With apologies in advance for any howlers – I cannae do shorthand

Part 1 - Club News – David Forsyth

Terry, the Board and Sir Tom really enjoyed the Dan McMichael ceremony. Comments from the room ranged from appreciation of St Pat’s efforts to admiration of Terry’s speech with no script. Terry has totally bought into the history of the club and (as seen on BBC Alba) been fervently reading all of the motivational and photo stuff on the walls at Easter Road and the Training Centre. He is interested in all things Hibernian.

Club management are excited to have a real leader in their midst. The last time they had this feeling was Tony Mowbray and to a lesser degree Alex McLeish. Terry and his wife are in the middle of moving house to the Edinburgh area. Our PR guys are thrilled because Terry is running 2 media days per week. He did this at ICT too apparently but more TV crews turn up at ER.

The results of the big ‘Green Views’ supporter survey carried out by the LWT Big Issues team in the summer have been analysed and a summary will be published soon. A lot of good ideas and feedback came from it which has influenced club strategy and will lead to further projects.

The new HFC Communications group meets every Friday chaired by Russell Smith with Marketing, PR and Community Foundation. The new CRM database (See Operations update) has been used to push out a weekly newsletter to nearly 20,000 email addresses.

Part 2 – Matchday Operations – Garry O’Hagan

Last season, as the contracts with our IT ticketing systems were about to expire the management team started to look around the market. A couple of IT professionals sourced through LWT helped out with requirements and the board approved the acquisition of a new package.

The main criteria was the elimination of booking fees and the deal agreed with Ticketmaster has led to other clubs and concert promoters phoning Hibs to say “how did you manage that””. We have a flat fee deal which enabled Hibs to get rid of fees, the source of negative feedback in many previous surveys.

Garry and his team have recently carried out a soft launch of 'print at home' tickets. Next up is self-scanning turnstiles – 4 of which will be in operation at the next home game. As with all things Hibs it will be a pilot, processes will be refined then rolled out throughout the stadium.

This system should reduce costs and the timeline of payback of the capital cost is around 3 years. Other aspects of our new CRM system is to move on next year to loyalty points and integration between stadium access, CRM, communications, database and club shop. One step at a time though! This new, market leading IT system (SPORTS ALLIANCE) is in use across the EPL and in Europe.

Part 3 – Commercial – Russell Smith

Russell had been busy earlier that evening with the highly successful calendar signing. He had a mock moan that Terry Butcher had been chatting to supporters at the front of the queue so much that it was causing a log jam. So he was hastily repositioned to the back. The good news is that no players were playing with their phones and a good few even cracked a smile. Sky Sports were there again – David F said having a former World Cup captain at our club means he is popular with broadcasters.

It’s been a busy time for the Commercial team having lost Amanda Vitesse after 13 years with Hibs. Martin McAvoy has joined and brings a wealth of corporate hospitality experience. As with all staff at ER he’s a huge Hibby and a season ticket holder. It’s early days but it looks like The Clubhouse is hitting the mark pitched as it is at the ‘meal before the match’ market rather than high end corporate. More of an ST upgrade – feedback from supporters was they wanted a less formal experience. Terry and Maurice have a strong commercial awareness. At 2.30 pm before the Patrick game, big Terry was in hospitality talking to punters.

Half Season Tickets. There was a lot of positive feedback at the meeting to Terry’s Arthur Seat pictures. Some wanted to buy a picture in a frame. Management will use those images in other ways in the future. We all need to push half seasons as every penny is invested back into the squad.

The tunnel sales have been going well and the new management team are backing this. After the success of the East Terrace, this is seen as phase 2 of the ‘Hibernianisation’ of the stadium. We want it to be inspiring for our players and intimidating for opposition teams. In decades to come our messages will still be read by Hibs players walking out that tunnel. The manager gives the team talk then, as the players wait in the tunnel, we give them another team talk. Some guys in the room compared it with EPL stadiums (e.g. Man City) where there are images everywhere in the stadium.

The new CRM system was celebrated again with a huge potential for targeted marketing and better MI. The Lotto has kept bubbling away and the recent stock issues in the club shop are being addressed. (I was disappointed to hear about these again – is this the third year in a row??).

Thanks for the update Gogs. Great to hear the progress being made a few good news stories in there.

With the interest in Terry's management talk on yaTube prior to joining, I wonder if there is potential for him sharing his pearls to Hibbiedom (for a small fee per head? Perhaps even a PPV Hibs Tv event?).

