Me - I think the Germans will do it, though it is hard to go against a South American team.

I fancy Spain again.

Still a great team and the trip over for the Confederations Cup last year will have done wonders for preparing them for the conditions.

Would love to see the Germans win it though.

My heart says Brasil but think it will be very tough and comes down to whether they are buried by the overwhelming sense of expectation. The protests will continue and that may play on the minds of the players. If Brasil falter it will be the South American equivalents of Germany (who'll crap it if they get placed in Amazonas) - Argentina who'll clinically dispense all opposition to claim the prize.

The French? spin-doctor fool from FIFA who tried to reach out to the Brazilian population. To welcome the world to see how truly great a country Brazil is - how effing patronising it is all that without the World Cup. And the population there has got their understanding of priorities in life correct. Sorry but it's time FIFA and the IOC started to look at the monsters they have created.

I voted Germany, they have so many amazing technical players coming through but also have that power and pace that gives them different ways of playing that I dont think many other teams have.

Even now I would say its hard to really know whos going to win it though, the fact its in South America gives the teams from there an advantage. Brazil and Argentina will be obvious favourites for people but I think Colombia and Chile could both do really well!

Because England are so rank rotten and embarrisingly bad, no one actually cares about them.... ABE applies when you have a chance of winning the thing, theres more chance of the Giggs family winning family fortunes, than there is of England winning the world cup

They are such an exciting group of players (and on paper arguably as good as anyone in the world), but as yet Im convinced they are a team that can really cut it at the top level. Like you say, the qualifying group wasnt the most challenging, and in the last couple of years their record against slightly tougher opposition isnt exactly great -

Lost 1-0 vs England
Beat Holland 4-2
Beat USA 4-2
Drew 0-0 with France
Lost 2-0 vs Colombia
Lost 3-2 vs Japan

Admittedly the results vs Holland and the USA stand out, but apart from that its a fairly poor set of results against teams that probably wont have a chance in the WC (except maybe Colombia).

They should seed qualifying via a ratio of results to financial clout. England being ranked 250th would soon see Scotland regain their rightful place as footballs master race and the home nations premier representative at major tournaments.

ENGLAND'S ROAD TO THE FINAL...If England win Group D they would most likely play Ivory Coast or Japan in Recife, before a quarter-final with holders Spain in Salvador, a semi-final v Germany in Sao Paulo and a final against Brazil!
If group runners-up, they could face the prospect of meeting four seeds in a row: Colombia in Rio, Brazil in Fortaleza, Argentina in Belo Horizonte and then Spain.

Nah, group of easy qualification for Germany and Portugal. USA are poor.

The USA have a very strong national side which has a very good spine of Tim Howard, Omar Gonzalez, Brad Evans, Michael Bradley, Jermaine Jones, Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore. Add into the mix the defenders Geoff Cameron, Michael Orozco and DeMarcus Beasley, some exciting midfield prospects in Mix Diskerud and Brek Shea and strikers including Aron Johannsson and Terrence Boyd. Of course there is still Landon Donovan too. The USA have a good squad, it's probably just as good as Portugal's minus Cristiano Ronaldo.

These guys are pretty much all journeymen. Don't rate them at all. About the level of the Scotland squad.

Boooooo! :greengrin I still think Germany will have enough to go through but the USA are a decent side of late and Portugal can never be counted out either. Will be disappointed if Die Mannschaft don't make it to the later stages of the competition, though like I said earlier, I really want them to win it this year!

I can see Germany doing well, the one thing that will count against them is the humidity, but it'll even itself out amongst all the other sides, especially in the group. Maybe USA with a slight advantage due to playing in places such as Panama, Mexico, even some places in the USA where the humidity levels are relatively high. I'd be surprised if Germany and Portugal didn't qualify from the group myself though.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I am obviously the of the opposite belief. Having watched the team win against sides like Germany and Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2013 as well as good performances against a strong Belgium outfit suggest otherwise. Add into the mix the performances of 2012 which include wins over Italy and Venezuela and a draw away in Russia and there are the makings of a national team that can perform on the international pantheon, hopefully they can pull off an escape from a very tough group.

