Surely the rumours can't be true. Maybe the powers that be are making a deliberate case for Scots to vote for independence,

They seem to give these honours to everyone else so dont see a problem.

Why would this be a reason for Scots to vote for Independence?

If you see no problem then so be it.

Beckham however has performed exclusively on the English stage apart from sojourns into continental and American football. A knighthood is a British honour.

I know it's probably a joke but lets keep politics out of this.

Regarding Beckham - while a completely over rated footballer - he has done a lot for the game in different countries and mostly been a positive role model.

What I don't get is that Bradley Wiggins gets a knighthood - and Andy Murray who wins Wimbledon, the US Open and Gold at Olympics doesn't get one?

Would you feel the same if it was Ryan Giggs getting a knighthood?!

You get asked, on the sly, if you'd accept one if offered.I reckon Murray has told them he'd love one...at the end of his career, or he's told them to bolt.

I like David Beckham.

Good footballer, his desire to play international football was good to see in an age when many can't be bothered and he does a lot of good work for charity.

Didn't he get an OBE for that stuff?

Plenty people have had an OBE then went on to be knighted.

Personally i couldn't care less and i think the honours system is well outdated. I just don't get a lot of the hate towards Beckham that seems to be out there.

Me too.Alex Ferguson also.If Beckham hadn't married Posh Spice I reckon he'd never have left United, to the extent he'd still be there right now doing coaching.

Hugely underrated player imo, who didn't need to run past players to beat them, he'd just ping a pass 1st time to the correct player...his ball to Dwight yorke when the pumped Arsenal is a thing of absolute footballling beauty...people masterbated over Rooney to RVP last year against Villa...Beckhams ball was much better.

I know a few folk who have met him in pubs in London over the past year or so and say he's brand new, don't ask to take his photo and no problem, he'll get the beers in.

If he is knighted it won't be solely for his ability on a football pitch.

What makes a good ball to you then?I thought both were pretty fanatastic

That's a great list, strange how many folk tend to dismiss Beckham's abilities isn't it.

I don't mind him, he's harmless enough, but it would be flippant to say that Real or Milan had him for his footballing abilities, he is a good player but there were probably better about, those teams it was a pure marketing ploy

having said that for one season at Real when he played in the middle i think it was the best patch in his career

he seems like a genuinely decent kinda guy to me, good on him, he's made a mint out of it all

amazingly good at what he did, but mediocre at almost everything else,

He cannot kick with his left foot, he cannot head a ball, he cannot tackle and he doesn't score many goals. Apart from that he's all right.

David Beckham is one of life's good guys.

I don't really care if he gets knighted or not but he's done a lot of good with his wealth and fame over the past 15 years or so.

Doubt she's too bothered since it more than likely got her a couple of million and the publicity she wanted, she was as bad as him for sleeping with a married man

obviously can't disagree with that, if he has any decency he will refuse any knighthood and ask if his PR firm can get it instead, all this MBE p@sh does my head in...no surprise a few of them get rescinded years down the line

Beckham is ok .. seems like a decent enough bloke and has done a lot in the game on the pitch and tried his best to promote it off the pitch too. As for him getting a knighthood.

Knighthoods, lordships, ladyships, princes, princesses, king and queens and any other titles of that ilk belong in history books, fairy tales and Disney movies.

Its the 21st century FFS.