Media Team Update - Andrew Sleight

As media manager over recent years, Andrew has had to cope with the different preferences and media 'skills' of a previous managers so working with Terry in the last few weeks has been an excellent experience. Terry brings some fresh ideas and is available daily for interviews - either written or Hibs TV

Hibernian TV XTRA and International services for overseas supporters are performing well with good feedback. Only Celtic and Dundee United in the SPFL offer a similar service. Our YouTube Channel has now had over half a million hits and is fast growing with over 2,000 suscribers. It's free so why not click on the link below and subscribe? This service was created in response to supporter feedback that they couldn't afford an extra £80 a year for Hibernian TV matches and other material but were keen to see manager and player interviews. As in other firsts, Hibs were the first team in Scotland to start a YouTube channel.

http://www.youtube.com/HibernianTV

St Pat's gave a big thank you to the media team for the media coverage of the Dan McMichael Ceremony both on the website and in the excellent interview given by Terry Butcher where he talks about that event and the pleasure in getting to know Pat Stanton.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auNN-XklvmU&feature=c4-overview&list=UUXKLs14yjDc5s7GJ1txkWxw

There was a bit of repartee about Andrew and Terry's accents - to the untrained ear they sound similar although Andrew has been a Hibby forever. I'm not sure he has forgiven my brother for calling him 'that English guy on Hibs TV' :greengrin

The media team are up to 8 or 9 strong now built around the strong volunteering traditions of Hibernian. Some really interesting roles for Hibbies looking to develop their skills in film, video, photography, journalism. Anyone with IT skills is particularly welcome. Please contact Andrew Sleight - volunteering at Hibs is a great way to improve a hobby or enter a new career.

The attendees welcomed new team member Nicola Scrimgeour whose articles on the Hibernian Family are getting excellent reviews.

Definitely should have been doing my homework, but instead spent a lot of time debating what colour of bike goes fastest or arguing with Hearts fans who thought Calum Elliot was better than Steven Fletcher! :greengrin All turned out fine in the end though

Nice job for putting these notes up - it was my first time at a LWT meeting and a real eye-opener to see how much hard work goes on behind the scenes, a lot of which will never get picked up on (though hopefully can change that!) A bunch of really passionate people - fans and club members alike - who give up their free time to try and make a difference and move Hibernian forward.

i still think blue with a white racing stripe!! time hasn't changed that!

Well done to all

Community - Kris Von Wald

It's a really busy time of year for the Foundation team. We have had 2 hugely successful Pantos (Oh no we haven't!) and the Hibs Kids football touranment at East Mains attended by a huge number. Players have been busy out in the community lighting up trees and attending the Sick Children's hospital. Thousands of tickets have been handed out to schools during 2013.

A number of schools are working with Hibs running after school Homework clubs which combines homework with coaching. Greenshoots is launching again in January with Friday sessions 2-4 at East Mains and Meadowbank for boys and girls age 5 to 14 years. There is a full week during the February half-term (17-21 Feb) for just £60 EM, £66 Meadowbank. Spaces are limited so book now at Greenshoots@hibernianinthecommunity.org.uk or call Sue on 0131 661 2159. My Cammy went on this 3 summers ago and he thought the coaching was terrific. Got his boots signed by Zemmama!!

The Healthy Hibee courses for men, women and families kicks off again in the New year as does Football Fans in Training for overweight blokes between 35 and 65. The Still Game courses for aulder Hibbies is still on the go and IIRC former players are involved. Looks like I'm eligible for all 3 - pity I bide in Perth these days and not 325 Easter Road!.

The Learning Centre is busy as ever with Job Search, IT skills and creative classes in web design, photography, social media and there's a team challenge for 16-24 year olds to develop a marketing plan for the centre. For the 10-16 year olds the tea time Music Box club promoted by Craig and Charlie Reid is a great opportunity for kids to learn how to play musical instruments, write and record songs. Fiannlu and I've probably missed out loads of other stuff there is a local history project where attendees can explore the rich heritage of Hibernian, Edinburgh and Leith.

The amount of work the Community team produces is astonishing and those present offered to do their part to promote that work more widely. Dougie from the Association, St Pat's, David Forsyth all spoke to Kris after the meeting about ideas to get the word out there more in the wider support, for sourcing volunteers and fundraising. This is an area of the club that touches on a proud history of helping the community and we should all do what we can to support this work. Why not link to the Facebook page to keep in touch with what's going on?

