Didn't know that either

Last I heard was that ICT had offered a new contract but that he had turned it down

Didn't deserve to be treated the way he was by the club or some of the fans towards the end of his Hibs career

He's now a sparky or a joiner down south. Smashing lad and will always be welcome at ER as an important part of a cup winning side.

Wasn't aware either - didn't see it on his twitter - he'd been commenting through his recovery so surprised.
What did the club do? Sorry memory fuzzy on that one... Was it not a wage/contract length question ?

I think he did both cruciate ligaments in the same knee, which was an horrendous injury - I'm sure I read at one point that he'd be lucky to walk properly again.

A good servant to Hibs and one of a select group who has a winners' medal with us. A lot of the bad feeling towards him stemmed from the animosity of many towards Hughes at the time, and the overwhelming negatitivty surrounding the club at the time, IMO.

He was at the Hibs v Inverness game in the West Stand wearing a Hibs anorak. I thought he was still with caley and had borrowed one from someone a former team mate as it was freezing.
Shame. Met him a couple of times and he seemed a good guy.

Always liked Hoggy, i admired him more after the fans were dishing out the abuse and he went over to the east to get his message across, good lad wish him all the best.

Hibs Cup winners medal
Former hibs captain
Pumped Fearne cotton

The guy lived the dream!

Brilliant for us riding shotgun alongside Rob Jones. Cup winning Hibs great.

Best wishes for the future.

If Hoggy had been 6" taller he would have been playing at a higher level than the SPL ... I always though he had a great attitude, but did struggle now and again against big forwards.

He is a Hibs player with a winners medal and how many can say that. I wish him all the very best and would be more than happy to see him back at ER some day doing the half time draw.

Sad to hear he's retired, still only 28 as well.

Good luck to him with the rest of his life.

To date, he was part of the only cup winning Hibs side that I've ever witnessed first hand so for that he'll always be fondly remembered by me.

Gutted to hear that he has to retire. Was a great servant to the football club and gave his all. Part of a cup winning side and his CB partnership with Rob Jones was absolutely solid.

All the best Hoggy!

Was grossly underrated at times, mostly due to the downfall in the overall quality of the squad not long after the 2007 cup final.

He was always solid for us though and always performed consistantly well, even when other players on the pitch weren't.

A real shame about his injury. A player should be hitting their prime at his age.

All the best Hoggy and thanks for the cup memories. :not worth

Reading his comments it seems that he's had offers but these days it's just year long contracts, with the hassle of moving a family around it's not worth it.

A real shame as he was always a player who gave his all for us.

When did he say that?
Before ICT played Hearts in the semi last year. He said "you'd hate to miss any semi-final but it's worse that it's against Hearts. They're the only club in world football I dislike"

All the best Chris, most definitely an underrated player by quite a few of the Hibs support. We missed him after he left.

Had an amazing youth career, captained England from U15 to U18 IIRC. Just stopped growing too soon. To be a top centre back you need to be around 6'2" or taller or have an incredible leap

I liked Chris sometimes frustrating but always gave his all. Shame he has had to retire so soon, I wish him all the best.

Chris is married to burley'a daughter and they have a son. One of the nicest couples I've met at hibs, hopefully he can get a career in football somehow

100%er every week. Better than he got credit for. Cup winner, one of about only 60 Hibs players to do so which puts him in the legend bracket for me. Good luck for the future

Hogg never let the team down and was a model pro.
Was part of one if the best back 4 I've seen in my time watching Hibs along with Jones, Whittaker and Murphy.

Sad to see him having to retire.
