I was in the Gorgie suite for an Open Uni exam a couple of years ago and the whole place smelt like a toilet so the Bobby Walker suite looking like one is maybe some sort of theme they're trying to develop.
Seriously, the place absolutely stank of sewage, I could barely concentrate on my paper for the smell. I didn't dare go into the actual toilets while I was there but I can only presume they were handing out hazmat suits for safety as you went in.

Considering the current incumbent in the manager's position, it's quite obvious it's a theme they're trying to develop.
It's something to do with a new 'suite' that's been opened or something.
Loving the late 70's hardboard panelling. All that's missing is one of those electric fires with the big brass canopy.

Looks like t' committee room from t' Wheeltappers and Shunters club. They are all just waiting for Bernard Manning coming in to give them an update on workplace diversity. Or mibbees its some kind of masonic inquisition. The body language of the boy with the white top tells me he did it and he's wondering where that secret masonic torture tool just behind his right shoulder is going to be inserted.

IIRC, they have a habit of turning it off in their function rooms to save money and using a couple of calor gas units instead.

There was an outbreak of food-poisoning a few years ago due to a defective boiler (not John Borthwick's bint) and the suite was closed for emergency repairs as there was no hot water, for the catering staff or punters using the bogs.

That's the one.
And was it not like that for weeks because they hadn't bothered to repair it, presumably even though they knew they had booked functions coming up?

It was subsequently closed for a weekends hospitality against St Mirren until the part was fixed (they were awaiting it arriving from Lithuania, if memory serves).

When did they start calling it The Bobby Walker Suite?
Bobby Walker was an outstanding player for Hearts in the early part of the 20th century.
It's a shame that they should link his name with a tawdry lounge bar.

It reaks of "You cannae sit there, that's auld Jimmy's seat. He'll be in for the bingo in 15 minutes."
It is very like the decor in the nearby Merchiston Hearts club, and must have been decorated about the same time. I'm guessing circa 1968.
