Was Andy Webster not one? I may be getting confused with Darren Barr, possibly.

Years ago on a tour of the stadium - Paul Holsgrove (!!) had signed that morning and was posing for the camera in the FF stand - was told by an official that Owen Coyle would be signing in a matter of days.
Must've fallen through...

Webster had agreed terms with us but his agent said that they had been contacted by them and that they had to speak to them before signing. soon after Hibs got the call saying he was signing for them again. This is why the "cheats" tag is justified.

Scored a peach against France in the last minute of the last qualifying game in Paris that meant France wouldn't go to USA 94 and sent Bulgaria instead.
Would have been a great signing particularly he had a fantastically voluptuous mullet.

Aye, but we would have had to sign Ginola to keep creating the chances for him!

Never mind that, mind when the cheats were about to sign Brown, Deek and O Connor. All done deals at one point. They no doubt would have been after Leigh this window if it wasn't for the pesky admin men

The story about the young Trezeguet being recommended to Hibs came out years after the event.
I remember Tommy Burns coming to Hibs being a recurring rumour. Eoin Jess was another.

Was thinking of players Duff Jimmy was trying to get, there was some Moldovan guy who scored 9 in one game, George Weah's pal who went to Belgium instead, and a certain Stephanny Adam who he had on trial.

I heard a interview with Craig Brown on Radio 5, around the time of France 98 (I think) and he said that Alex Miller had told him that John Collins had said him that Trezeguet and Henry were available from Monaco for 500,000 ( IIRC), and Miler had replied regretfully, that he didn't have that kind of money to spend. No idea if it's true or not, but it's the closest to an official response to that rumour that I've heard.

Webster did not agree terms with us.
Hibs offered excellent terms - but the Yams topped them, and tbh regardless of Hibs' offer then Yams would've topped it.
Source - the agent, a good pal of mine.