Hibernian Ladies - Willie Kirk

The meeting congratulated Willie for winning the SWF Manager of the Year award for what has been a stunning start to the 2013 season.

http://www.hibernianfc.co.uk/news/20131127/ladies-boss-wins-top-prize_2262950_3553053

Willie had been down at the SFA in Largs for the previous 2 days and arrived in his SFA training kit. He gave us a quick run through of the operation from the early days in 1999 through use of the club name, finally coming together under the Hibernian Community Foundation banner in recent times. Women's fitba is the fastest growing sport in the world (3 people in the room had daughters or nieces who play regularly) and the younger age groups at Hibs Ladies are hugely successful. There are teams from U11 up to the first team although youngest age groups are not so competitive, the focus being on skills development.

Last season the U13's won the League: The U15's won 2 cups and were 2nd in the League: U17's got to 2 Cup Finals: The Development squad won their division and the first team were 2nd in the League and lost the Cup Final by a narrow margin. There is a huge contrast between our teams, some of whom pay £35 a month fees in order to be at Hibs with Glasgow City who can be paid big bucks due to having major sponsors. Glasgow also get funding for having 9 Scotland Players (We have 3 at senior level but 17 across the club). The Scotland squad is out in Brazil at the moment.

The club is based at St Augustines on the West of Edinburgh where most teams play their home games. The first team play at Albion Park, Broxburn, selected for the facilities it offers. David Forsyth wondered whether the new centre for sporting excellence at HW could be an option in future? Home games attract a regular crowd of 100, more for bigger games. Some us wondered why the teams didn't play at East Mains but the answer was capacity. There are 100 girls now playing for Hibs in addition to 200 boys in the Academy. That's a huge effort in organisation in coaching and logistics. It costs about £80,000 a year to run Hibernian Ladies and although past seasons have seen us running a deficit, it is hoped to start breaking even in the near future.

The amount of training the players do is amazing with most fitting in morning sessions and well as evenings. Some fit in as many as 9 sessions a week - either at St Augustines or at the National Performance Centre at Stirling - it's no wonder they are so successful!!

Some of the group asked if the club should play a game at Easter Road. This appeared to me to be a more popular idea with the support than with the management but Willie said he hoped that 1 game could be organised.

All Together Green

2 Hibbies, Kevin and Rod who had met at LWT conducted a presentation to promote a more inclusive culture at Easter Road. Given the wide variety of different ethnicities in Edinburgh, they do not appear to be represented within our support. Management have tried leaflet drops, the Community Foundation have worked hard to engage but there is so much more we can do. Such an activity needs contacts and footsoldiers - supporters to meet and greet, also to visit groups and welcome people into our club. As a club formed from an immigrant community we need to be as welcoming as possible regardless of a person's racial background, age or sexuality.

The Edinburgh Reds (Polish Football Team) have been contacted by the HCF and we have seen a flag at home and away games. One attendee offered to give contact details for a Hibby mate who is an Education officer at Wembley Stadium. Other ideas floated were to have different food offerings, more activity at Leith Festival, contact with the Scots Asian footballers that play on Leith Links. Man City was quoted again as being the 'Peoples Club' with a multiculural support. The Association often have functions held by families with different racial backgrounds and the club kitchen was recently the scene of some Asian cuisine by a prominent member of Leith's Hibs-Supporting Singh family.

Contact had been made with the local SFA representative and their was an exhibition touring Scotland aimed at breaking down racial barriers in football. As we know Liam Craig recently won an award from SRTRC for his contribution to that campaign. There were a few other ideas discussed but the next step is to put a small working group together, create an action plan early in the New Year and report back with next steps.

Any other ideas are welcome - please feel free to post up

Leith Links - FranckSuzy

Suzy gave us an update on the Leith Links initiative which was covered in a great article recently in the Edinburgh Reporter by Hibs Media Team volunteer John Hislop

http://www.theedinburghreporter.co.uk/2013/11/leith-links-initiative-helps-kids-attend-games-at-easter-road/

It was really heart-warming to hear the gratitude of the many underprivileged groups that have been given season tickets through this special funding of the club's Kicks for Kids initiative. More funds are needed and a standing order can be set up for as little as £5 per month. See the LL facebook page for more details.

https://www.facebook.com/LeithLinks4Kids

There had recently been a successful Christmas auction advertised on messageboards and Facebook raising a further £450 to add to the £1800 already raised. Prizes included a Hibs ball, signed by the most of current team. a signed copy of ‘Shades', a signed pair of Graham Stack’s goal-keeping gloves, a lift home in the Vengabus, a signed copy of ‘Skagboys’ and 'Crime' by Irvine Welsh, a signed Alan Maybury Hibs top and signed copies of ‘At Easter Road They Play’ and ‘In Colours Green and White’ by John Campbell. Some generous Hibbies helping out there

Suzy spoke of her humbling experience being invited to the Scottish Parliament recently to join a group of organisations doing inclusion work in their communities. Lest we forget that Suzy has achieved all this all with support from the Hibernian Family. A big round of applause was heard at the end of her update.

