"Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive"

A quote from Wordsworth which I think says it all really.

As we move from the darkest day to days increasingly filled with light and as we start a brand new year could there be a better way to begin? Our derby win wasn't just a win in a game worth three points. It was a metaphor for what is to come and they know it. They know it painfully, bitterly and enduringly. Theirs is a deepening hurt that will just keep on aching for a long, long time to come.

All our tomorrows are filled with bright prospects. All their tomorrows are a vale of tears. For them it is "Never glad confident morning again".

Our team is growing in strength, while theirs is in terminal decline.
We move into the top six, while they are certain for the drop.
We have a superb stadium which we filled, while they have a failing eyesore.
We have an outstanding management team determined to build something enduring for the future, they have the cheapest solution they can find.
We have sound finances, they have no finances.
We have a club and support that will not tolerate prejudice or abuse, they have the bile of their sectarian element.
We have the dignity of a club and fans that fought for its survival, they have the shame of subservience to anyone offering fool's gold.
We have our history and Hibs family intact, they have the real prospect of ceasing to be.
We own state of the art training facilities the envy of others, they can barely even rent a kick about park.
We have earned every honour honestly, they have the stain of financial doping forever on their record.
We have the universally admired anthem that is Sunshine on Leith, they have nothing to compare.
We have SPL, they have Division One.
We are coming from the wilderness where we have had to be patient, they are entering the long hangover of their binge.
We have suffered, waited for and earned our stability and future, they have been joy riding into oblivion with other people's money.
We pay our bills, they don't.
We will be winning, they will be whining.
We are just beginning, they are finished.
We are undaunted, they are deluded.

Happy, happy New Year Hibees everywhere.

Just one point to add - if they still exist they will luck out by having the use of Centre of Sporting Excellence facilities at Heriot-Watt. Being on the west and by necessity having to play youngsters may be a factor for parents taking their kids through to train from the West of Scotland.

A fabulous and rather moving post ODS.

Interesting how this derby defeat has become the catalyst for Jambo despair in a very deep and fundamental way. I think this would have happened had we beaten them in the last two games, but our tendency under previous management to inexplicably snatch derby defeat from the jaws of victory had allowed them to cling to delusions of adequacy.

While nowhere near as comprehensive as we would have liked, this win was a significant watershed in illustrating the changing narratives of the two clubs and the derby as a fixture. And the evidence, from Kickback, Medals, Billy Brown, is that the penny has dropped and it's hurting like hell.

I agree with a lot of that... but they still have the dominant derby record, which is something that needs to change over the next few years (assuming they are still alive and get out the first division). One 2-1 win over them doesn't make up for the last few years. Looking forward to the next one at the PBS will be some scramble for tickets.

Love it, every word true and must be a dagger to the heart of any Jambo looking in. How they mocked when we questioned their business plan and financial footing, how they derided our Tick Tock countdowns, how could they have been so blind and stupid? Reap the world wind:cheerio:

They've "earned" much of there derby dominance during the 30+ years of financial doping that has brought them to the abyss. With 3 or 4 league games most years and cup games on top that is a large proportion of total derby games played. Hopefully, we will not have many opportunities too redress this imbalance.

I'd settle for one more opportunity on March 29 then the slate being wiped clean for the first tussle with Newco The Hearts, some 5-10 years down the line.

Also my preferred option but won't happen in the modern era, due to their fan base and better communications via Internet.

Best we can hope for is years of ground sharing and lower league pain, with lots of hand-wringing and false dawns, coupled with sprinkling of SC/LC shaftings, until they crawl back into the 'big time'. But that will take YEARS.

It's the Dundee scenario - a once big team that spends too long in the lower leagues will always struggle to establish itself back in the top flight. So when they do crawl back into the SPL they will be a bottom six team for a couple of seasons before slipping back down.

The Gretna scenario would suit better. They are made for semi-permanent residency in the Lowland League.

I'd rather they go bust, reform and are refused the backdoor entry to the SPFL afforded to The Rangers. Struggle through the minor leagues until they find their true level. They won't be playing to sell-out crowds at Almondvale in the 1st division.

They won't crawl back that easy tbh. Bottom six of championship if they're lucky. Some no bad teams in there.
