The laddie has finally told folk he is gay, not exactly shock of the year but hopefully the laddie can get on with his life without constant rumours about him wondering if he is or isnt

I personally find it quite disturbing that this **** still classifies as a valid news story.
Who honestly gives a **** who the boy is dating?
(that's no reflection on the OP by the way).

It's probably more a reflection that Daley publicly announced it.

Thousands and thousands of young lassies. Stuff like this is never not going to make the news. Well not for a very very long time anyway.

From what i saw he actually made out he likes boys and girls and is currently dating a guy.

So he is greedy then!! Just dont get why in 2013 almost 2014 that gay folk need to justify things

The sad thing is that he has to justify himself to narrow minded people and hope that he is accepted to do the most natural thing in a human beings life and that is to love and be happy. Here is the video if you have not seen it and are interested:

I hope it inspires other sports men and woman to come out.

Not surprised in the slightest but I don't see why it's news.
Couldn't care less what he, or anyone else for that matter, is doing with other consenting adults behind closed doors.
I don't get the "Of course I still fancy girls" bit though.

It's a high profile sportsmen 'coming out', that's news whether we agree it should be or not.
Good on him i say, like it or not sportsmen are role models and it may just help someone else struggling with their sexuality open up.
just opened the 2nd door of my advent calender, wasn't expecting Tom Daley to come out.

Call me a cynic but I don't buy the whole "I'm still attracted to girls" line however it's probably good business to keep them living in hope when there are 2014 calendars on sale

Why a gay person in this day and age has to make an announcement and "Come out" is beyond me. It's high time this ridiculous term and the circus surrounding it is forgotten. Absolutely no need for folk, famous or otherwise to make announcements regarding their sexuality.

There are those in the media who think that people do care about celebrities' sexuality. To that end, they are prepared to "expose" those celebrities.
For all we know, Daley was about to be "exposed". Far better, then, that he declares things first before some low-life gets in.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment that it shouldn't be an issue the fact is that part of the problem is that there aren't enough positive gay role models to counteract the stigma attached to homosexuality. For this reason alone I take my hat off to Tom.

I think you've missed my point completely. I know exactly why he and others feel the need to do so, my point was it's ridiculous in this day and age of so callled equality that they have to.

It was the fact that his boyfriend is a 38yr old veteran of the American gay scene that raised my eyebrows. Poor wee laddie. He's going to get his heart torn to pieces.

Sadly, I think the still fancy girls quote was designed to influence both his current and future sponsorships deals.

The problem he has is the sport he is in. The guys chances of ever winning an Olympic gold have gone forever now. Its the most homophobic sport there is.
I watched the diving at the London Olympics and all the commentators could go on about was folk losing marks for not being straight when they hit the water.

Why do you think that?
There are thousands of openly bi-sexual people in the UK.
If you added in all the men who secretly like a bit of home comfort, you'd be in the millions.

My point is that I suspect he is gay and not bi-sexual. I may be wrong.
His 'I still like the girls' quote makes his future marketing potential and sponsorship deals more favourable than they would be if he said 'I only like the ( older ) boys'

Like many others, you have an opinion. Your first sentence could do with at least a wee bit of corroboration to make it semi plausible though.
If I was to have as wild a guess as you I'd say he's quite probably still coming to terms with his feelings and a good few years will pass before he truly understands his 'likes' and 'dislikes,' if he ever does. Unlike you, though, I don't have my cynical hat on today.
Fair do,s to the guy. He has had a bit of a hard time in his life with his dad dying of cancer and maybe that has changed his outlook on life. He might have wanted to put a stop to the rumours and tittle tattle that folk do. He might have wanted to avoid being outed by some ****my newspaper. Whatever his reasons are they were big enough for him to announce it and I admire him for it.
This is probably the highest profile British sports star to ever come out. The fact that he was so young and did it so publicly actually says a lot about our society and how far it's come.
I think there's still a difference between someone like Tom, who is an individual sportsman, coming out and someone who has to operate within a team environment.
Saying that, there were probably dressing rooms who didn't really care for black players 35 years ago.
