How much might you reasonably expect to get off marked forecourt prices in a cash deal if you're prepared to haggle? :dunno:

It'll depend on a few things but the most I've had of a used car was 3 grand. Went in on the Saturday and walked out agree they didn't bring it down enough and then got a call on the Monday with a better offer from them.

Cash isn't an attractive deal to dealers because they don'tmake anything from selling you PCP or HP etc.

What are you looking at?

Roughly what percentage of the advertised price was that?

I know, they're more interested in selling the finance than the car. Just looking at maybe getting a couple/few hundred off a nearly-new runaround for about £8 or £8.5k. Don't want to waste too much of my own or anyone else's time though.

I would rattle to bits if I went at 144mph!

LOL I wasn't trying to sell you mine! (although it really is a brilliant, well looked after car and I'd do you a really good deal...)

I've never gone near 144mph, but I've no doubt it would cope easily.

Seemingly, it was the first car that yon bloke on top gear ever drove over 150mph (presumably on the speedometer).

I don't mind having a look around for you. Just give me an idea as to the size of vehicle you're after.

Family size like a Mondeo? Small family like a Audi A3? Fanny magnet like a BMW 320D M Sport Coupe?

Not sure thats still true.

My wife and I bought a sticker price £13k Fiesta, 6 months old, from Arnold Clark a year last summer, £10k cash and it was ours.

Even I was surprised/shocked.

Good stuff. Windscreen prices are there to be ignored! :greengrin

I think my theory still holds true. I was looking at an Audi and I know they would have offered me a lower price had I been taking credit as opposed to paying cash. Indeed, they told me that there would have been at least a dealer's contribution of £500.

You might have negotiated the Fiesta down to £9000 if you were taking out a PCP, but you would have ended up paying £12500 or something depending on their interest rate.

Would have been 20%, easy.

Thanks guys. Have a better idea now of how cheeky I can reasonably be with an offer if I go for a trawl down Seafield.
