Anyone know the team news?

The weather will be one or two light showers across the Isles and northern and western coasts of Argyll. Otherwise dry with some bright or sunny intervals the best of these around Glasgow and Lanarkshire. Light winds.

Hope to see the team more attacking today.

Plus play at a faster pace and strech their defence.

En route to glasvegas. It's absolutely baltic but there was a decent amount of hibbies in station so should be a decent support.

I forecast a boring 0-0 draw with Jim Goodwin getting away with murder (hopefully not literally)-

I just have a feeling that it's going to take a bit longer for Tel and Malpas to turn things round

I didn't realise St Mirren were only a point behind us with a game in hand. Doesn't seem that long ago when they were languishing at the bottom and genuinely worried about being caught by Hearts. Just shows how quickly things can change - if Butcher can get us to string a run of good results together, suddenly we're up challenging at the right end of the table. Let's hope it starts today!

They sure are. Have win 4 out of their last 5 games. Lennon seems to have turned a wee corner and moved his coat off the shooglie peg- for now anyway.

Buzzing for the game, it's a nice -6 here in Tønsberg, and it's looking like first day of snow today.

Been really impressed with the things Terry and Maurice have said, now we need to see if the players have listened and hopefully the tables are going to turn in our favour.

Going for 3-0 to the mighty!

Handling must have been working his socks off for the last couple of weeks to impress Butcher. Well done to him for getting his name on the teamsheet :agree:

And good to see us not trying to cram 4 central midfielders into the team just because we've got them, let the players play in thier natural position rather than Robertson and Craig trying to be wingers, unfortunate on Thomson to miss out though.

Im not 100% on the Robertson/Craig central 2. Both have very limited defensive abilities - potentially leaving a Forster/Hanlon exposed

Maybe im kist used to seeing 2 DM in there!

Looking forward to seeing what this set up can muster. I must say I am glad to see Cairney again, he must have been doing something right in training to get himself back into the team and it'd be great if he can translate that onto the pitch once again. Decent mobility in the middle too with Craig, Robertson and Handling in that area!

:agree: And Paul Cairney, we still have defensive cover as Robertson and Craig do their shift in defending. We still lack a bit of pace, but there's nothing we can do just now about that.

We have had way too much defensive cover under Fenlon, and that contributed in how slow we played, hopefully this team selection will result in us getting up the park quicker, and creating in the final third of the pitch.

A right back playing right back, a winger on the wing, two strikers and two midfielders who can play the midfield role with energy and pace and score goals.

Options on the bench in an attacking and midfield sense but no defensive ones without changing team around. Interesting stuff.

I'm delighted that Thomson and Taiwo are not starting, Taiwo has been poor, Thomson better, but both infuriate me by taking the momentum out of so many attacks with a needless second or third touch followed by a sideways or back pass, we have missed drive and pace in midfield which these guys have not given us. Just delighted to see what appears to be a more aggressive and expansive formation, it might work, it might not but right now I'm looking on this as a positive.

Gives them something to think about as well. Always playing with 2 or 3 defensive midfielders is just inviting the opposition onto us safe in the knowledge we'd have no chance of catching them on the break.

The lack of composure some of our players have!

Well we are used to slowing things down so that we can pass the ball to each other. These players will need a few games to learn how to pass and move at the same time....

Think when we have had the ball there has been a noticeable desire to get it forward a bit quicker, Robertson has driven forward a couple of times. Just lacks a bit composure at the moment. We are pressing well high up the park as well.

I think he has been holding the ball up well and has brought others into the game quite well when he has had a bit of service, don't understand why he is being criticised for this game. The lack of quality on the width isn't helping him at all.

HIBERNIAN-0762

No width, nervous central defenders, midfield nowhere to be seen and worst of all 2 half backs that continually punt the ball up the park to nobody, it's quite clear we need a clear out soon.

Would be very short sighted of us if that happened. We didn't get rid of Claros or Robertson after a few months of poor performances. We stuck with them until they began to show what they could do and they both improved the team.

I don't think any of us expected to dominate possession after 2 weeks of training.

So it's about continuing to pressure St Mirren over the park (which we've done with more intensity today) and take our chance when it arises.

Wouldn't expect Cairney to last past 60 mins, so hopefully Caldwell or Zoubir coming on for him. Thomson for Stevenson, with Craig wide would also help IMO.

I'd have him at left back just now before McGivern. I think McGivern played his best games for us at left centre half and would have him there before Hanlon.

Is not playing with a defensive midfielder possibly restricting Craig and Robertson getting forward as often as they'd like? There's been quite a change in terms of personnel and positions, so will take some time for the players to get used to their new roles.

It's not going to change overnight, Butcher can't do anything about the lack of place and forward options until January's transfer window so we're not going to look drastically different for a while.

There's not going to be a lot TB can do to change the way we play until we get some creativity back in the team. The main change we have made is we are pressing the ball further up the park, and playing the ball over their defenders to make them turn. In fact we are pressing the ball all over the park.

We have very little quality up front or wide, and with the ball being played into the channels, its all about trying to win possession further up the park and hope something comes from winning the ball in their final third.

So far its not working, but we are putting a shift in.
