Great player. Especially remember his one man performance against the Koreans at Goodison Park in the 1966 World Cup.

RIP.

RIP Eusebio - Sad day for football - never forgotten his performances in 66 (North Korea!) - Another one of the greats gone (music's not so good for the video, but the footage is superb....)

Visited the Stadium of Light in the summer and got some pics of his statue there. The plaque showing his stats and games/goals ratios made for some amazing reading. Legend.

Saw him play against Scotland [2-1] in the European qualifying game in 1971, to be fair, Sandy Jardine had him in his back pocket and he was subbed at half-time.

This was the game that Alex Cropley, Bob Wilson & George Graham made their Scotland debuts following the international parental rule change. Despite him misfiring that day, he was still a huge star and Sandy Jardine rightly was given enormous credit for his display that evening.

R.I.P. A true legend from my childhood.

Never realised he was born in Mozambique, must be the greatest player to come out of Africa.

Great footballer and a true gentleman.

I first saw him in the 1966 World Cup; I remember thinking what a strange game football was, when hackers like Norbert Stiles and Alan 'Jimmy Clitheroe' Ball could be "world champions" and a genius like Eusebio an "also-ran".

Mixed parents - Latin Portuguese and black African. Like in Brasil the mixture of the ethnic groups gives uniques physical combination.

Yes and also moved semi from Goodison where Portugal played group games and quarter final to Wembley meaning Portugal had long train journey on day of semi. England cheated all the way to the winning in 66!

Don't think we need to feel too sorry for Portugal. Didn't they kick Brazil every which way to be sure of getting out of their group?

I saw Eusebio play live six times. Five of those were for Portugal during the 1966 World Cup. He outclassed Pele in the group game against Brazil although to be fair Pele was kicked off the park that day. It was the Quarter-final at Goodison that he really showed his class. Portugal faced North Korea who had beaten Italy in the group stages. North Korea were 3-0 up within around 25 minutes. Then Eusebio took over and scored four goals in a 5-3 win.

Eusebio was unable to repeat that form in the Semi-final against England at Wembley although he scored a late penalty in a 2-1 defeat.

I also saw Eusebio play for Benfica against Man United in the 1968 European Cup Final. He was denied a winner by a miraculous save ear the end of normal time.

In my view the greatest of all time.

So you are endorsing England's systematic cheating throughout the 66 World Cup ? Brasil played rough houses with Portugal. A derby after all!

They were certainly very 'robust' in their tackling particularly against Pele. However Brazil were already in deep trouble having been destroyed 3-1 by a Florian Albert inspired Hungary in the pouring rain in the previous match at Goodison. Pele was on the bench for that match out so was probably not really fit to face Portugal anyway.

You see dramatic overacting from Pele as a cover of an excuse for being outdone by Eusebio and Portugal http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HpHY8bSPihg
