah its only a year), but **** me, its more than "just a strip"....the green and white its part of our brand.
Also, just cos the yams did a tribute strip to their war dead, doesn't mean we have to follow suit with one to the famous five !....can just see the "marketing team" burning the midnight oil to come up with that beauty...

As I said it's more than that, it's just another part of demeaning and lessening the Hibs brand which I do find embarrassing. Anyway, I'll calm my jets now as there's sod all I can do about the decision...but; I find the marketing pitch that goes with it almost insulting. To my mind it's nothing more than a straightforward attempt to hoodwink supporters into buying rubbish through a tenuous link to the Famous Five (seriously is a 6 year period during which they were born the best we could do to honour these men??)! This is a retro-fit marketing strategy in all its making based on wanting to buy cheap and sell high. I'm done (honest).

Nothing to get our shirt in a knot about, but it is unusual to honour year of birth, year of death possibly, but years of glory would seem the most appropriate. For most of us the white sleeves were Hibs to us and were for many years unique to Hibs in Scotland.

That only works if people buy it. Cheap production costs giving a **** strip will mean loads of sunk costs that Hibs can't recoup.
I want Hibs to sell out because supply can't keep up with the insatiable demand due to launching a classic kit. Not for the club to be selling them off for a tenner come April next year.

Don't like this all green top at all, as for the black socks....... I wouldn't like it any time to be fair (I've always thought our white sleeves were really smart, and the strip worn by Stanton & Co was part of the reason I fell in love with and started to support Hibs as a 6 year old) but the timing of this seems wrong. Dunno about anyone else, but I'm still recovering after last season's debacle and am nervous about the coming season. I understand the time period it's from and what the club are trying to say, but this does not evoke any memories of the famous 5 for me at all.

I wonder what that wiley old wind up merchant petrie and his new evil sidekick leanne will come up with next. I bet they are dancing round the cauldron dreaming up the next big wind up.
Aye, cause I clearly said that it "was" intentional. Read again. :coffee:
No.
Actually take a step back from the situation and think about it. The strip isn't great. That means "the club" are trying to take the piss. Just think about it for a few seconds and realise what a load of nonsense that is.
1)The strip isn't great, it's awful.
2)They're charging full whack for ST's (and no doubt for the shoddy strip as well).
3)The club done the spectacular and got us relegated when we had a wonderful chance to stick it to our rivals for a change.
4)They've flogged off our youth players to keep a training centre open thats apparently worth it because its producing high quality youth players?????
5)Fans are being told to have patience. (yet again)
6)Somehow, Petrie still lurks in the background.
Intended (or not). Fans are beginning to feel a little wound up, wouldn't you agree?

If they club had released this months ago, just said there's your kit and been done with it I would've been quite happy, kits don't bother me anyway.
But it's the fact they waited until July, banned all photos from being leaked told people to be quiet about how it looks so they could exclusively reveal it, And give us all some Story about commemorating the famous five, just to hide the fact they've bought an £8 top and put no thought whatsoever into it.
Ps, they're banning anyone who doesn't like it from their twitter page, well done, Hibs, well ****ing done.

The people behind branding Hibs need shot. Be it TBGWA, this strip, which is an embarrassment to the 5's memory, arrogantly selling season tickets in March, months early when the previous campaign was in full swing, to constantly hyping up games and expectations with long forgotten photos of flag waving fans, rather than excellent players and games.
It is time for this club to get back to basics and traditional values. They need to earn the Edinburgh (and beyond) respect by creating a decent, honest team which tries to entertain and give a good day out at a fair price, rather than cheap (or not so cheap) slogans or gimmicks. The 1950's were a long time ago. It is time for us to do something now and not cheapen the memory with tawdry tatt.

I came on here yesterday and made my feelings clear about the strip. I took my boy down today just to view it. I'd like to say it's not as bad in the flesh as the pics.
Not sure why that is but it's not as cheap looking. Still not my cup of tea but it isn't as bad as what I first thought. Also met Stubbs, Stevenson and Hanlon which was a bonus for my son.
Got him a training top the black and white one and they are actually quite smart.
Stubbs seemed very upbeat and I hope that rubs off of the rest of the squad.

