Our central midfield were dreadful today, really poor. To give Robertson MotM is a shocking after that display.
I knew we were in bother as soon as i heard Hanlon was out. Only minor positives were two goals for Collins, Harris showing glimpses of his talent and Stanton showing enough to get him in the team next week.

McGivern's injury cost us dear in the first half. That coupled with the already reshuffled defence cost us the game. Didn't get any real shape back until after ht. Stanton had a very good game when he came on. LC a bit disappointing again though imo.
Before anyone heads for the bridge it's worth noting that Butcher's team went up to Aberdeen today and played them off the park.
There has definitely been a positive change but there is still a lot of work needed. He's done not bad with what's at his disposal so let's remember where we were, where we want to be and accept that there will be blips along the way.

Disappointing result, especially with St Johnstone dropping points. McGivern going off is going to have our defence at the bare bones if both he and Hanlon are out for a while, so maybe an area TB is going to have to look at strengthening.
Positives are the fightback to get two goals (and arguably could have had a point if we had been given the hand ball) and Collins scoring again. Id be keen to see Stanton possibly getting a start in the near future, hes been impressive in his last two games and hes still a bit of an unknown for other teams.

The guy that stands behind me every week is just constant with his abuse of Collins. He's like a broken record. Briefly stopped after his second today, funny that. Don't think I've ever encountered a more draining person at the football. His latest today was that we paid £250,000 for that ****!
Geez peace FFS!!
Same with the wifie behind me. Collins and Craig every week. Was delightful when the derby shut her up. McGivern and Lewis can do no wrong and it's "unlucky Ryan" pain in the arse like.

I thought Robertson was our best midfielder today and I don't usually like him!
Had a guy in front of me today who was blaming Lewis for everything, calling him an imposter etc, Maybury shouldn't have been playing cos he's too old and apparently I'm not allowed to challenge his opinion because he's been going to matches for longer than me.
He left at half time

Brave and good call from Butcher to put his trust in youth for 2nd half. The 3 attacking mids of Harris, Stanton and Cummings (still very raw) changed the game and i'd say we won the midfield in the 2nd half. The formation change helped too.
A flat 4-4-2 doesn't work when we have chronicly slow centre mids and if cairney has a shocker like he did today.
Final point, the MOM award to Robertson was a wind up right?

Indeed. Collins has become the latest target for the fans who don't know what the **** they're talking about.

Scored 2 today and ran himself into the ground. If we had 11 James Collins' today we would have been in far better shape.

Difficult to take any positives from that utter shambles - thought Stanton and Harris had one or two decent moments in 2nd half, but otherwise the "team" performance was almost as bad as anything under Fenlon. No-one deserves pass marks IMO - disgraceful performance against a team that has been shipping goals ... can't hear Butcher's excuses for this over here - does he have anything decent to say, I wonder?

I'm sure he will "kick on"...but I doubt "supporters" like you who give him grief will be a contributing factor.

Let's hope through time he gets that first touch sorted out.
Lucky two of his touches went into the Saint Mirren net then
Collins didn't impress me to start with, however over time he is winning me over with his workrate and attitude - does he ever hide in games ? He will come really good when we get two wingers that attack full backs, get in behind, get crosses into the box when defenders are stretched.
My worry, as someone else has said, is that other teams below are scrapping and getting points here and there. Partick seem to have a death wish when they go in front and that will become psycholigical. Ross County seem to have added really really well and are scoring goals now. Killie have Boyd who will always get goals.
Sorry to say, and it may not be a bad thing, but we will be bottom 6 again and perhaps, only perhaps, best of the rest. Another 2 derbies will be the bonus of missing out on top 6 - which I think we will.
We are however the sort of team at the moment who will turn in a winning show against Celtic then next week struggle v Raith

He offers us, at present, what we don't have up top and that is a directness and a raw talent who again, never gives up a ball. More games he plays, more finesse will develop, more consistency, more composure and more awareness.

I'm not singling him out. He's simply not good enough for a team who's ambitions are to challange at the top of the table and wouldn't get in any other team in the league. I'm not questioning his attitude or how hard he tries but he's past it completely.

