So Ronaldo is better than Messi now or are they just wanting a change?

Ronaldo had a better year than Messi, Messi is better than Ronaldo.

I don't understand why people can't understand this.

I agree though I'd rather pay to watch Ronaldo than Messi, just a bit more unpredictable,Messi is too perfect possibly the 2nd greatest player to have played the game !!

Ronaldo is the best player in the world right now, deserved.

Lucky to have such great players.

I don't understand. Every time I watch Barcarole when Messi plays, he gives the ball away a lot more than anyone. Great player yes. But not as good as Ronaldo

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25719657 how a PROFESSIONAL football should be. Always trying to better himself , day by day. My dad coached our primary school team (im from Galashiels) and John Collins did the foreword in our first league game. He said you must have the 3 D's, discipline, determination and dedication.

Nice comparison in this link:

Two fabulous players, I agree that Ronaldo absolutely deserved it this time but that link suggests Messi is the marginally better passer...at least statistically.

Ronaldo is an incredible talent, a superstar; the athlete.

Messi is an incredible talent, he possesses qualities I've never seen before in any football player; the artist

I take it you haven't watched the last 5 or 6 years of the spanish league where barca have dominated real madrid and the rest of the league in general (barring one year). Ronaldo didn't even start showing up in games between the two until last year!

3onaldo's been the better player over the last year and fully deserves the accolade.

Couldnae lace Gordon Smiths bits

I'm not sure Smith would have entirely appreciated that. IMO I don't get the fascination with trying to prove that one is better than the other. They are different types of player. Just enjoy the highlights that they well both give us for years to come

I think it's a disgrace that the award wasn't given to Sparky.

Comes down to a matter of choice for me. I much prefer Messi as a player. Don't get me wrong, both exceptional players, but having watched Messi fresh from injury the other night against Getafe, banging in two goals and running the show sums up just how good he is!

There was only a 3% difference in votes between Messi and Ronaldo, despite Messi being on the sidelines for part of the year. I do not doubt that Ronaldo had the better year, but when they are both fit and firing Messi is better as an all round player.

Absolutely delighted for the guy, great player, feels he lacks confidence, imagine how confident he will be now! He's only going to get better!

I get the feeling that for Messi, this all comes somewhat naturally, whereas Ronaldo has been away, constantly working to improve to try and better him.

Not that I'm saying that Messi doesn't train as hard as anyone, or that Ronaldo isn't naturally gifted. Just they do strike me as that sort of rivalry.
