as someone mentioned on another thread, it seems that there's been an awful lot of threads about oor deek basically focusing on the fact that his career hasn't been what it could have been. how about a thread that isn't about whether he could do a job for us or not, whether he could have been playing for barca by now, etc, and just appreciating what he gave us:

over a hundred goals, the majority of them of a quality that we will seldom see again. he was an integral part of a team that made being a hibs fan a special pleasure. correct me if i'm wrong, but i think this was the first glance we saw of what a talent he was:

probably the best goal i've ever seen at ER. (i wasn't at 6-2 )

These goals are exactly what we're missing and I hope Tel does the right thing and signs him up/great goals but that Riordan no longer exists and quicker Hibs fans accept this fact etc etc

Deek in my eyes anyway is and always will be a Hibernian Legend.

Regardless of what he did (alleged and mainly pretty petty) off the park I doubt i will see a better finisher at ER in my time.

I remember in his first spell, if we were losing/drawing a game at home we would batter teams the last 10 minutes, and the amount of times Deek popped up and scored was unbelievable. I remember goals late on in particular against Aberdeen and Inverness to win us a game, what a brilliant player.

Deeks. :not worth

My favourite Riordan goal was away to Aberdeen very early in the Mowbray days. We had made an ok start but the press were raving about Aberdeen.

Pretty even game then cross field ball, one touch by Derek then an absolutely beautiful left foot strike right into the bottom corner. It was a goal worthy of winning any game.

By a long way the most natural and gifted finisher at ER since the early 70s and on par with Gordon and O'Rourke.

Greatest striker of my generation, probably never see another proper Hibby score 100 goals for us.

I was at his comeback game, Hamilton away, he came on and scored a wonder goal.

Legend :not worth

The best game I ever saw Deek play was against Kilmarnock at ER.
Can't remember if he scored two or three that day but every time he got the ball he was launching it smack on target.
IIRC, the Killie goalie stopped Deek scoring a half dozen more that day.
Ahhh, golden days, golden memories.

Deek had a goal disallowed against Dundee (4-4 at ER, early TM days), that involved quite simply the best finish I have ever seen. I didn't think he was offside at the time, and if he wasn't, we were robbed of one of the greatest goals ever. It was that good. Even if it was off, he still had to volley it and, flip me, volley it he did. Amazing technique.

Was great player for us, I think the reason people keep going on about how he has faded is that it's so sad to see someone with his undoubted talent not still using it at the top level, or any level.

I remember his first game back at Easter road, the sheer anticipation everyone had when he came on was incredible, why? Because the laddie has a natural gift that you rarely get to see in person.

Folk make out like he was a failure second time around, but he pretty much matched stokes for goals if I recall right, and he wasn't playing as a striker.

Christ only knows when we will see that sort of talent again at Easter Rd!

Aside from his goalscoring he had a fair few assists as well.

Remember the pass for Killens goal in the 2nd of our routine 0-3s at Ibrox.

If i remember rightly Rangers had spent the whol week trying to unsettle him, Mowbray decided to bench him, we were 0-2 up and Riordan came on and played an absolutely outstanding defence splitting ball for Killen. Proved a point in the best possible way.

This.....

He was playing Left mid for lots of that season and still scored 15+ goals and made at the very least, half of Stokes goals with early and accurate through balls.......so effective.

Would have to go long way to see a better goal. The laddie had everything , pity he never had a manager who could temper his off field antics. A Hibernian great for sure.

Hibee legend. Not many teams have a striker who's managed to score over 100 goals for their boyhood heroes(in our lifetime!!). Love the guy. Let's remember him for his outrageous goals(especially against the yams) and not for anything else. He lived the dream, not many can say that. Imagine scoring the winner at Tynecastle and celebrating in front of us all/the Jambos!!! Fairytale stuff. If he achieves nothing else in the game then he has memories that we can only dream of GGTTH

The great thing about Riordan as you can see from the clips is the wonderful(probably perfect is the word)positions he got himself in.Yet you will still find plenty of numpties to say he didn't work hard enough.