Today showed me a few things:
1) We need more strength and depth in defence as with Hanlon missing our defence looked all over the place, then McGivern got injured.
2) Forster is better at right back than at centre back
3) Stevenson is far better at LM than LB
4) We need a quick striker up front with Collins
January is not the best time to do business but a CB and quick striker should be on the agenda.
They showed a fighting spirit today but if we are going to give 3 sloppy goals away in 26 MINUTES we are not going to go very far

We committed suicide in the first 25 minutes. From then on it was Saints keeping possession and continually fouling us. We don't have the pace to cause teams enough problems but the young lads showed promise. Harris needs a few weeks to get up to speed.

I'm not writing off Cummings at all, I don't feel he brings anything to the team when he starts. How many goals and assists does he have in his 8 or so games for the first team?
No doubt there could be a player in there in the future but every time he received the ball he chose the wrong option and rarely held onto the ball. As you have obviously pointed out he will develop with game time but he is not ready to be starting games just yet as IMO his recent form has shown.

Positives are we kept going and Stanton and Harris did well. I moaned on here at HT regarding Collins' abilty and I stand by my belief that despite the two goals today, he isn't good enough. Maybe a more experienced forward alongside him would help but I'm not convinced.
A must to have Hanlon fit for the Celtc game.

A poor day all round. Saints had good pace out wide with the lad Campbell who had a really good 1st half and they scored decent goals, shifting the ball quickly round the park (albeit helped by our statuesque defending)
From 0-3 down, they dug in and coasted home.
Only bright spots for me were Stanton who looks assured and will hopefully develop into a fine player as he fills out, and Harris who got some much needed game time and showed glimpses of pace now and again.
The only other highlight is that TB witnessed that horror show and will know exactly where to swing the axe and when.

What a terrible game of football. The players have shown that they can play some decent stuff but against a much more physical team we choose to play the 50/50 game coming off second best most of the time. It was as if we had a player or two less in the first half. Think we missed a Claros style player today, craig is a waste playing so deep and Stevenson is not suited at left back. Cummings will come good but needs more time to develop outside the first team.
Let's have some quality signings please, and get the players to tuck their shirts in...

Thx dude not seen much of the young family as I've been working in the weege and wife has been holding the fort and been ill so I'm on duty this weekend. Back for the next home game tho.
I think ink you're right I thought St J game, Killie, United and Aberdeen were a good benchmark but as you say the reAl test is today in terms of character. Despite "lesser" opposition on paper (but it's never as simple as that for us).
Its never as simple as that for us . Yep you hit the baw on the heid with that .
Got in ten minutes late the new system seemed not able to cope .The sight of the huge ques had briefly let me fantasise we were in for a bumper crowd .That was the first of many false hopes .
As fans argued with stewards about the delay st mirren went one up courtesy of bens back ..
On getting seated I couldn't fathom why no hanllon McGivern or Heff and Harris on from start ? But toes around me filled me in .
Stevenson and Maybury at full back s were being taken to cleaners and that coupled with Nelson and Foster having to form new partnership looked .like we were In For a torrid time and so it proved .
Stevenson was taken to cleaners not by an experienced player ,but by a rookie Newcastle reserve who had played three times for st mirren .to be fair he looks a player and you wonder why we can't form a link with a premiership club and do the same
Suddenly we were three goals down and game over .
If we had same back four as previous weeks would hope that resulttwould of been different .However for a team who we keep hearing has a big squad it's clear we do need that clear out butcher is finally talking about .
Was baffled that our bench didn't look full and after game butcher revealed there wrere players who didn't deserve to be on it so looks like the kid gloves are off and pampering stops .Not best preparation for Celtic .
Sixth place looks a lot harder now and if we don't bring some impact players in will be even harder. Ross county are already seeing benefit of new players .
There got all that off my chest ,and will give Celtic game a miss ,and hope it's sorted by game after that .

We're Hibs and this is our level. We'll always have players who are a bit inconsistent. Best to hope for is that not many have an off day at the same time.