Having originally moaned about the strip I went to the shop earlier to have a look at it and it really isn't as bad as those horrendous photos suggest. The top doesn't have that cheap looking shine that the photos from the official website had, actually considering getting it in long sleeve as it's actually quite smart. Who ever took those photos/edited them needs a word!

That was the impression I got from the zoom in shots from the website.
On that strength I ordered it.
The pictures (unsurprisingly) have got better and better.
1. shiny material on a camera phone.
2. Launch on f5 grandchildren, better, but still cheap looking.
3. Much better pictures on the online shop, looks good zoomed in.
4. People reporting it's nice and good quality in the flesh.
I suspect the reaction and progression to the home shirt will be the Hibs close season in miniature.

Initially I wasn't too impressed but after seeing it in a different light and on the mannequins in the shop it's not bad at all, already mentioned I liked the idea and I've said for to some time I'd like black socks incorporated.
It may clash with Hearts but I reckon one of us will just wear an all green or all maroon kit for the occasion as can't see us playing a derby in an away top.

Best strip for years. Maybe an age thing, but the simplistic styling is class in my view. Great green colour, like the length of the shorts and love the black socks. Miles away from the stereotypical guff representative of a Next leisure top as wore in recent years. I'd like to see the players wear the long green sleeves version and plain black boots. Class outfit for the greatest football team in the history of the world bar none.

At first when I saw it on the club site I was disappointed with the effort. However, seeing it hanging up in the shop, it looks a nice kit bar the sponsor having red on it. I bought it, guy behind the till asked me if I liked it & I said i wasn't overly impressed but will grow on me like our last away kit. The colour is nice but the sponsor lets it down as does the non white sleeves. I did tell him that the important part is that the guys wearing the shirt get results on the pitch!

I am appalled that the strip is so far removed from the traditional Green front and White sleeves. Clearly Nike had an end batch of material that was sold to Hibs on the cheap. If I was Alan Stubbs, I would do an Akex Ferguson and refuse to put out a team in it. Money talks but the fans talk louder. They would surely get right behind the new manager with backbone. Bringing the Famous Five into this first division business is a total embarrassment. Our marketing should simply be players who are determined to win the division. The famous five would be sad to see the comedy farce that has occurred at our once great club. Leanne, did Rod Petrie sanction the strip ? That would explain things.

That's all.
The problem is Leanne said her aim was to encourage more kids in the community to wear Hibs tops. How exactly will that happen when the home kit looks like what is described as a poor ugly Sunday league outfit. Back to Basics is all that is needed for this club. Starts with players being proper athletes, to outfits just being classic recognisable Hibs colours. Anything else is a distraction and explains why we are in the state we are.

Just turned up in the post this morning.
Ordered yesterday lunchtime, so 10/10 for Hibs on that front.
The kit is actually very well made and don't worry about the sponsors logo as it's toughened up.
Can't comment on the fit as I have lost almost 4 stone since last year, so I'm a completely different size anyway.
But I am a Large in the new Scotland jersey, and a Hibs large fits me fine.

Having seen it today in the flesh, I actually really like it, the quality isn't bad and the green is actually a wee bit lighter than the photo's make out. I also really like the simplistic design, a lot of modern strips are quite busy and have too much on them. The red in the logo does stick out like a sore thumb, and from what I've heard we did ask if they would compromise on the colour but they refused. Understandable I suppose considering it's their brand/logo etc, but it's either that or a sponsor that looks nice on the strip but pumps considerably less into the club.
Anyway, last time we won the Scottish Cup we didnae have white sleeves :hmmm:

Maybe it is myopia or an optical illusion but the logo looks bigger than on the Fulham shirt. I think it is because they have the "Bet" placed below "Marathon" rather than after it. Also stands out on a green shirt as opposed to the Fulham White.