What, you mean the UK news? Talking about England? It's a disgrace, call Points of View immediately!

I dont remember the UK football team qualifying for the World Cup. What group are they in?

I don't rate England's chances at all. The afternoon game in Manaus is going to flatten them, but Italy will also find it hard. The thought of the English fans and media up there makes me fear for them. It is not going to be a comfortable or cheap experience for anyone that makes it there.

What I'm seeing here is that it is open season on greed by airlines and hotels. Prices are being hiked by up to 10x their normal rates. To spell that out, many cities are already full up and people have paid prices of up to £2000 per night per person for average accommodation. Flights from Sao Paulo to most other cities are now around the £1000 mark and rising. Visitors will find themselves openly exploited, there will be no legacy in terms of infrastructure, only unthinkable debt and a tourist industry which will suffer from the realisation of how expensive Brazil is. Meanwhile, open corruption on a frankly embarrassing scale and appallingly low wages for the majority will carry on uninterrupted. Expect massive protests and a lot of problems. This will not be one of those times where "everything works out okay somehow" in the end. Brazil deserves better than it's shameless, corrupt leaders are delivering. Billions of dollars spent on stadiums with no football teams and which will therefore never be used again in cities full of shanty towns with crumbling or nonexistent infrastructure, the unemployed, nonexistent public health or education services and starving families. It's enough to make you weep.

It's a good draw for England in the sense that they will have to be right on their mark for every match.

The hideous football press in the south don't seriously expect their boys to win nowadays so Roy's team can emerge as heroes by just qualifying from the group.

Anything else is a bonus.

They won't win it. Germany or Argentina will in my view.

All that after the chaos that will be São Paulo and Rio airports. M is The car park at Guarulhos still a free for all (no limit on numbers coming in so folks cruise around for non-existent spaces?)

I've worked on call centre transition projects with Brazilians and despite careful planning and management things almost went tits up as the IT manager ignore the minimum spec requirements (to cut costs) it did come good in the end and I wonder if the Copa will turn out jut the same. The civil engineer I spoke to (shed been to Rio I the last month) wasn't hopeful.

She also said a route into Rio past a favela has a massive screen erected so that it was not visible. That is a disgrace and a surprise given the party in power.

Its a a crying shame and as I've said earlier time for FIFA and IOC to look at the monsters they've created.

Doesnt matter if its accurate or not, its arrogance saying it!

Saying that, England is Costa Rica's easiest game!! But they never said that on the news!

I'm sure they said it in Costa Rica, the arrogant devils.

I'm also certain that if we get drawn against someone like San Marino in the Euro qualifiers, they'll describe that as Scotland's easiest game, not the other way round.

Typical English (media) arrogance...

BBC News Reporter...

"Toughest game is the opener against Italy, the EASIEST is the last group game against Costa Rica"

Dicks!

Typical Scottish chip on the shoulder idiom.

If Scotland get drawn against Italy and San Marino in the Euro qualifiers, what do you think the Scottish (media) will say?

The car park is still a free for all. There`s people in old cars in there who have been looking for a space since the 80s...:greengrin Seriously though, the games will probably go ahead and all that, and normally, I would agree that somehow things will work out at the last second, as they often inexplicably seem to do here, but they won`t be able to hide the wider problems and many fans are going to have an awful time of it. Brazil as a country is going to be embarrassed by how many other things play out (imho).

Just had a wee reread of this...really interesting to see how its panned out.
Demonstrates, if nowt else, that the unpredictable factor (as opposed to the Tom Kite that is the X-Factor - among all the other crap that the minority are moaning about being punted from the TV schedules) is one of the main reasons why oor geme is THE most popular thing on the planet.