Dnipro Kids Charity - 8 years on - Jackie Beer

Those in the room listened intently to the update given by Jackie on the work of this very special charity, set up by a group of Hibs Supporters following their Eurpean trip in 2006. The following video was featured on STV 3 years old but sums up how that process started. Stevie Carr is sporting a tremendous 80's fringe in his interview :greengrin

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGjf_u2Sj7g

Christmas takes place in January in the Ukraine and some specila Santa outfits are being purchased. The charity supports 2 orphanages and also has started to support the fostering out of children to approved families. Sponsors can still keep track of the children who they support. Fundraising was hampered last year due to the sudden rescheduling of the Hibs Motherwell game clashing with the Charity Dinner but over £4,500 was raised in the March dinner chaired by patron Grant Stott.

The charity has been taking kids away on 3-day trips and the next one is planned for March, with a committee member accompanying each trip. Dnipro Kids has one assistant in the Ukraine and is soon to recruit another part funded by a donaltion by the local Carlsberg division. This time of year the focus is on warm clothing as the temperature can drop to minus 20.

Stevie has sent me the latest sponsors updates which I will attach later but to stress that the audience on Thursday were blown away with the fact that not only is the charity still going strong but that it's outreach work is still growing. The committee of four would welcome some extra help, not just money but also anyone who could spare a few hours a month. For details of how to get involved please see Stevie's note below lifted directly from the DniproKids website. Please spend a few minutes on there to understand the amazing work they do.

http://dniprokids.com/

"And if you are not already a Child Sponsor, and you have the means to do so, I would urge you to consider direct sponsorship of one of the children that we support in Dnipropetrovsk. Your monthly contributions will assist in providing birthday, Christmas and summer trips for these kids as well as helping to support the many other projects that we fund for the children.

As you can see from the previous story, you have the ability to follow the fortunes of your sponsored child, with regular updates and photos. For details about Child Sponsorship please email me directly steven@dniprokids.com "

Winding up

We are going to work together to have a greater range of activities in the Leith Festival next summer
The Historical Trust fundraising dinner will be in April. A good opportunity to go in a group although individuals and couples will also be well catered for
Most of the supporters in the room would like to see an end to a DJ playing musak and a real attempt at a proper sports announcer who builds the atmosphere and interacts with the crowd
There is a real determination to produce a better culture at Easter Road and a zero tolerance of the venomous abuse of Hibs players by a vocal minority. This type of conduct spolis the atmosphere for the rest of us and is the wrong way to support the club
LWT working groups will meet in January to work on events and projects. We will invite TB, MM and LC to the February meeting
We will also be using the Hibs club a lot more - it's a great venue with good facilities. Many thanks to the committee for their excellent hospitality
Thursday's gathering brought together a large number of groups from across the Hibernian Family. A strong sense of unity and optimism was felt and we will work together to strengthen this unity in the coming months

Glory! Glory!

Thats a really good read.

Im sure Im not the only one who doesnt really appreciate the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes. Going to watch the first team is the main focus and everything else gets lost.

Am I right in saying the LWT meetings available are for anyone to go to? If so it would be good to see a bit more publicity for them. Maybe Im just unobservant but I only seem to read about these meetings once they've been.

Im sure many more people would have their eyes opened to the great work going on if it was shouted about a bit more :greengrin

Ok fair enough

But do the threads make it obvious that it's open to others? I'm not having a go, I'm just trying to help make sure it can reach its full audience. Many might just see the letters LWT and either not know what it stands for or that it's a closed group.

:agree: All that is asked is that you PM your name so security know who is coming along. Every thread states that the meetings are open to all Hibbies and that they are an opportunity to meet the board/fellow Hibbies and hear what's going on behind the scenes/in the pipeline for the future :aok:

As the rest of the guys say it's not a closed group. If fact Let's Work Together isn't a group at all. No constitution, committee, website or self-publicity. There are working groups though

It's just an opportunity................a gateway into the wider family of Hibernian FC. A gathering of Hibs Supporters where we find out what's going on behind the scenes of board, management and all the various groups. A chance to translate ideas into action

It's a great place to ask questions and put opinions forward. Ages 10 to 110, lads, lassies - all welcome
